It just seems to go over everyone’s head that the Prowler was made primarily for Chrysler to gain knowledge and experience in producing basically an all aluminum car. Many of those involved were lost to Ford in the crash and went on to develop the aluminum F-150. Also, it gets overlooked that the Prowler basically is an Indy car design and weighed in at roughly 2,800lbs. At the time of production, 250HP in a 2,800lb car was a pretty damn good power to weight ratio.
@corionh47753 жыл бұрын
I always felt the same way about the power/weight ratio with these Prowlers when they were new, and back in the late-90's even Vettes only made about 90 more horsepower than this... But most auto publications called these "underpowered" which was weird to me. I've never driven a Prowler but I did lease an '01 Chrysler 300M brand new right out of college with this same drivetrain in about a 500lb heavier car, and I remember it feeling pretty quick for its time.

Had a long chat with the owner of the company, replica as meticulously made. My example was one of the best, the show car Fiero made themselves. Only 6 were ever completed and registered for the road. The engine was the trusty Ford V6, as was the rest of the running gear. I had a ball for a few years until we moved. I wish more manufacturers did that. That seems a heck of a lot easier than re-gearing a transmission to change the acceleration or top end fuel economy of your car. A guy in his garage, or a mechanic with a half-hour, could totally change the character of your car with an easily replaceable and relatively cheap set of sprockets and chains. They're probably less durable than a straight up live rear axle and certainly a limited slip differential but would you rather replace a chain/sprocket set that could act as the circuit breaker, first point of failure or a whole rear diff if that's the point of breakage?

Came across this when looking to see what folks have done this many years later to Prowlers. Those reduction gears were popular back in 2004 or so with the Intrepid crowd because someone found that the stock Prowler transfer gears fit and that they were the same or similar to 300M Special ones. So then folks put those or the Prowler Pro (brand at the time) gears on their 1st gen LH cars. It was a wild time.

A 2001 Chrysler Prowler first car in high school when they were new, I thought it was the coolest thing ever but kept having issues with the amplifier in the back shorting every time it rained and got caught out in it. Fun little car, wouldnt mind another one day.

Finally, a Prowler that goes like it looks. First one I've seen. Thanks Hoovie that's a fun car.

I have a 99 300M. The 3.5 HO is a great motor. The torque down low feels like a V8. I lowered my drive ratio by swapping the transaxle chain kit to one from a 2.7L Concord. Very spirited now.

My friend’s father bought some of the last prowlers ever produced. He has a collection of over thirty all different colors & all with under 100 miles. He even has one set up for pro street. I believe he still runs the prowler owners association too if my memory is correct.

The more of these I watch, the more obvious "The Wizard" is the star of the series. Amazing how he has learned to work on so many exotics in the middle of Kansas.

the response time of that "auto-stick" is comical.

Moving the auto-stick is more of a suggestion than actual control input. Kinda reminds me of the shift speed in my '94 Mercury Cougar XR7.

Dude tell me about it. And downshifting is such a bitch, it catches so hard and lurches the car. So I've learned to give it some gas while downshifting and also braking when coming to a stop. It gives the dope downshifting sound without getting yanked back.
