Hi Andy, great videos - can I ask what specs is your "big ebike" ? battery voltage, Ah, hub or mid drive motor (rated wattage), wheel size, frame size - thank you, it will be appreciated
@HighVoltageKits5 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy. I'm pretty sure regen is possible with some mid drives as long as the chain is tensioned with horizontal dropouts and the clutch can reverse. Any other kind of tensioner like a derailleur wont work though. It would be a single speed bike as well. I'm guessing most people use hub motors for regen. Cool vid, enjoyed the problem solving you did.

Thanks, I’ve been watching some of your videos too, great stuff! Yeah I think you are right, regen would work if there wasn’t a freewheel, I’d love to convert this bike to have a pitbike style rear drivetrain, that would certainly make it stronger and solve a lot of problems for this high power stuff!

Hey Andy, i have a question, maybe you can answer, ive been building e bikes for about 2 years now, and im in the process of building m y first stealth bomber( clone) My question is how can a n ebike be 5000 watts if the battery only puts out 2800 watts?...(72 volts 40 amh)
@andykirby4 жыл бұрын
It’s the common mistake people make confusing watt hours with power output. Your battery is 2880Wh which is its energy rating not its power rating. To find it’s power rating you will need to know a little more about the battery construction (ie. 20S13P maybe) then you would need to know the type of cells used and the safe continuous max discharge per cell in Amps, then multiply the number of cells by the Amps and you’ll get the maximum amount of Amps the whole battery can in theory deliver, multiply that by the pack voltage (72v nominal) and that will be your max power in watts. Note though other things come in to play like pack construction and type of BMS used which can affect the max power. It gives you an idea but Whoever made the pack would be the best person to ask what the max power is!😁

@@andykirby i havent bought the new battery yet, thats why i thought id pick your brain b4 i did!..lol. im 53 yrs old but i cant help it, i like building bikes that are fast, thats what keeps my interest in it, now one more question, so far ive been building my own packs out of the lipo 6s packs with a 50 discharge rate, should i do that with this steslth bomber im building or is there another alternative that will give me as much power, that you can refer me too!! And i appreciate your response, i know you must be a busy guy so Thank you!!
@andykirby4 жыл бұрын
Haha your hooked on fast ebikes now! I know the LiPo packs you mean, these are what most DIY ebikers start with (me included) because it’s easy to join packs up to get the voltage you want. They are also incredibly powerful, more so than any other batteries, which is why they are used for racing. LiPos don’t tend to have as long a lifespan as Lithium Ion cells though. remember that you still need a BMS to keep the Lipos in check and to prevent you from draining them too far, this kills them pretty quick. A BMS or balance charger is also essential especially if you want to charge the whole pack in one go... trust me it gets annoying disconnecting all the individual packs each time you want to charge.
