Nothing like the amount of recalls Ford has had in the past 4 years. #1 most recalled vehicle is the F150. I've had 7 gmc/chevys in my business, never had any lifter issues on any of them. That's something the Ford guys made up to make gm look bad. Ford is also NOT the best selling truck in America when you combing GMC and Chevy ( as General motors) , very close to double what Ford sells.

2wd first gen Cummins, light weight compared to anything newer. Swap in an nv5600 or a zf6 with 3.07 rear end gears from the nonintercooled automatic. I've heard it claimed if you can turn them, you'll back out before you find top end. Ramcharger rear crossmember and tank in back, room for a couple custom fabbed tanks outboard of the frame. Use obs Ford switches and valving to change tanks on the fly. And have a working gauge for each tank. Downside: frame a little stiffer than a dry noodle, aerodynamics of a refrigerator. The second generation weighs more, but I'm not a fan of the fuel mileage with the p pump. Maybe a 24 valve. Still use the Ford switchgear to switch between tanks, and have to get the rear crossmember and tank fabbed, the ramcharger parts won't fit. Anything new is making too much power for fuel mileage.

If you're going to do it in a diesel "truck", the best candidate would be something like a Touareg or Cayenne with a 3.0TDI. Not really a true truck, but they have 26 gallon tanks from the factory, and get about 29mpg when you're sitting at about 85mph.

I always thought a huge tank in the back of an SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee would be hard to beat. It'd take the weight, and I know they'll cruise comfortably at 130-140mph with power to spare (maybe or maybe not from experience driving across remote Arizona desert..). Yeah, the TrackHawk has even more power, but the 6.4L is notably more fuel efficient and plenty fast as is. On top of all of that, those SRT seats are incredibly comfortable. There are other fast SUVs out there, but I'd trust a Hemi to do the job without issue or notable wear.. the German makes? I'm not so confident (and I say this as a half-German).

No. It's a fuel cell. It's a non DOT approved fuel cell, but we'll ignore that. It's for recreational use, not commercial. He is not bound to commercial laws. He is not selling or distributing. Tractor trailers typically have fuel tanks upwards of 400 gallons. You can drive a tractor trailer without a CDL if there's no money exchanged for driving it. His truck is under 10k GVWR. This is true at the federal level, but Pennsylvania (iirc) forbids recreational driving of GVWR > 26k without a recreational class B. That's not to say some state in between doesn't have a state regulation, but it's very unlikely it applies to recreational use. 177.816 states under 1,000 gallons capacity does not require hazmat training. He's driving a sub 10k gvwr passenger pickup. It's a fuel cell. A transportation officer could give him a hard time for the fuel tank itself as it hasn't been DOT certified. That's the only law I can find he's in violation of, regarding his fuel tank.

I am in San Diego-- the west bound times should be better as you typically get better fuel economy heading eastbound (there's nearly always a head wind going west bound in the desert southwest). I want to do the coast to coast with my Silverado. What was his average speed for the CtoC?

transcontinental US record. the world record would have to factor in the shortest times for other continents. those are some impressive times. I can't imagine driving that long without a break. such a chilled dude is not what one expects of an outlaw racer.

I did a modified cannonball run before ever knowing what it was. Lockdowns happened in 2020 and i took my 99 turbo diesel and ran that thing flat out the whole way from dc to los angeles. I found out afterwards that people did it for fun 😂

Alright, for ease of information: Current overall record: 25 hours 39 minutes, set by Arne Toman and Doug Tabbutt in their modified Audi S6 during Covid. The Covid part in important, because there may never be another opportunity to have roads that clear again. Current solo record, diesel record, and non-Covid record: 27 hours 16 minutes, set by Chris Stowell in his modified BMW 535D Current solar powered record: 13 days, 15 hours, 19 minutes, set by Cannonball Sun team in an experimental solar powered EV. Current motorcycle record: 32 hours 32 minutes, set by Ross Earnest on his modified Yamaha FJR1300. Current EV record: 42 hours 17 minutes, set by Ryan Levenson and Josh Allan in a Tesla Model S Long Range. Apparently it was a rental lol. Honorable mentions either bc I can’t verify or because it’s badass Current Coast-to-Coast-to-Coast (Redball to Portofino back to Redball) Record: 61 hours and 59 minutes by Nik Krueger, Wesley Vigh, and Christopher Michaels in a 2008 Saab 9-5 Aero Current truck record: 34:52, unverified info Current nonstop record: 33:45, unverified info Current semi-autonomous record: 43:18 at 98.4% autonomy, unverified info

I wonder if the truck has a tune. I have an F150 and it gets blown all over the place with the wind. I bet a tune for higher torque on 93 gas would wake it up a bit and help battle any of that high speed drag.
