Jay, the solution for tinting transparent canopies is simple : no airbrush, no brush, just put it on a stick and give it a fair dip in your lightly tinted medium of choice and leave it to dry in a dustless environment. That's often what cosplayers use for lenses, visors and glasses.

Jay your painting level has increased tremendously over the last year or so, it's very clear to see, well done man. You can avoid clarity issues on translucent parts by dyeing them instead of painting them. Plastic parts dye super easy with synthetic fabric dye.

Jay If you first step your oils for your ships before painting the painting goes much faster. Then when a session is done put the stepped paint in the freezer, it will stay fresh for weeks. Keep your medium in the freezer or it will harden after opening. Oh, a uv light in a box will "dry" the painted ships in less than an hour rather than one or two days.

For painting cockpits and such, maybe work in sections? Mask off some of it- paint a small bit and wait for it to dry. Mask the painted section and unmask another section. Rinse/repeat until you are out of sections. SUPER TEDIOUS but you'll get a glorious result. Unless the glass just doesn't have sections. Then you are just kinda stuck

Yo EOB. Thanks for the video. In automotive painting. I would lay down a "wet bed" of clear base coat so when paints especially metalics land on the surface it does not land on a dry area and can flow more instead of clumping. not sure if this will help for your minis. but let us know if you try it. As far as the tinting goes I’ve seen one methods where you can buy transparent barrier film comes in many colors it has a tack on one side and is transparent enough to show the details underneath ones the pieces are cut and attached throw a little gloss finishing spray on top

I know it's not a hugely popular game, and you did say you'd love to try it; but I really super duper recommend Adeptus Titanicus, I am pretty confident in my position that it's the best game system GW produces (and IMO some of the coolest models too), it's a really really well crafted rules system, everything feels like it has a really good amount of depth to make it feel significant, but nothing feels overly or unecessarily complicated. Both players draw from almost exactly the same fairly small selection of units - only about a dozen distinct units - so it's very well balanced (theres better balance out there I'm sure, even games with more and varied units, but compared to most of GW's titles it's great) and that allows for all the the depth to feel really comfortable, and all of the interactions make sense, feel right and just flow really well. Something that I think is really good, and lots of games don't do well with (which isn't necessarily their fault, it's kinda necessarily weird having interactions between many squishy small individuals/units and big tough units) but the titans do feel like hugely powerful titans, that take lots to go down, but they aren't just bullet sponges, the weapons also definitely feel like hugely powerful titan sized weapons. It also totally feels like you're in command of titans with the terminals, it's such a cool (and pretty efficient) way to have rules and stats.

Maybe painting the inside of the cockpit glass on Imperial Drop Ship would be better than painting the outside. This could give it a smoother, shinier finish.

Have you considered LEDs and other electronics in your minis Jay? I think the little extra that your after for that Sith vehichle would've been to pop some LEDs in the cockpit to give more visability to the pilots; best yet, you would've been able to rock regular white ones too as the tinted windowshield would make it look red from the outside already :3c

Awesome paintjob! For Hinematsu, the puppet, the highlights on the robe seem off. Not to be cruel, but it looks like spaghetti or ropes. Checking actual silky fabrics will show you the highlights have to be connected, similar to hair. it is a cone shape, basically. Also the turquoise on her upper left leg should be brighter, as it is facing upwards, even in recesses. Most people omit highlighting recesses on fabrics, and that's what might throw you off on this one, because there are so many. Bring back the shine! edit: Same goes for Piggy Muscle. Keep it up!

Some awesome paint jobs here, Jay! The only thing that I can't get away from, is when you refer to black, the result is more grey. I mean, your Templars army is stunning, but they are more 'Grey Templars'. And the stormtroopers on the gunship - the underlying bodysuit on a stormtrooper should be black, but yours is more grey, even almost white in a couple of areas. The same with the 'mouthpieces' on the helmets, and the two little studs on either side - should be black, yours are white... Maybe that's my inner Star Wars nerd having a rant. Seriously though, great work here! 😁

I love to see channels covering games outside GW. I currently play Middle Earth from GW (most solid ruleset from gw IMO) and Carnevale. I have the Archon KT ready to paint and I'm eager to try KT, but the rules seem too much. I'd love to try Bushido and Rumbleslam, absolutely amazing and unique miniatures.

I intentionally still dry brush...dry, because it makes a very dusty effect, and I typically dry brush rocks.

I really don't get artis opus's drybrush technique. I've tried using lightly damp brushes and whenever I drybrush the paint comes out milky and doesn't stick to the raised edges. I don't use expensive brushes, I just use makeup brushes, so I don't know if that's it...but I just don't get it. the drybrushed minis i've done with the traditional DRY drybrush look so much better.

I think what might be throwing you off about the Pig Dude Swordsman model is the fact that his muscles look unrealistic. You painted him great, so it might be the model sculpt. Might be a case of "Uncanny Valley"

I believe that the major issue with your night kin is that their muscles really look like blue islands. I know that Emil over on Squidmar Miniatures released a master class video on KZbin last week or the week before covering how to paint one of his most recent busts. You're going too dark in between the muscles, making them look like little blue islands in a sea of black. On tinting the cockpit canopy, I would suggest that you use silly puddy to mask off the panels that you are currently not tinting. Yes it is going to take a little longer to do. However the end result should be closer to what you are desiring.

I consider myself quite a good english speaker. But since I only learned it growing up and only use it occasionally I sometimes miss certain phrases. Especially ones that only come up rarely in everyday life. Also a couple of years ago I gotten into wrestling. So whenever someone says that in this example the black templars need a little TLC I can't help myself imagining the Duddleys putting the templars on a table and powerbombing Jay through it. Or Jeff Hardy doing a swanton bomb onto a yet unpainted Rhino from a ladder. And then at the end Edge comes out and and highlights all the edges of the little guys by hitting them repeatedly with a chair. Sooo, if you ever want to do THAT kind of TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) at least let us know beforehand.

For Star wars miniatures when you're searching for vehicles when it comes to the empire and Republic vehicle names are pretty much the same only difference you can make for searching is to add empire or clone wars that way they don't get mixed up in the search
