I Brought A BAMBOO POLE Offshore To Catch These HUGE Fish!!

Can this bamboo pole be just as effective as a Rod & Reel? In this video I decided to bring the cane pole out yet again to try and rip some BIG Sheepshead out of this natural gas rig while they are still spawning. As you'll see in the video the sheepshead were literally right in front of me and i could even pick out which fish i wanted to catch!

BROTHER! this is awesome! I recently went to Hawaii and brought my grandfather's bamboo big game pole with me, I caught an 80 pound yellow fin tuna, and a 350 pound marlin on his old gear,(new line of course.) One of my best memories of all time. My next adventure is to catch a grand slam on a Pocket Fisherman, maybe modified, but basically stock.

I like the cane pole. If the pole is 12 feet, for every pound of weight at the end of the pole, you are lifting a 12 pound of weight not considering the fish pulling in the water trying to stay in. That's a lot of weight to pull a fish out of the water. It would be nice if there's a pole like that is automatically collapse to shorten the leverage as soon as you hook one. Nice fishing spot. No challenge at all to catch a fish. Just bring the right bait.👍 I once experienced that, fishing trout in Nevada. As soon you drop your hook in the water, you are hooking a fish already. I plan on catching some 3tails this year as well on it, I think that would be really cool to do. And I just drilled a whole near the end with a 2 or 3mm drill bit and tied the line through it. You could also tie a snell knot on the end too

I was on that exact rig two weeks ago and limited out in less than an hour….all of them were monsters. I was using fiddler crabs, and the boat beside me was using hermit crab shells broken up into tiny pieces….and he was killing it too.

This is a homemade pole I cut down and dried myself from a stock of bamboo. I’ve got different sizes and thicknesses for what species I plan on catching with them. Do you catch snook on them?

That looks like a calcutta pole except for the joints being a little too far apart. They stopped importing calcutta years ago. The calcutta poles were much stouter than the standard cane that are grown in Alabama. You ought to find some Mustad sheepshead hooks. I think the number for them is 3467.

It's not a Calcutta. I cut the poles that I have down from a friends house on the island. They are surprisingly very strong though. I guess the true test will be when I hook a 20lb triple tail on one. this year hopefully.
