Thanks, Joe! 😎 your stuff was the inspiration for us building ours. Continuing to work through all the details and suss out what works for us and make mods as we go. Stay cool 🥶❄️

Made one 2 years ago nearly the same ! Great video. I need to plumb my pump and filter more cleanly and definitely insulate. Mine is 36 deg right now and usually stays about 40 in the super hot months in the garage. If I had to dump ice i would never do it. Gotta be convenient to just head out and do it.

looks good, but i you filter should be in line before the chillers

While I thought so, the more research I did, the more I found that it doesn't matter as much as you'd think especially if you use a strainer before the pump inside the tub. Joe has more info here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHavlGmug9-Zgq8

Your filter is almost worthless. It should be on the inlet not the outlet. Other then keeping the water clean the filter is supposed to protect your pump and chiller from hairs and or debris. Hair will burn that pump up quick.

Does it matter the chiller is only for 79 gallons when the tub is about 100? Does it make it run harder/longer opening the opportunity for burning it out?
@TeamFITBODYАй бұрын
I keep mine at around 45-50º and have had it "on" 24/7. I have not noticed a significant issue with it running constantly or having issues keeping up. That said, I'm not searching for sup 39º temps. I would say the unit actually only runs about 10-15% of the time in "chill" mode. Maybe slightly higher when the temps in the barn were in the 80º+ range.

I probably only have 80-85 gallons of water in my 100 Gallon tank. Otherwise it would overflow every time I get in.
@TeamFITBODY17 күн бұрын
@@russnewberry9801 Good point. Depending on your size and how deep you want the water on your body to be, you'll not be filling it all the way. Thanks for chiming in and pointing that out!

Why did you put the filter after the pump ? Wouldn't it be better to have it before the pump and chiller ?

How does that chiller get the water down to sub 50 degree temps..? It's just an aquarium filter rated for 68-78 degrees. Cold plunge chillers that can reach lower temps are much more expensive.
@TeamFITBODY17 күн бұрын
Sorry for the delay in response Stewart. As far as the chiller getting down to sub 50 degrees...the one I purchased was rated for 68º+ but has controls that go down to 42º. It chills down well and If I had to guess, it's a matter of load and running time. I notice mine runs ~2-4 hrs a day. If you were running an aquarium, I would guess it would run less frequently. These chillers are designed with compressors capable of cooling water more effectively than their stated range to ensure reliability. This means they can reach lower temperatures but were not specifically designed for it. Mine has been running for months without issue and I know of several other users who are at the 1+ yr mark with theirs.

@@TeamFITBODYthanks for answering. I just use ice blocks that I make at home, but I was just looking at the aquarium chillers, but I was hesitant because they advertise that the lowest temp that they get to is around 65 degrees
@TeamFITBODY9 күн бұрын
@@codacNvegas Yeah, that was a hurdle for me to understand as well. Ice blocks work too. It's just the added work and friction it caused me vs just being able to jump right in. Do what works for you. Making ice blocks certainly is cheaper and less maintenance. ;)

What is the white stuff around the tank?
@TeamFITBODYАй бұрын
It's an insulation wrap used in barns. One side is foil and it's got a 'bubble wrap' look to it. I have since replaced it when I put the siding on and used spray foam insulation. Working like a champ now. Probably time to do an updated video. I will be doing an overview of DIY Cold Plunge's new design that I'm building around a 150 gallon tub soon! Stay tuned for that! You can check it out here: diycoldplunge.com/?ref=RICKLOHRE
@TeamFITBODY17 күн бұрын
That was a temporary insulation fix. It was the foil bubble wrap used to sheath underneath barn siding that I had left over. It worked but eventually I enclosed the frame and used spray foam insulation which not only helped with keeping it cold, but also helped with condensation in warmer temperatures.

$500? WTF?!?! But one on Amazon for $20 this Black Friday
@TeamFITBODY17 күн бұрын
Absolutely understand those are available. The difference is, the added space and flexibility that a stock tank offers...especially for taller or bigger humans :) Add onto that, a stock tank with filtration and insulation will keep you from having to change the water as frequently and keep you from having to add as much ice to keep it cold. Don't get me wrong, an inflatable for $35 or something like that is exactly how I started and can work. It's just how much more convenient and permanent of a setup do you want. Thanks for commenting and hope you found some use in my channel. :D
