@@SamHolland you're welcome! I am waiting for black friday/cyber monday to buy the DJI Ronin SC3 Pro which also has the manual focus control thingy, do you have any input about this ? have you used it? I have the Canon R5C and it seems to be the only gimbal that's compatible for video mode.

Not gonna lie. The term “cinema camera” is losing its value. Production camera makes more sense because the title stated exactly what it’s built for. Anything can make it to the cinema. But not everything can handle a full production.

I like how you trully love your s5. I mean based on your other videos you can buy any camera you want. But you just find yourself comfortable using that s5 over anything else. That is trully rare today. Because most youtubers have most expensive cameras just because they are most expensive.

Great video - I've got my Sony A74 and Sony A73 both rigged up using mostly the same components as you - haven't made the jump to cinema lenses and manual follow focus or wireless transmission yet though. I use a comfy wooden camera grip mounted to the front 15mm rods for use handheld. A Kessler Crane Kwik Stand is also helpful mounted underneath the small rig baseplate - it helps the rig stand level when put down, adds some weight for stability (although the rig is quite heavy already!) and also has an Arca Swiss plate build into it for quick mounting - but you need the largest size one for balance if you're using handle-mounted monitors or long lenses.

Would you recommend this setup over a gimbal? - New filmmaker shooting weddings and short films. I currently have the s5
@SamHolland Жыл бұрын
Hey… great camera choice 👌🏻😉🎥 It all really depends on the style of video you want to make. Handheld is great for action type things where you want full control and fast movements but gimbal is great for smoother shots. It’s just harder to use and more hassle to set up. Check this out - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4CrYpaNhb-GsKM

Cable Clamp x Monitor Problem Solution: For my S5 rig i use the "SMALLRIG HDMI & USB Type C Cable Clamp for FUJIFILM X-T4 Cages - BSC2809" Its ment for the Fuji X-T4 but also works for the S5 cage from Smallrig, you have to fold your HDMI rubber flap out of the way tho.

Thanks Sam! I opted for the Panasonic S prime lenses (with a Smallrig focus gear that fits them snugly) instead of the manual focus budget cinema lenses. Those are super versatile since they are pretty much all the same size and weight, and once you set them to linear focus throw, you can customise it to something like 180 or 270 degrees. I rarely need to open up the aperture, since I find the change of depth of field mid-shot distracting (except in very rare and specific circumstances where that is how you want to shoot), and instead prefer to use a Variable ND to adjust exposure when I move from indoors to outdoors. Plus the Panasonic S primes give you a very consistent look, and quite usable autofocus. Have you given them a spin yet? Love the rest of the rig, although I would personally have swapped the Ninja with the BM Video Assist 12G HDR since I prefer to grade in Resolve :)
@impact20twenty Жыл бұрын
With the HDMI Clamp, why don't you just replace the thumbscrew bolt with a smaller headed hex screw. Once the the rig's all built up it's unlikely you'd need to take that cable out again until you de-rig it. Just a thought. 🙂

Hey Sam! I noticed in 3:34 that when you try to adjust the focus, the lens has a little movement from the base because of the focus motor. I believe this affect negatively when you record.

“Cinema” handheld rig or gimbal for most work ? I suppose if you don’t need to walk, handheld is comfier, but as soon as you have a moving shot don’t you need a gimbal? Or would you strip down the cinema rig partially and put it on a gimbal ?

The beauty of this is you can detach the rails and place on a gimbal but it all really depends on the type of movement or shot you need 👌🏻🎥🤩

The Lumix S5 costs $700 more than the a BMPCC 4K as a base model. You can kit out a BMPCC 4K for less and have internal raw recording or external raw recording on the very cheap Samsung T5 or T7 drives for less than it will cost to get RAW on the S5.

Why can’t it be? 10 bit colour, full frame or APS-c, high dynamic range. Video monitoring functions. The only limitation is long record times. plus, this is a mirrorless camera… however, DSLR cameras have been used to film movies along with an iPhone. Lady Gaga! 🙏🏻🎥

Well, Being in Hollywood as a Local 600 DP for over 20 years I have had producers and directors ask for all kinds of requests for "cinema" cameras.... Its whatever will do the job or the budget can afford to rent. As far as just talking cinema was the "aspect" of the camera "format" and cinema lenses being "T stops" and not "F stops" which is a theoretical stop of light and aT stop is an exact scientific rate of light which will match to the corresponding T stops of other lenses. Big difference in matching stops to other lenses as well as prices for cine lenses can cost 100k's over still lenses which are cheap and not as resolving. But usually its whatever the producer wants to see so he can show off to his lousy girlfriend and wannabes....
