You can modify your BIOS to add resizable BAR support to old motherboards like this. It works on RX 400/500 series using Nimez drivers. I got a 10+% improvement in DX12 and reduces the stutters alot.

I remember doing this with a HD6000 series card, yet I just thought it wasn't doing anything that Windows 10 already does with extra allocated ram set aside to the GPU anyway. But that was a year ago. I'd definitely give it another try if I ever get ahold of another older AMD card.

Just built a little beast for under $100 USB too. Bought a case with a motherboard and i5 6500 at a thrift shop for $10! Inspired me to build something, so I started looking through thrift shops and FB market place. Picked up a psu at a Goodwill for $20, then found $20 on the sidewalk outside, so free? Got an ssd for $10 off Amazon for Black Friday and had a 1tb hhd I was given with a gifted PC. Then picked up a gtx 970 for $40 from Facebook and 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 for $20 off Craigslist. All that totalled to $100, but since the psu was basically free, I spent another $15 on some rgb fans. Looks great now! Super happy with it

I was expecting a potato for a graphics card, but you came through with an awesome deal for ANY RX480. Strangely enough, I had upgraded from an RX480 to a 1080ti. The pro-tip on the RX480 is to run an RX580 Bios... It will usually pick up the performance impressively (I was able to gain 200 MHz on my GPU).

My first gaming PC actually had an i7-2600. It was a Dell Optiplex 990MT that I picked up for around $200 new and which I paired with a 1050ti. It ran 1080p low pretty good with 60+ fps for years. Crazy to see this CPU still performing well in 2022!

I thought the OptiPlex 390 maximum cpu official support was i5 2400, but 2500 works as well. Never tried an i7 though. Had to short 3 pins together on front io, and run a wire from Cpu fan green wire all the way to pin 3 on front fan connector and from there I ran another wire to pin 3 on back fan connector to get rid of those messages. Basically all 3 tachometric signal pins were connected to each other. The most annoying obscure problem ever.

This is what PC flippin is all about. Building something useful of older hardware comming of "trash" deals. That RX 480 8GB for 60 AUD... That is a steal m8 - congratulations! For those who don't know, the RX 480 is practically the same as the later RX 580, where the only improvement was the clockspeed increase (and the higher power target/limit set, so it could maintain that speed stable = 10% better performance). Good thing about udervolting the RX 480 reference, is that it now can sustain a stable 1266 MHz factory speed, compared to the throttlling happening at stock settings, due to hitting the power limit. Just doing that, you get 3-5% better performance.

BeQuiet pure base 500 in white, z390 designare, 9900k, 32gb of 3200mhz lpx, 500w evga psu, and a weird pcie wifi adapter for $80. Replaced the psu with a seasonic 860 plat I've had for awhile, threw my old 980 ti hybrid in there and bought a 1tb crucial p3 off Amazon for $62 on black Friday. Someday when I sell the 500w psu and the wifi adapter, might end up costing less than $100!

Also, he didn't factor in his fuel costs in collecting the components, nor his labour costs - even at minimum wage, the amount of time put into this far exceeds the $100 spent on parts! Just something else to consider (e.g. you could work a job for the number of hours spent on refurbishment and use that money to increase the budget of your build instead ;)

My local university has a computer surplus store. I got a Dell Opti tower with a I-7 2600 Quadro 600 16gb of ram and a 500gb hard drive for $30, it was tested and guaranteed to work. I went in for the ram and it was 5 dollars cheaper just to buy the whole system. I am going to put GTX 1650 in it and make my brother in laws kid a Fortnite rig. The place is a gold mine they got whole racks full of different gen computers all tested.

Oh man, the aussie multi purpose spray is back! I wish I could source something close to that that didn't cost an arm and a leg (closest I could find was the WD40 Specialist, and that thing is expensive...).

Really love your channel! Im just curious to know how long PSUs typically last from your experience? Would you advise changing out PSUs that is still working after a certain number of years?

my personal experience is that they should last 10 years easily if you bought something decent, dont buy thermaltake and you will be fine

Good to see ya back down under mate! Great banger build! BTW, whats the music track you used for the b-roll? Ps.... You got me back into PC gaming 2 years ago and now I've been flipping some PCs for fun, cash and something to do in Welly, NZ. Keep up the good work.

I also built a PC where I got a Z68 Mainboard with a 2600k and giant Noctua Cooler for 50€. Slapped 16GB of DDR3-1600 and an 8GB RX 580 with an Accelero IV pre installed (90€ btw.) in there and it runs like a charm!

Noctua coolers are just such great value for money. They last for ages and with the right mounting brackets can be re used on new builds for cheap. I'm upgrading from an 8700k to a 13600k and will reuse my Noctua NH-D15s with a mounting bracket. But the best thing is, if you send Noctua proof of you having bought a cooler and proof of buying a new motherboard they will send you the mounting bracket for free!

Hey, that is almost my build. Only difference, I got a 3570K and a 1060 instead. Oh, and side panes can be easily made from sheets of plastic. Or even cardboard for the really desperate. For the fans there is always the option to run them on 7V
