I think it would be a good idea to have another item than stick and represent "non-supported air" so anywhere above the topmost block of each slice doesn't need to have that much sand supporting nothing.

Don’t give him (actual good) ideas The problem is precise powder-to-concrete-conversion since you can’t tnt water. Maybe flooding the entire perimeter and tp-ing the concrete from the furthest corner of the machine from the opposite wall of the direction strip from the bottom towards the machine? So that converted concrete doesn’t block conversion below or blocks other powder?(

I can think of 2 possibly easy speed optimizations, that would increase printing time by a lot: 1. empty slices getting skipped entirely, no need to print an entire slice of just air. 2. empty top rows getting skipped, basically if the rest above that row is just air, there is again no need to print it. both of those could possibly be done by parsing an empty shulker box as an early slice separator. There are probably other tiny speedup improvements, but this is the majority of the larger ones.

You'd need to have preprocessing for every slice to check if it's empty though. That might take just as long as just printing it. Though I guess empty dummies just take one comparator check, yea.

I’ve dreamt up a much simpler encoding idea: simply put it in books. write books with every possible 27*27*27 (with 16 colours and air) combination of blocks and then have players write a book to determine what’s printed. Then you just have to use a sorting machine to figure out exactly which book they wrote (this only works if it’s the same author so make sure every player on your server writes a set of books for the printer - sorting machines will only detect it if the books are 100% identical) and print it with a reserve of blocks. This way, you can store all the data in one inventory slot. Unfortunately, it requires each player involved to write millions upon millions of books - one for each possible print - and then store them all, but it’s a small sacrifice.

bro that's a bit more than millions, it's 17^(27^3) which is over 10^24218. That means the number of books you'd need, is a number 24219 digits long. (For reference the number of atoms in the universe is less than 82 digits long.)
@woahmamaawoogahonkahonka
@woahmamaawoogahonkahonka 5 ай бұрын
@@kurage_medusa technically it is millions upon millions, it’s just a lot of millions. Thanks for doing the math! That’s… quite a lot bigger than I expected. I’m doubtful my computer has the space for it all. Anyway, if you filled a minecraft world with chests, from worldborder to worldborder, top to bottom, you’d have 3.1104e+19 slots of space. Meaning, according to Wolfram Alpha, you’d need about 3.2 * 10^24198 minecraft worlds full of chests to store the books. Great!

would it not be beneficial to use music discs as storage in the shulkers to eliminate the need for item storage? You can use the discs to represent the different colors and unstackables to represent the gaps. As mentioned in the replies, you will also need one stackable in order to account for all 16 colors. keep up the good work! Voted you and cubic meter as a 6!
@orca7895
@orca7895 6 ай бұрын
There are 15 signal strengths a music disc can output (no including 0 because that's the lack of a disc) and this needs 17 values (16 colors, and air) so no it wouldn't really be better.

You can't compare lol. Even if a Redstoner is 50 leagues above others in a specific field, he could be incompetent in others, so for example look at consistently "good at all" Redstoners like Pwouik and Floppy.

@@iPlayGamesX Productivity is a more objective measure though. You give a good explanation of why I can't name a "best" redstoner, but that is not the point. @@caspermadlener4191 I think we don't have a definitively "best" redstoner, or anything even remotely close to that. You can't compare Sammyuri and Inspector Talon. There's no line to draw. To objectively decide a "best" redstoner, he would have to dominate in 3 main categories, in my opinion. Those are: - computational redstone (its far disconnected from the other categories, hence he'd have to be good at it to draw a comparison) - cannon tech (Its the peak of TMC complexity) - practical redstone (farms/storage, as they are applicable) While far from perfect, then we could have someone.

I think the simple speed improvement would be reducing the sand the machine puts above all of the concrete, as a lot of time gets used up to fill what turns into just empty space. This could be done by checking if the shulker boxes responsible for higher layers are all-sticks, and somehow skipping them if that's the case. Or, ideally, skipping the parts of the vertical strips that have no concrete above them (which means its all sand, but insteas of filtering horizontal lines, this would filter and alter vertical ones. But I think this one might not work given how the machine prints in horizontal line layers.

now imagine if the rom was in the spawn chunk and 2no2names telemetry could be used to tell the machine which blocks go to the player, that way when a print is complete the only thing you need to do to get a new build going is fly the piston wall backwards, recode the rom, and build new receivers, block conveyors/dispensers. it could be used to develop unimaginable amounts of perimeter with massive builds

It would be cool and beneficial (speed-wise) if you could somehow detect and just skip large air blocks; like the beginning of JKM's cone or the upper third of the cake. I assume most of it would be done in the filament processing unit, though you may need some way to "simulate" the machine "putting air" without actually doing a third of the process. And considering how your Assembly system works, it may be feasible. Though, I do apologise in advance if this causes you sleepless nights. Good luck.
@etheraelespeon1986
@etheraelespeon1986 6 ай бұрын
Id just do that as a preprocessing step before compiling to a minecraft structure. The logic would be pretty simple, the only thing youd have to worry about is strips stacking up incorrectly while the big flying machine is pushing slices. You could maybe account for the flying machine's delay in the code and know when sand blocks are necessary for strip preloading, but itd probably be simplest to just keep to a single strip while waiting on the flying machine. Thatd be a minor slowdown, but would only actually decrease performance in the case of like, a hollow cube that takes up the entire area of the print bed
