You don’t need a huge rocket to get to the sun if you’re clever, using a Jool gravity assist you can go to the far reaches of the solar system, way beyond Eeloo, and when you reach perihelion, you can burn retrograde and plunge into the depths below. It may take over 50 years, but it’s more efficient than manually deorbiting from Kerbin’s orbital distance.

4:43 Hey FYI, Kerbin's atmosphere stops at 70,000 meters and that's when you're considered "in space" and can actually form an orbit, as long as it's above 70,000 meters on both the AP and PE you're good to go :) 5:55 also they have reheating disabled due to issues currently, not sure exactly what said issues are but, it's turned off for now which sucks.

When I was in high school we had a program that was a space sim/aerospace class where part of our "space program" required pilots to fly "pre-built simulated shuttles" to the "space station" using what was basically KSP with a Thrustmaster joystick and a really nice (for 2012) gaming chair in a plywood box on some chains built to look like a ship, with a huge chain to lift it to simulate docking to the ship. (The ship being its own thing btw, all student built! ). All that fancy stuff aside I was lucky enough to be a pilot, so I was basically assinged to play with KSP all day! We had convinced our Aerospace teacher that it was "an advanced aerospace simulator." And we pitched that along with Universe Sandbox 2! Anyway, always nice to see KSP back.

17:55 as a fellow engineer I will tell you why it's leaning: A noodly noodle is still a noodly noodle, no matter where it thrusts, and if the noodle noodles, the center of mass is still off the thrust vector, and therefor only making the leaning more bendy. Thrusting the front therefor doesn't stiffen the noodle, it only stretches the noodle and makes it even less controllable. This is why engineers only thrust from the back, because they know that solid girth is superior to stretchy length. The real reason though, the one that explains everything: The balls are missing. It is simply a very inefficient design.

11:53 While your engines are pointing up, because the center of mass is to the side the engines will do nothing but cause the ship to spin. You must keep the center of mass in line with the thrust if you want to go straight. I would have expected an engineer to understand that.

Hi, 2nd one failed not just because it was wiggly af. The COG (gravity) was below the COP (pressure). Good rule of thumb for rockets- you need weight in the nose and lots of surface area (ie. Fins) towards the rear. Legit basics of rocket science. If the COG is below COP the rocket will want to fly backwards.. which is impossible because of the thrust.

Civil engineering is not rocket engineering as clearly demonstrated. RCE's progression leaves me questioning if civil engineers can even learn rocket engineering. The physics involved in a long chain of segments that can to any extent bend without being kept rigid does seem to elude our resident architect. That rocket was not a work of functionality but an obsession with a specific form.
