Spiff went through three basic business models: 1. Zoo with chickens only (making money off tickets and donations by people looking at animals) 2. Poultry farm open to visitors (making money off breeding and selling chickens, with some income from tickets and donations on top of it) 3. Private park (making money off tickets bought by people who just come to enjoy some time among the trees) Frankly, the chilling thing isn't the chickens stuck in the stasis in the trading centre - it's the overall state of the world (or at least the general area around the facility) that makes people come and pay $4 just to walk around among the trees for a while - and maybe read on endangered animals and overexploitation. I imagine the world outside the "zoo" grounds to be some industrial wasteland inhospitable to human life. Probably the effect of Spiff playing Sim City or something.

Many years ago the Children's Zoo at the San Diego Zoo had a small, table-sized exhibit that featured baby chicks. You could actually reach into the exhibit and touch the chicks. There were quite a few of them. I worked nearby and was a zoo member, so oftentimes at lunch I would go there and just stick my arm in. The chicks would come stand on my palm and peck at the hairs on my arm. It was fun for everyone involved so naturally the zoo put an end to it. Thanks for bringing back good memories, I guess.

Not sure how popular it would be from an algorithm perspective, but I'd be interested in seeing more planet zoo videos. There's heaps of creators who go into the design and building side of the game, not so much the mechanics of it. It's a surprisingly deep and optimisable game. Some examples of ways to optimise: - If you build the habitat using scenery in place of barriers (e.g. rocks or building parts, or water if the animal can't swim), you don't have to repair them, therefore you can skip hiring a maintenence worker until much later in the game - If you put the keeper hut right next to the habitat entrance, it reduces the time it takes to feed them by a lot. In bigger zoos, you can make little back-of-house areas that lead out to multiple habitats, and thus drastically reduce the number of keepers you need to hire. E.g. four habitats with a keeper hut where their corners meet. Reduces downtime even more if you put a staff room right there as well, and work zone it so they don't wander off - Even if guests don't stay long in the zoo, it can be worth getting food and drink shops. The guest AI is a bit weird (or at least it was when I was playing more), and they prioritise filling needs even over seeing animals - and they pretty much always arrive with at least one need in the yellow. So you can make some pretty insane amounts of money off them. Build them on a little plaza just off the entrance (with a staff room right behind so the workers don't need to go far) for best results

Honestly, this video reminded me of an exploit that used to be in Frontier Developments' Jurassic World Evolution 2 where you could make an incredibly profitable five-star park without releasing a single dinosaur. Before they patched it out, you used to be able to build multiple Innovation Centers without it penalizing your appeal ratings. Whenever you built multiples of an identical attraction building, JWE2 would divide that attraction's appeal rating between the multiple instances of said attraction. So if you had two aquariums, it would divide the normal +100 you'd get from one to +50 between the two. However, the game DID NOT do this for the Innovation Center attraction. Instead, it just gave the same +250 appeal to all Innovation Centers built regardless of how many there were. So if you built like five of them, instead of the game dividing the +250 between the five centers, you would get a total appeal rating of +1250. As such, all you had to do was keep building Innovation Centers, line them with restrooms, emergency bunkers, and shops, adjust the shops to maximize profits, and you could achieve a five-star rating very quickly even at the highest difficulty rating. Plus, to unlock the Innovation Center, all you had to do was make a single, cheap dinosaur in the hatchery, select the airdrop release option, immediately cancel the release, and the game would say you released said dinosaur while also saying the dinosaur was still stuck in the hatchery. Since it would still be in the hatchery, you didnt need to worry about any of its needs and it would never die because the game technically considered it to be non-existant. And since you could build your appeal rating without increasing your dino population, you would never had to deal with diseases, breakouts, or dinosaur related sabotages, thus greatly reducing the overall difficulty even further. Thus, you could make a wildly successful five-star dinosaur park in record time without ever having a single dinosaur. I used it to clear so many challenge mode maps insanely quickly. I wish that exploit was still in the game. It was so silly and a ton of fun to use, and I think Spiff would have had an absolute ball with it.

Josh, on the other hand, simply breaks the games by doing things that were absolutely, totally and under no circumstances intented by the defs or even deemed possible or by bringing them to their absolute limits. I mean, he forced Satisfactory to its knees and to single digit framerates so hard, that the devs actually asked him for a savegame with the conveyor belt tornado, so they could all kinds of data from it, and subsequently do some quite drastic performance improving changes to the game engines.

Excellent video as always! Ive been playing this game for years and frankly I didnt think this could be done. If you wanted to push this *even farther*, here are a plethora of ways you can boost profits: All animals have an "appeal rating", which determines how enthusiastic your guests are for seeing an animal. Chickens have the lowest as you pointed out, but you can increase this in the following ways: Breed gold ranked animals- fairy simple to do, each animals stats has a chance to roll higher than its parents. Doing this also counts as a "lifetime event". These build up individual animal appeal, something you did with GROGNAK. These add to it's star appeal rank at the back of the animal's stat page when you click on it. Guests get bored with small zoos, so make the zoo bigger artificially. Just make the path between the guests and chickens uncomfortably long, and you can add all the food, drink, and gift stands you like. If you start your zoo in an extreme environment, like the arctic or desert, it will make your guests crave even more consessions. Decorate everything. It doesn't matter how well a thing is decorated, just how much. Using a mix of plants and construction items is ideal. You can lower staff wages. Just dont tip them into the red and you're fine. Speaking of staff, your vet serves an extra purpose: research. You can set your vet to max out chicken research which will drive up education and therefore donations. Lastly, a couple of items. Using the education boards and speakers at the same time will drive up education. The habitat camera will boost marketing for basically free as well, and you just need one. Cant wait to see what you do next!

As someone who's had to buy shelter and food for pet chickens, yep, they're expensive. Not the birds themselves, no. But even a small coop for 4 chickens can easily cost 300 dollars. Building one yourself is much, much cheaper. I doubt the zoo really has that option though, so $5800 it is, and that must be with a Black Friday discount.

Hey! :) Couple things you may find useful for your next challenge - - instead of using the fences the game provides, you can place down an invisible fence and then make your own with walls or scenery pieces. You can make them super simple like just placing walls and lowering then in to the ground just enough so guests can see over them. This completely negates any cost for maintenance. It's amazing early game! - you can click on animals and give them birth control to incest prevent 😊
