I still don't understand why so many builds of big channels don't have custom cables. DIY of custom cables has been around for AGES, it was perfected many many years ago, and if they're in USA they could get cablemod if time allowed and didn't want to do it themselves

Everybody who gets this case talks about using the bottom fan mount as intake, which I don't understand. The GPU and CPU have sufficient intake since they are both right next to the side panels. Both tend to then dump their heat within the case so if anything the bottom mount should always be used for exhaust.
@MonkeyZeus194

Hot air rises. Why not take advantage of that?
@ChillBuilds
@ChillBuilds Жыл бұрын
@@MonkeyZeus194 Convection is extremely weak, usually almost negligible. The thing is, the replacement air has to come from somewhere if you set it to exhaust, which could end up recycling hot air anyway. I'm not sure it makes much difference at all.

I remember a video from Optimum Tech finding that setting the bottom fans to exhaust on these SFF cases to be better than setting them to intake. So, you're right.

For my last 2 builds I have shortened original power cables. You don't have to throw them away and buy expensive custom sets. All you need is to shorten one end of like 3 cables, which is 50% less work. Requires minor investment in tools and pins which is roughly in line with popular extension cable sets. But you learn a new skill and the fit will be perfect. And eventually you can do full color custom setups if you decide to do so or could recycle cut cables for different projects since those lose ends already have pin on one end. I learned from Optimum Tech. Except I use hot knife to cut original sleeves/insulation. So you cut and melt/fix them in one move. Works good enough for me.

If you want a cheap and easy undervolt, I would mess with your LLC (load line calibration) in the bios. This will adjust your vcore voltage ranges. Throw it on cinebench between each level to see if it falls in line with what you want. Works well on 13th gen

I ended up using a smaller cooler and I found that putting the gpu further away from the grate side-panel helped keep my temperature low. It runs great now.

I picked up a Jade model of the Terra and love how it looks. I mostly moved a lot of components I already had into it from my main built that was having some heat issues in the ITX case it was in. I was using a Ryzen 5 5600x with a Noctua NH-L9a and while it was able to keep it cool, it was a little too loud. I swapped it out for a NH-L9x65 and now it is pretty much silent even when gaming. GPU is an MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 2x. I have been very happy with the build over all and especially the case, though I wish I had not gotten RGB RAM.

Love the build! One thing I would change is the cooler to the Thermalright AXP120-x67. Same height and clearance as the Big Shuriken 3, but it has an extra heat pipe which REALLY sets it apart from the Big Shuriken 3. On top of that the fins on the cooler are orientated vertically so the path of air flow is much smoother, making the cooler much more efficient. I've had both and tested both in my FormD T1 and I would definitely give it a look if you want to tame the CPU a bit more. On the end note of a potential 120mm fan on the bottom, you'd actually want it to be an exhaust. that'll promote more air pulling through the side panels to help the GPU cooler more effectively.

I keep seeing this reference to horizontal and vertical fin orientation. What does it mean?

@@Notorious544d it’s referring to the fins that the heat pipe go through. If the fins are up and down vertically in the same orientation as your airflow then it doesn’t have to make a 90 degree turn to exit the cooler.

For my build, I went with * Graphite color Fractal Design Terra case * Asus B760I motherboard (I hate that external hive on the Z790I which in my opinion defeats the whole purpose of a small easy to transport ITX system) * Intel 17-13700K * Thermalright AXP120-X67 CPU cooler (it doesn't fit with the heat pipes over the power heat sink, so rather the heat pipes need to go over the RAM, limiting RAM height) * Low-profile 64GB DDR-5600 memory * Seasonic Focus SGX 650W PSU * No GPU (I don't need a GPU for my application) I'm very pleased with the performance and aesthetics of the system. Without needing a GPU, there are smaller cases available, but I've been very happy with Fractal Design cases and decided to continue with them. This and a more robust system in the Fractal Design North case are my two main computer systems, and the wood front on both complement each other, though I mainly use the Terra system for going on the road. Thanks for the video!

I’m trying to work out how putting a 13700K in there is the right choice unless his goal is to make mini pizzas in the comfort of his room. I think we got a brief glimpse of his BIOS setting enforcing all of intel’s limits, so I’m going to assume that quite a bit of nerfing was done quietly. However, for similar price and performance, you can get a Ryzen 9 7900 that runs 65W-95W stock out of the box and probably doesn’t need such a big chungus cooler

i built this same box. it was noisy while running like you would not believe. i ended up dremmeling out the sides and replacing the slots with screen material from a literal screen window. the metal kind not that nylon stuff. i washed it with some muriatic acid to get it nice and silvery. but that didn't look right so i ended up painting it with black high temp exhaust spray paint. it has a great flat black appearance, and it's what i had kinda like the screen. anyway! now the box runs cool and very reasonably quiet.

my take... a lovely build. custom cables would be the best but really you should pick a psu with individually sleeved cables like corsair and lian li who make sfx psu's with individual sleeving. Cables are way more flexible and...no added expense. Lian Li has a psu in white as well. i am planning a sff case build to replace my aging 6 year old pc (gtx 1080 with i7 processor). i am considering the Terra and the Dan C4-SFX but that thing is out of stock and new v2 not set to be released until 2024. It can hold the really big GPUs and you can use tower air coolers (Noctua NH-D12L) and NO Riser cable to mess with! However, i do love having a case on my desk and being able to look into the build so i may do another NR200P (not the max) build. I used for to build for a relative and learned a lot especially cable management as i used a psu with those stiff plastic cables. Hence my comment earlier HaHa. i think you guys, Optimum Tech and Machines and More are my go to sites for equipment suggestions and SFF builds. Keep up the great work!

While I don't have a Terra (one day I'll venture back to SFF...) I do have that same gfx card and it's a dream, crushes everything I throw at it @ 1440p.

So I built this exact build, the only thing I changed was the fan, I went with id cooling is-55 only because I couldn't find the Scythe Big Shuriken 3 Rev.B anywhere. getting the power supply into this case was extremely difficult. over all though I'm happy with the build.

what did you get for the power supply? I couldn't find the one mentioned in the video also. Same goes for the Big Shuriken, currently I'm thinking about Thermalright AXP120-X67 cause it has similar fan size. Also was considering Noctua l9a but I found that it can handle this CPU properly (100 degrees in some benchmarks). What about your thermals with is-55?

@@mrsoommy9162 Go with the is-67 if you can find it. is-55 is fine but it can get loud at higher temps. power supply : SilverStone Technology Extreme 850R Platinum Cybenetics Platinum 850W is going to fit and do well. Get a ARCTIC P12 Slim PWM PST - 120 mm Case Fan or better to do exhaust at the bottom of the case.

as someone new to the modern gaming pc world, i find it absolutely insane that anyone could think gaming 1440 at 200+ in a modern game is somehow frumpy or unimpressive. especially on a tiny pc. i remember when gigantic brick pcs had like 256 MB storage, in like 180p at 24 fps and would overheat if you played something in even basic 3d . people have no idea how spoiled even an entry level current gen GPU is. tbh anything above mid low tier builds are a waste of money unless you care more about flexing than gaming

Any chance to put up a list of parts and prices adding up total MSRP in future builds? This was a beautiful build.

I think all in, the parts cost about $2500 USD.

I'd love to build a PC like this. I'd go for 13600K undervolt, 4070S undervolt and AsRock mobo.

This is the case I’ll be using on my first new pc in 7 years. Still to decide in what colour though, silver will probably age best.. great combo of components though!
