My favorite part of streaming services is the part where intellectual property exists, so instead of content being available on all the places and they compete for who can show it all for the cheapest price, they get to have mini-monopolies and make you pay for multiple services. Streaming was good when Netflix was the only one BECAUSE they were the only one. They've done a good job pivoting to making originals, and monopoly control isn't the answer, but now we get all the inconvenience of competing monopolies and none of the advantages the one-stop shop that was Netflix used to provide

Lol Disney+ always makes me laugh when I think about it. I used to work for Pearson (the textbook company), and while I was working there we got a new CEO who was a Disney executive before he joined the company. One of the first major projects I worked on when I got a new job in the tech side of the marketing department (a little while after he joined as CEO) was Pearson+, a textbook subscription service. One thing I can't stand about Netflix is that every category labeled "trending, popular, critically acclaimed ", are all Netflix originals. Give me some variety when I'm searching for something to watch. I'm not knocking Netflix originals, I love a lot of them. One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is the play next and skip intro/outdo feature. On Netflix if a show has some extra material after credits you can press a “skip credits” to go see that. On Disney however (that owns marvel, the people doing nothing other than after credits) as soon as the movie is done they will force you into watching another movie, and you can’t even go back and watch the credits if you want to. If you try to return to credits they’ll just go back into counting down to next feature. Why are they doing this?! Netflix changed that ages ago??!

@L. Ron Hoyabembe yeah but that's what I'm getting at. Like Eddy said with Netflix having too many options, you may want to go to another streaming service that could have what you want, but then if you have shows mixed around on different platforms you have to pay for the inconvenience of more than one service as you switch around if you want the shows from them. So I'm just projecting and assuming that eventually, you'll get to the point where's theres bundled services that cost alot to have the shows you want wrapped in with a bunch of stuff you don't want. So basically similar to what you literally just described about cable.

The worst part of streaming services, undoubtadly: content monopoly The different streaming services we have now almost never overlap in content, aka you have to go to a specific one to get said content (like, The Office or whatever), AKA, the services don't actually have to improve, since no competing streaming service exists that provides that content, and you can only go to them Which is why more people have gone back to pirating
@Flameclaw123
@Flameclaw123 3 жыл бұрын
That and there are SO many different streaming services now, if you wanted to pay for access to all of them you'd be spending practically as much as cable. When the options were Netflix and Hulu, which were like $20 a month total, everyone had them because it was so cheap, and chances were the show you wanted to watch was on one or the other. It was more convenient than pirating so people just paid. Now it's so expensive to pay for a dozen different streaming services, even if you just want to watch one or two shows at a time, it's worth the effort to pirate just to avoid spending the money. Ironically, 'content monopoly' and 'too many options' not only coexist as issues with streaming services, they work together to have an worse effect when combined

I remember wanting to watch original Twilight Zone with my friend hungover one morning, just mong out and watch some fun schlock. Even though it was on Amazon, you had to buy/rent it separately, and it was damn expensive. We just played a game instead, it ruined the vibe completely. My ex wanted to watch a show she grew up with, also on Amazon, but you had to get *a separate subscription inside Amazon Video* with some bumfuck nothing company to watch it. I wanted to watch the film "Downfall" a while back but it was "unavailable in your country" every single place I looked. I wasted like a half hour trying to find a way to rent it.. and ended up just pirating it five minutes later. I still buy stuff if I'm allowed to, and they're not taking the piss with the pricing, but yeah piracy is slowly becoming the more sane option

For example, Hulu originals can be found on Amazon Prime, CBC Gem and Crave, while the shows and movies they have the streaming rights to can be found on those services as well as Bell Canada's (TV provider) on-demand. What I would really appreciate are some options or settings, specifically: - A setting to automatically skip intros and outros to television series like Bojack Horseman or Archer. - A setting to automatically make the audio the native language, so I can watch anime with Japanese audio, Pan's Labyrinth in Spanish, Star Trek in English, etc. - An option to have certain titles hidden. For example, I no longer want to see Young Sheldon in searches or recommendations, so I "hide" it. - A setting to turn off "Are you still watching?" It's good for people who leave the room or fall asleep, but I really do watch 10 hours of content in one sitting sometimes and I don't want Netflix to judge me anymore lmao. - A setting to turn off autoplay for a different show or movie. For example, I was watching Archer while working on something and at the end of the latest episode, Hulu played Solar Opposites. I like the show, but I was like, whut?

Just so people know, Netflix has a “watch party” type thing. It’s a free chrome extension, google it and you’ll find it. You’re welcome Eddy.

I know this might not be as useful to everyone else but I appreciate how Netflix has a download feature where you can download some shows or movies and watch them offline and it's pretty cool if you don't have unlimited data.

I agree with most of this by you are the first person I’ve heard who actually LIKES auto play. I think having auto play should be an option that you have to choose on setup (and could change later if you wanted)

The only thing I look for when finding a pirated show is autoplay. I don't wanna get out of bed to go to the next episode. Although now I bought a wireless mouse so it's not an issue. Edit: Now I watched the video and know that I was thinking about something else. Yeah, I don't like that feature but like everything, it should be optional. I hate when services remove a feature. Like KZbin removing annotations was very dumb. They should have just made them not available to add anymore but kept them on old videos.

i'm almost positive you can turn the sound off of the autoplay in settings on netflix, but it's so annoying for it to start as soon as you accidentally hover on a show or whatever

Netflix had a watch party type thing during the 360 Xbox live period. Your avatars would sit in a movie theater and the movie would play (in a smaller screen size because of the avatars)

My family has had Netflix since they became a streaming service and I’ve enjoyed seeing how they update things. There was this virtual assistant type thing named max that would help you find something new to watch. For a bit they had a lil quiz asking what genre and such that you wanted to watch and it’s pick one out

Another thing I like about Netflix UI is they've got a great algorithm when it comes to knowing what's in an episode. (There's a skip recap button, skip intro button, it'll autoplay the next episode but if there's an after credit scene it won't, and fuck I wish more streaming services had those quality of life changes.) Another con to Netflix is cuties.

Also with Disney, when you click on a movie you're done with, but haven't watched the credits it'll just stay in your "continue watching" and there's no "restart" button, so you have to rewind yourself like I had to with VHS tapes. Even CDs had, restart buttons

There is a way to skip Hulu ads by when a ad pops up if you press the start over button there is a bug where is shows like the last 3 seconds of starting ad then if you stop by skipping ahead just after the ad you watch the 3 second part of a ad instead of a 1:30 minute ad it won’t work if you were watching the show previously you have to have started the video. There is one more way to skip ads it only works on mobile devices and you have to get lucky what you have to do just before the ad start you go into the mini screen mode like for watching and doing something on one device then if you tap it lets you skip ahead 15 seconds so if you spam it just before the ad it with normally shave of 0:45 seconds if you’re lucky but it depends on how fast you type it. God that was mouth full.
