This season was great, however, it did highlight our obsession with unhealthy love. The Duke was LARGELY EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE to the point where his own demons of past hurt prevented him from ever wanting to marry, have kids, or live in that area. His issues don’t just magically go away because he “burns” for her and she for him! Meanwhile the PRINCE …. A whole ass PRINCE completely SAW her, desired EXACTLY what she desired, and was graciously and kindly willing to accommodate her priorities of wanting to be near her family as she started her own!! She sabotaged that by holding emotional space for someone who couldn’t fully provide the vision of love she was looking for. And the Duke (I would argue) was selfish to come back to “say goodbye” despite how it ended. In the same way she “courted” the Duke she could’ve done the same with the Prince and reached better outcomes. …. If she didn’t it would’ve been primarily because she was holding space for someone, who at the time, couldn’t even provide what she desired. So many compromises just because you “burn” for each other. Good lord her brother was even willing to duel and die over this “burning” drama. (He was a big ass mess too but you get my point.) Drama always swirls around unhealthy connections, but somehow we interpret that as passion. We really ought to learn to say, yes I burn for you too and This could have been amazing, however our desires for the future aren’t aligned and that would cause too much significant compromise for one or the both of us. I love you and will never forget you. The end. Thanks for coming to my KZbinx talk.
