I think Syndrome is honestly one of my favorite Pixar Villains. Usually with stories like this, you'd have one of the few powerless characters in a world full of superheroes be the main character. The main character would poke their nose where it doesn't belong(usually for their idol) and somehow end up saving the day. Everything goes right for them. But not in this movie. Syndrome is not the main character. When he tries to help, things get worse. And his idol doesn't have anything positive to say to him. It's like a flip of a good portion of superhero story tropes. Combined with some of his lines and how sinister he is, he's definitely one of my favorites

His idol doesn't have anything positive to say to him, but it was for his own best interest. Mr Incredible knew that superhero work is dangerous and that if he pursued it, Buddy was likely to get himself hurt or killed. I also like that it shows that despite his intelligence, the one thing he doesn't have is experience, because Mr Incredible is able to get him monologuing, even though Mr Incredible and Frozone are talking about that earlier in the movie.

I think this is a sweet, well written movie and all, but also, like you said, the action scenes are so great. @@JimmyMacram Multiverse of Madness was the opposite of creative. Everytime Dr Strange or Scarlet Witch got into a spot of bother the writers just invented a new power to get them out of it. Neither of them had weaknesses, which is what forces you to get creative. Take for example, Magneto, in X-Men, he is very powerful, but his powers have some clear limitations, he can't manipulate glass or plastic, so when his enemies lock him up in a plastic prison, it takes some creative thinking to get out of it.

This is an amazing movie. The humor and action are great, but its the moments of humanity that make it so good. "I can't lose you again. Not again. I'm not strong enough" From an almost indestructible man who uses freight trains for work outs, admitting he is vulnerable in many other ways.

@@rsrt6910 Well, you have to remember, when this movie was made, it wasn't by Disney, it was under John Lasseter's genius at Pixar. After Disney bought out Pixar, Lasseter was thrown under the bus during the #MeToo movement, an earlier form of Cancel Culture. The score borrows heavily from the James Bond Films Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. The sequence where Mr. Incredible discovers KRONOS is a slightly altered version of the music from this scene right here by original Bond composer James Barry: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ane3c2uKnNuai80 You can jump to the 1-minute mark when the music starts. The original trailer for the movie, before there was a soundtrack, was the scene with Mr. Incredible trying to get into his uniform and they used the actual theme for On Her Majesty's Secret Service for the trailer, so even though it's a superhero movie they were definitely looking for the 60's Bond feel from the start.

I definitely agree with the praise for how they showed Dash’s powers. I think slow motion to show super speed is good if used effectively (like, once for a POV thing), but I think showing a character zip around in real time is not only more exciting but also grounds the character to show they’re not unstoppable time gods and actually still have a chance to be hurt. Speedster characters who can move so fast that they stop time are unbelievably boring IMO, characters like Flash should be portrayed like how Dash was in this movie.
@SenseofNoneYT
@SenseofNoneYT Жыл бұрын
True. It's getting overused. That's what I appreciated with Makkari in The Eternals movie. Whether you like or movie or not, that speedster portrayal was fire. IIRC there was no slomo shot for her. Saving people, whoopin ass, or running around the planet, she was always portrayed in real-time. I loved Dash the most in The Incredibles in terms of powers. Love me some speedster.

Great reaction and I like how you point out how Mr. Incredible would not let go, ironically the same trait his "biggest fan" possessed that led him down his path to being turbined. One of the "under the surface" great things about this movie is how often it sets up huge scenes with small, almost throw away lines earlier in the film. When Syndrome first meets Mr. Incredible he points out that the omnidroid went through "quite a few versions" to get it ready to fight HIM... A line of seeming little importance until we get the later scene where Mr. Incredible finds out what happened to the Supers. That scene is not only chilling for how meticulous and straight up ruthless Syndrome is shown to be, but it is also given added weight by the line "went through quite a few versions to get it ready to fight YOU". Effectively twisting the knife of him finding out his friends are dead just a little more.
@Ebon_Sean
@Ebon_Sean Жыл бұрын
I love the little touch where the database showed that Syndrome knew Frozone's location. He had Mirage scouting him as the next target to lure to Nomanisan Island to test the Omnidroid on, and by happy accident she wound up finding Syndrome's REAL prey, Mr. Incredible, and thus switched to him, kicking off the plot. In terms of subtlety, the visual differences in how the "Fly home, Buddy, I work alone" scene actually played out (Mr. Incredible focused on apprehending Bomb Voyage while Buddy's in the way) vs. how Syndrome's biased, self-victimizing flashback remembers it (just the two of them, Mr. Incredible in a spotlight, looking down condescendingly on Buddy) is the kind of genius you just don't see in Pixar movies anymore.

@Ebon_Sean
@Ebon_Sean 9 ай бұрын
@hellogoodbyeandallinbetween I don't think so. Lava might be Frozon's weakness, but it’s also everyone's weakness - it's lava. The Omnidroid's whole thing is that it's a learning robot, meaning it self-reprograms as it gains experience and constantly adapts to new situations. It'd defeat the whole point of its design to preprogram info that its job, in the first place, is to be able to learn on the fly.

The only time I remembered him being called "Robert" instead of "Bob" was this exchange in Incredibles 2: Bob: Combustion imminent? What does that mean? AAAAH! Edna: It means fire, Robert. 8:49-8:55 Something I've never understood about this segment of the fight: Mirage previously stated that the Omnidroid is a *learning* robot, but it doesn't seem to do a good job of it here. 17:52-17:55 Yes, I know that Dash is only ten years old, and I'm fully aware that he doesn't have the martial arts training to put more of his mass into his strikes. That said, his sheer speed alone should have given him more striking power. Same issue with his fight with Screech on the Dev Tech ship in the second movie (even if he did have less leverage than in this exchange with Syndrome's henchman, I think his kicks should have been more effective than was shown in the movie).

I honestly think super speed is best when both are used. Give us the slow mo when something needs to be shown. But give us this movie's style of super speed for most of it. Give us the indulgent quicksilver stuff, but contrary it by showing us what others see.

Yep. It’s still a top a video game based on a movie. It follows the plot but takes time to add in a lot of extra details to scenes

Brad Bird is responsible for The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille. That's three of the greatest animated films ever made under his belt. He also directed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which he was clearly qualified for given the action in The Incredibles.

arguably the best superhero movie because the PLOT was brilliant, genius idea to write a midlife crisis movie in the superhero genre, the pert where he says hes not not strong enough to risk losing his wife, such a good payoff and not a beat wasted

It’s funny to me that you didn’t show your reaction to the single most iconic scene in the Incredibles. Maybe the first time you watch the supersuit scene you don’t realize it’s iconic, but it’s probably the most quoted thing I hear from this movie.

6:16 That line is funny for me as a German because in Germany, that kinda is a celebration because moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade means you go from primary school to high school thus graduating from primary school so to speak.

Justice League gets a full pass from me on the slow motion super speed for one reason. It was the only way you could show instead of tell that Superman could see Flash moving.

As I kid I loved it, the dialogs and story watched it again as an adult and caught even more jokes, I love that most of these animation movies also have adult humor in it, makes you still appreciate the movies with another eye when you watch them way later

This is the movie I like to watch on Mother’s Day. That the mom has to learn to focus on what really matters to keep her family thriving is a lesson every mom has to learn at some point. Plus it’s just an awesome superhero flick!

Your comment about the depictions of Speedsters is very on-point, seeing Dash's powers work in real time makes it really exciting. I like to think Eternals movie took inspiration from how Dash used his powers when they designed how to show Makkari's speed powers.

The writing in this movie is so good. Every character has a relatable struggle or situation to overcome aside from their superheroing. From Bob not being satisfied with his life to Violet and Dash’s desire to accept or discard their powers that their parents seem to be ashamed of.

And, there's more: Every member of the family has a power that mirrors, in some way, the character's status in life: - Helen, as Elastigirl, has a super-flexible body, and also has a super-flexible spirit: SHE's the one who has most easily adapted to the new role of wife and mom, and is completely at ease with having retired as a masked adventurer. - Dash is the stereotypical "ten-year-old-on Ritalin" - a near-uncontrollable ball of energy; - Violet is the "Invisible Girl" - unsure of herself and her place in the world, desires to fit in (or to not stand out), hiding her face behind her hair thru most of the film; - Jack Jack, as the new baby, is "undefined" - pure potential, his powers could be zero, but could also be near-infinite: what will he surprise us with? - Bob as Mr. Incredible, is super-strong and near (but not quite) invulnerable, tries to do his duty, adapt to post-hero status, and to be 'the rock' of the family - but really struggles with it.

The character the "freeze" I think his name is, is Sammual Jackson. The mom superhero is Holly Hunter. I think the main superhero is Craig T. Nelson.? Not sure the other voices.
