I can't believe I hit this with the excavator!! Come along with me today as we start clearing windrows for the next fencing project on the farm. We've got work to do...but this little guy had different plans!

Considering the way you talked to your dog for weeks after he got sprayed, you aren't getting much sympathy from your dog right about now ...

Running an excavator just takes time but in the seat you doing great. I said look at your land when you first started. You had briars and sticks. Now you got a perfectly manicured piece of art. Great job!

Once you get used to operating the machine it gets smoother, the jerky moves of the arm and bucket is what's beating you up. It just takes time to get more practice on smoothing out your movements.
@user-pt5vs8ue9q
@user-pt5vs8ue9q 24 күн бұрын
As Kevin just said, more seat time will help. BUT, LET the machine do the work, don't force it. Smoother steady arm and bucket movements will save that carcass of yours! Should have moved that Skidsteer with the raptor attachment up there too. Eh, another learning lesson, Bro. You want a rough jerky excavator to use, rent a Kubota. They just don't have the adequate counter balance like John Deer,and others. My favorite machine is a Volvo 240! Also, I would've used the bucket and cut that tree in thirds! Ease of movement!

I run all types of heavy equipment daily but mainly an excavator and if I was running the excavator instead of picking through and pushing back I would be picking and raking the dirt back towards me making a decent place to sit and work off of helping to eliminate the rocking while you try to pick and sort through the material. But sometimes the rocking is unavoidable and you just have to go with it till you're able to get leveled back out
@jerryhubbard4461
@jerryhubbard4461 24 күн бұрын
I know you don't have one but a dozer with a root rake would be the way to go here. But, the excavator can act as one just takes longer. You will have to learn to use the bucket to remove more of the dirt from the debris.

I agree.....next I'll bring the skid loader over with the grapple and land leveler, we'll push, smooth and get this pasture looking sharp, burn that brush pile. Needed to knock it down a bit so I wasn't working in a briar patch with an open cab skid steer mostly

Skunks will dig up and eat wasp nests when it gets below 50 degrees (wasps dont fly well when cold) in the late fall I love finding the dug up nests. I dont like the smell, but they serve a purpose.

Looking at that debris field. I may have raked it by pulling the bucket level towards you to the depth of the bucket teeth then push it along with the blade. When you get a large accumulation blade it from the side, 90 degrees to the scraping. That large of a machine will blade a lot.

Not much for stumps in there....thought you may leave it in place to slow water run off. Just brush hog it. This will make more useable land though.

I researched the yellow jacket one year after so many stings I got from them. I wasn't aware of this, but they are actually in the hornet family. Rather than a big hornet nest in a tree they build under ground. And yeah, the skunks and armadillos tear them up in the fall. I think the others are right in that it is likely deer flies getting you. I hate them and the gnats too. When I had my dove field cleared I had the dozier operator use the debris to create wind rows. Now I need to do the same as you, however I don't have the equipment handy. My tractor mechanic does side jobs with a skid steer and mulcher so I'll likely get him over there to look at it and give me an estimate. I plan on keeping a few trees that have grown up, but things like mimosa, cherry, loblolly pine, sassafras all need to go.

Think a skid steer with mulcher might have worked better. But time in the seat of a digger is great fun
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 25 күн бұрын
lots of dirt pushing in this, mulcher wouldn't have been able to pull out the logs and stumps so much. more to come as I take the skid loader over and dress all this up

Looking good Josh. The best way to learn is to get on it. That’s looks like some awesome compost. If it were me. I’d had dig some of this bushes stand move them away then load that soil in a manure spreader and throw it all over the pasture or rent a D3 dozer and spread it to the tree lines. Stay safe buddy

Yellowjackets commonly build nests underground. Paperwasps are the ones that (a lot of people think are yellowjackets) build nests in the eaves of houses. There are paperwasps round the farm here and they are pollenators and they predate on pests. I've never been stung by any. If you don't f round with them, you won't have to worry about the finding out part has been my experience.

BTW. I am shopping Kubota RTVs. Your Kubota must be in 'low' for it to be so slow. Kubota says you should see 25mph in 'high.'
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 24 күн бұрын
nope, I'm a little smarter than that brother...it's super slow and super loud!!! I'm telling ya bro....go with a Honda Pioneer 1000-6 you will not be happy with the kubota after a couple years! Go test the kubota...then go drive the honda! You'll be blown away...same payload, towing and everything but you've got a tank in the kubota...it's loud, smelly, slow and will last forever. The honda is quiet, comfortable, fast when you need it and just as capable as the kubota. I have no doubt the kubota will outlast the honda since it's a diesel....but you can't even hold a conversation in the kubota......honda pioneer is better....and dont' get me started on the Gator!! I've had one, some friends have had them and still do...nothing but problems. I have the Kubota RTV x1140 and the Pioneer and since I got the pioneer....I've put 3 hours on the kubota in the last year!! LOUD!! SLOW!! But great utility....oh...be sure you get the power dump option in the pioneer..it's worth it!

I am thinking we have to catch that in another stinking episode. So you get stung by a mayfly what's next a june bug? Yeah im around 6'4" i was 6'4 "& 3/4" but as i got older im less tall have you got bare foot and not lifted up and put a 2 ft level to the wall and checked your height in a while? You may find all this im very strong lifting of heavy weight has brought you down less tall it happens pretty much to everyone. Have your girlfriend check your barefoot head height no tippy toeing up a wee bit. Its part of this ive got back pain stuff
