I have one of these and it's so amazing. I drove the Memphis freeway at rush hour on a Friday afternoon, just bobbing and weaving through traffic, effortlessly. The paddle shifters work really well, the car is always planted and the faster you go the more she ikes it. It sticks to the road, the steering is direct and tight. It's perfectly planted and composed at 110+ mph. Whoever designed the aerodynamics on this car really did an amazing job. And if you put it in green mode you'll get 45 mpg on the highway!

That European cars are ok cars if they are taken care because from my experience with seeing friends and family maintaining their VWs, if they are maintained religiously they easily last 200k. I remember reading your posts about why you should never buy a Mini. I have a 2008 Clubman S 6-speed manual, with 110k on it. With the barn doors and fold-down seats, I can haul an amazing amount of stuff. Only problem I've had with it is a water pump replacement, and one coil pack that went bad. Still runs and shifts great. Everything still works on it, burns very little oil, and the A/C is ice cold. Gets about 34mpg driving normally, sure I could get better if I tried. Has plenty of power, and handles like a go-cart, like you said. I've had it up to 125 and it wasn't even breathing hard. My biggest complaint is that you can only get a replacement keyfob at a MINI dealer, the closest of which is 200 miles from me. Even my local BMW dealer won't do it. And the keys are ridiculously expensive.

As a mechanic I wasn’t fond of these particularly the earlier 2000s Mini. I had to do an idler pulley on a base model 2016 Mini with a 3cyl engine and I was stumped on how amazing it drove. It had more get up and go than most turbo 4’s I’ve driven and was surprisingly refined. I once owned a MK6 Golf GTI and this base Mini actually drove better.

I'm still driving a 2003 Toyota Camry LE that now has a little over 193,000 miles on it. Even though that car was handed down to me from my older brother, I still try to maintain it as best as I can. That Mini Cooper looks great I'll say that but cars like that can become endless money pits if you don't keep up with the proper maintenance. I mean any car can have serious issues like mine when for example one of my break calipers froze so bad I wasn't able to get it to move. Hints why I had to call a tow truck to tow it to my house until it got fixed which it did eventually get fixed.

You are right, in the UK cars are serviced (over serviced for the most part) and where mini's are concerned they are pretty much reliable with a lot of first gen minis still looking good and driving good on the roads. They have head gasket issues if the coolant is not changed regularly and the ride can get very harsh, but changing the dampers usually sorts this issue out. I have an R50 cooper with 168,000 miles which runs great. It had a water pump leak after 167,00 miles so I decided to take the head off to check the condition of the engine. To my surprise, there was no wear to the bores/cam/valves other than what would have been deemed reasonable for an engine that had done 80,000 miles not almost 170,000. Suspension kit was £240 and the head gasket/bolts was another £80. plus about 9 hours work to fit them all. Regular fluid changes - oil and coolant makes a car last so much longer
@trevorwoolf81763 жыл бұрын
The original mini cooper S was total fun machine. The engine 1269 cubic inches reved out to 8000 rpm. The motor had long bor stroke, the motor came out with dome pistons. If you changed the pistons to flat tops and shaved the head 3000 of an inch with twin 1/2inch SU carberettors and give a dyno tune this car would scream easy keep up with a V8.

God DELIVERS! This gave me the confirmation I can still consider the Mini. I'm looking at getting a Mini 4 door or Countryman, Fiat 500X(I test drove it yesterday, nice ride, but cheap insides), or a Kia Soul. I want one used with about 60K miles. I'm big on taking care of my car, so the cost of maintenance is a priority. Because the Mini is made by BMW I was very cautious. I love the look and size of the 500X, and the Kia Soul is the most affordable one. I currently have a Toyota Corolla 2011. I'm in the market for a car that will last me 5-6 years, fun to drive, cute and quirky, can take possible cross country/up-coast drives. I'm 25, so I'm trying to make the most of the next chapter of my life being single, no baggage(married/kids), and fully independent.

Makes sense. Most marines are dumb tools. Edit: I know marines who will tell you the same. “The biggest group of idiots you will ever see.” - a marine Wonder why they use them as pawns..
