- The only positive this movie can receive is that it was so bad it pissed off the creator, Akira Toriyama and he actually decided to return to the series with the movie Battle of God's which led to the continuation of the franchise. Even one of Evolution's writers apologised for the movie few years after - Which is worse? Well it's comparing garbage to different garbage, but Airbender was some what more faithful. - Apparently originally Oozaru wasn't even going to be an ape in the movie. Instead it was going to be a some kind of lizard monster. But fan outrage made them change it. In hindsight was it really worth it? - One of the narrator's was the same narrator for the DBZ and the other guy is the "Epic Voice Guy" from Honest Trailers

They might as well have called this movie "How Toriyama Got His Groove Back". This movie was so bad, it caused Akira Toriyama, a creator known for his indifference toward his creations, to look back and say "oh fuck, THIS is what apathy gets you?" So when he heard Toei was working on Battle of Gods, he strutted up to their office, declared "I'M BACK, BITCHES!" and proceeded to _rewrite their entire script._ After that, he wrote Resurrection F, and the reception of both movies invigorated him enough to start working on Dragon Ball Super. Heck, even Piccolo's actor, James Marsters, got redemption in that he voiced a major villain in Super by the name of Zamasu, and is widely credited as giving one of the best performances in the entire dub.

Ah, Monday! Back from my weekend excursion, just in time for the day's DuckGoesQuestionCorners! I wonder what he's reacting to toda- _evolution evolution EVOLUTION EVOLUTION_ _SPIT-TAKE_ WHAT ...okay, I... did not expect that... hoo boy we got quite the corner ahead of us, eh? Alright, let's get this moving. "Is this an intro? Is this like a group of people?" Nostalgia Critic was the second comedic personality-based reviewer of anything that got really popular and known. The Angry Video Game Nerd was first. Despite some modern controversies surrounding Doug Walker (Critic's real name), both have cemented their place in internet history. "What is going on right now?" It's a bit of a parody of the style of the original Z, complete with the original narrator from the dub himself, Kyle Hebert! Still more faithful than the movie. "His grandpa? That's not Roshi." Remember how Goku got dropped on Earth after escaping the destruction of Vegeta? In the original, he got found by an elderly man called Gohan. Gohan is the man who gave him his name of Goku, taught him a teensy-bit-basics of combat, and taught him to not look at the moon. I WONDER WHY- yeah Goku killed Gohan and didn't even realize it was him until he saw Vegeta transform into the Oozaru. It was actually a pretty sad moment in the original. "What was the budget for this movie?" 30 million USD. The best-looking thing in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, had a budget of 8.5 million. Christ. "I don't know what that's about." He was quoting Pumbaa from The Lion King. "Slimy, yet satisfying!" became parodied as "slimy, yet seething with anger-filled disappointment!" "What's worse, this or The Last Airbender?" A question none dared to asked, as such would require further exposure to both. They're about equal shit levels. At least you can squint at The Last Airbender and see the show. This? WOW no. "Geeko? Really?" Yes, really. Christ, this movie... "What have I seen him in? I feel like I've seen him in other movies..." You've seen War of the Worlds. He was... kinda... starting? Evolution killed him though. "Gohan's actual dad." NNNNNNOPE. I don't know how well it was brought up during your run on Abridged, but in the original, Kami was once unfit for the role of Guardian of Earth according to his master and predecessor. In an attempt to please him and prove his worth, Kami split the evil from his body and formed another being- the evil Demon King Piccolo. Roshi's master Mutaito sealed him away in a rice cooker using the Mafu-ba technique, but he was set free much later and wreaked havoc across the world. Fortunately, Goku was able to kill him. Unfortunately, he immediately spit out an egg. That egg hatched into the Piccolo that YOU know. "Containment...?" Ghostbusters joke. They were making jokes because Ernie Hudson was in both movies. "Who's Uncle Ben?" ...Spider-Man? Peter Parker's Uncle Ben? "They're bringing in guns a lot." That glock is kinda the Nostalgia Critic special. His iconic sidepiece. "Did they cut his tail off?" HE HAS NO TAIL. He just got shocked back to normal! THIS MOVIE IS BULLSHIT! "Wait, who's that?" Jon Bailey. Famous badass internet voice guy. Voice of Honest Trailers, if you've seen those. "I remember going to theaters to see Last Airbender" Oh... oh my god... you... poor, poor soul... I... don't have it in me to do a proper outtro for the DuckGoesQuestionCorner. You wanna hear two crazy things about this film? First: both the lead hero and lead villain actors were big fans of Dragonball. Justin Chatwin, playing Goku, buried himself in Dragonball material to be ready for Goku. He watched both DB and DBZ, read the manga for both, and even read the book that inspired the franchise, Journey to the West, to understand Goku's roots in Sun Wukong. And James Marsters, playing Piccolo, argued and fought with both the makeup artists and Director to make him green and actually look like Piccolo. He literally argued to have MORE time in the chair; first I've heard of that. And yet, both were sorely bummed and disappointed when they finally read the script; pretty much deciding to give as much effort acting their roles as the studio did adapting the manga. Second: when Akira Toriyama saw what they did to his series in this film, he came out of retirement to make Dragonball Super because he was THAT pissed. Yes, he was pissed off so badly by this film that he retconned GT (kinda) and came back to show them how it's done.

5:26 - *Kyle:* Who is supposed to be Goku, in this? *Me:* Good Question. 7:13 - *Kyle:* His grandpa? That's not Roshi. *Me:* That's not Master Roshi. That's Grampa Gohan, in Anime Goku named his firstborn after him. 11:56, 20:49 - *Technically in it doesn't matter,* but lady working for Piccolo, is soupoust to be Mai from Pilaf Gang, the comic relief characters that are trying to get Dragon Balls for themselves, but they always, will somehow screw it up. In the Movie, Mai is Piccolo's Henchwoman, that can also shapeshift (22:33), which is only a little weird. Even thoe in Anime Shapeshifting is actually known in Dragon Ball World, Mai shouldn't known that technique. 17:00 - To be fair in Anime, Capsule Technology doesn't make sense either. 19:06 - It's disapointing that, this is the closest we ever will have to "Fighter Chi Chi". 19:29 - This moment is not much far from Anime, When Goku meet Yamcha for the first time, Yamcha was a Desert Bandit and he wanted to robbed Goku & his Friends, and back then Yamcha was kicking Gokus butt, but than Yamcha spotted Bulma and run away, because back then Yamcha used to be scared of girls. In Movie, He's just a jerk. 22:09 - *Kyle:* Do I wanna see, what Tien looks like? *Me:* Don't worry, at this point there's no more character introductions, So no Live Action Tien Shinhan and/or Krillin. 24:19 - That's a thing in Dragon Ball, In Anime Every time Goku saw Full Moon, he turns in to Oozaru (A.K.A. Great Ape), and loses control over his mind. And that was an actual reason how Grampa Gohan Died, Through most of his life Goku belived a mysterious monster killed his Grampa, and non of his friends knew how to tell him, that he was a Monster that killed his Grampa. But than Dragon Ball Z happend, we were introduced to Saiyans and that Oozaru Form is common among Saiyans. And as you can see, Movie doesn't care. 27:32 - *Kyle:* ...And they gonna fight, and i guess they gonna get married, cause that's in the show, but they were kids? *Me:* To be specific, In Anime, When they were kids, Goku promised to Chi-Chi he marry her, but the thing was that goku didn't know what marriage was. When they both became young adults, Chi-Chi was mad at Goku, not only to forget the promise, but also for not recognising her, after clearing up a misunderstanding, she became understandably depressed. Goku feeld bad about all this, so he decided to, propose to Chi-Chi for real this time. Also i don't know if you can, but can you watch MasakoX's videos. A "Dragon Ball What IF" to be Specific. Fun Fact: The narrator Kyle is the actual voice actor of Gohan and narrator in Dragon Ball Z and Super.
@BlahBlahWoofWoof123 жыл бұрын
The film had a budget of 30 million & only made 58.2 million at the box office. Also, fun fact about Goku's awkward horniness. After Goku came to earth his grandpa Gohan found him as a baby in the woods & raised him. Until he died he had never seen another human being until he met Bulma when he was still a child, who was the very first female he had ever met, so he was pretty confused about her & that she was different from him & even tried lifting up her skirt. When they went on a journey together to find the dragon balls they set up camp one night & while she was sleeping he laid in her lap like he used to do with his grandpa, but since she was a girl her lap felt different & he didn't understand why so he ended up slapping it & then took off her underwear to see why, causing him to go into a panic because he believed that, "Your balls are gone!" This woke her up but at the time she thought he meant the dragon balls so she didn't realize what he did. Also also, there are many Kyles in this video but there is only one Best Kyle

@@theduckgoesmoo Honest trailers is a popular You Tube series of trailers made by the team filled with wit and sarcasm of movies requested by people to cover. Some actually make you think of things you didn't spot growing up that are pretty bad. Also popular to react to. Besides that Screen Junkies is mostly commentary on movies & culture surrounding it.

"With his grandpa-" "That's not Roshi." Roshi isn't related to Goku. In the original/first Dragon Ball anime, Goku, after having crashed on Earth as a baby, was raised by a man named Gohan (the namesake of his future son), who taught him how to live in the wild and became a grandpa in Goku's eyes. Eventually, Grandpa Gohan died, and Goku met Roshi, who knew Grandpa Gohan, and taught Goku his martial arts, including the Kamehameha. Long story short, Roshi is not Goku's grandpa, but one of his martial arts teachers

ah, the staring a chi-chi scene. I remember some speculation when we just had screencaps/trailer bit of that scene that people were speculating that the writers had while it would not let him transform, a realistic enough image with light would put goku into a subcounsic trans because his body is half waiting for the moonlight trigger. There you go, a scene that reflects more of the show and takes into account the difficulties trying to have goku's actor have a realistic looking Saiyan tail for most of the movie.

there's a Taiwanese movie named Dragon Ball: the magic begins. it may not be a good movie by itself, but it's WAY better than this movie...at least Last Airbender TRIED to make it like the source material! at least the characters there somewhat looked like the source characters.

That "Other Kyle" was John Bailey, from Honest Trailers. That assassin was named Mai, she was stolen from the first villain of Dragon Ball, Emperor Pilaf. She's nothing like this Mai. The creator of this movie had NEVER watched Dragon Ball. This movie actually pissed Toriyama(The creator of Dragon Ball) off so much he decided to make more Dragon Ball. And that's how Super came about.

Tbh DBE is better because names are correct and it's doing something new, they aren't using frustrating & odd transitions every single minute to go through every episode.

The problem with this movie is that they took the kung fu comedy story of Dragon Ball and gave it an unnecessary amount of 21st-century edge. Oh, and they gave Goku the high school life of Gohan in the Buu Saga. Aaaaand completely omitted key characters like Krillin, Launch, and Tien.

To answer one of your questions, this movie reportedly had a budget of $30 million. And I feel you should watch the Honest Trailer on this film. There are 2 ways they put it best. The first was they called it "America's biggest insult to Japanese culture since the bombing of Hiroshima." The second was that it was "an adaptation that literally steals from everything except the source material."
@thehowlinggamer57843 жыл бұрын
Also, I'd say last Airbender movie is better, but just slightly. They at least have decent effects to an extent. But there's still a lot they get wrong too...
@seamusburke6393 жыл бұрын
This movie was originally supposed to be a $100 million production directed by Stephen Chow from KUNG-FU HUSTLE. But they couldn't get a script together, so by the time the 2007 Writer's Strike rolled around, they just threw together a script and a $30 million budget. They filmed at an abandoned blue jean factory in Durango, Mexico, and basically lied to all the actors to get them down there.

@Makuta Hermann i disagree, the old episodes dont rely on skits as much, not that i have a problem with skits, just that too much can be too much, plus theres some gems in there like Thr Adventures of Sonic the hedgehog, scooby doo movie, The IT mini series, the room, etc. All classics

Fun (?!?!) Fact: James Marsters' German voice actor is the same one that Piccolo got for DBZ. So by some cosmic coincidence, there was actually ONE common thing between this abomination and the anime. And let me tell you, seeing this and hearing the voice you connect with proper Piccolo was kind of jarring. Like... A LOT...
