That's actually an incorrect statistic I have no idea where u came up with that percentage lol it's actually heavily dependent on specific px, but for RYGB specifically, it's 40% over 12 years post-op (also specifically referring to at least =>30% weight loss as well, as it's misleading to say kept "the weight off", how much weight could mean a number of things to diff patients). It is significantly lower overtime but 40% over 12 years is actually a pretty decent number statistically speaking as far as one could realistically expect clinically, there are myriad factors that can affect the success rate, most of which are In the hands of the patient and a matter of lifestyle, but there are also factors beyond their control that can affect the long-term success so to speak of the surgery. Surgery is just a tool and it’s a necessary and needed tool for many people in order to perform the surgery in the first place in any situation, the benefits have to outweigh the risks, which are not insignificant in the slightest when we’re talking about a person with tremendous risk for surgical complications. General anesthesia complications, and typically multiple comorbid DX in addition to their obesity.

I feel bad for the mother and kids. How does eating all that food not make him physically sick 🤢
@jordanalandry1866 Жыл бұрын
it’s crazy isn’t it? It makes me physically sick just looking at it not because the person is fat. I’m just saying because of the sheer amount of food they’re consuming I feel sick. I can’t imagine eating that much even one time I would pay a heavy price for it, and, the discomfort alone, and the prospect of that discomfort would prevent me from gorging myself to that extent as it would most people, but these people have stretched their stomach to such an extreme. It’s able to contain so much more food than it’s supposed to be able to. your stomach is, and you’ve probably heard this before but it’s about the size of your fist. That’s not very big in my case it’s probably about the size of a baseball, so eating more than a baseball size portion of food, for myself personally would result in me being uncomfortably full, that’s why surgery to reduce the size of their stomach and limit its contents is a tool. It’s obviously just a tool but an effective one nonetheless to prohibit them from eating such huge quantities of food. I mean their gastrointestinal tract has to be screaming in distress from the esophagus on down all that extra weight and all of that extra food consumption that the body doesn’t need can cause a whole chain reaction of uncomfortable symptoms from acid reflux to gastritis to constipation/bowel obstructions to diarrhea. I mean you get the idea I think most of us know what it feels like if maybe on a holiday say Thanksgiving, or some thing we overindulgent little bit, and, we feel like shit the next day or immediately there after too much carbs too much sugar too much heavy food and a person will be swollen inflamed. Feel like you gain 10 pounds overnight lol it’s uncomfortable but to these people it’s a compulsion it’s an addiction. It’s just a habit they have become so accustomed to it.

@@jordanalandry1866that why I'm heavier than you
@jordanalandry1866Ай бұрын
@@Budak_Butak well with all due respect, I doubt u are super morbidly obese, and I didn't mention my weight lol. Also, if u are in fact, heavier than I, as a physician I will tell u a LOT of that has to do with genetics, our metabolism, age, a lot of shit we can't control. (Obviously eating exorbitant qty of high calorie food and never moving almost anybody is gonna gain weight, barring some really extreme metabolic circumstances, but how quickly and how much weight someone gains and how easily they can lose it, where it goes, that's largely a genetic deal. Of course when you just snowball and eat more and more and worse and worse and move less and less it degrades ur body's metalbolic function and efficiency and lands these people in a vicious cycle of driving their body like they stole it, pedal to the floor pushing the envelope. Most people aren't doing that. I would say technically clinically almosy everyone overindulges or overeats at times on occasion, and they can compensate for it they aren't 600 lbs u can enjoy food without assigning it with being the one solution to every problem, and every sole enjoyment in ur life. We have to eat or we'll die so there's nothing wrong with enjoying it in the process, we're not machines otherwise we wouldn't need taste buds and smell or even teeth we could just consume some sort of nutritional fuel and we still could if we had to but we have the luxury msot of us of not having to. But just a little bit of responsibility goes a long way. I mean we also need oxygen and water but both of those are fatal as well if they exceed the amounts our bodies need. We need insulin but it's capable to kill someone. Etc u get the point my point is don't be more hung up on weight so much as balance and health including mental unfortunately as a society, we’ve taken a shift from a very unhealthy diet, culture and extreme thinness to normalizing or trying to glorify or accept morbid obesity and neither one is a good place to be. People are always gonna be different And still be healthy in their weight what’s healthy for me might be underweight or even overweight for someone else and that goes for anybody there are skinny people who are binge eating definitely not healthy and it doesn’t make it OK because they are thin

The addiction excuse is defeatist behavior used to prolong laziness and manipulation. I used opioids for a few years and went through the rehab circuit multiple times and saw just an endless rotation of low lives who used the words "addiction" and "disease" to justify their bad behavior for 20 plus years. I decided one day I didn't want to be a loser and guess what I stopped and anyone else can as well! Hè is a fat gluttonous pig and the quicker he accepts that the quicker he can stop living in denial and actually be a father to his children. I have ZERO sympathy for this kind of behavior.

Why feel guilty??! You continue to eat enough calories for a family of four & you haven’t changed 1 thing! 🙄

Going by his size and others we have seen on the show he's incredibly mobile and is complaining very little (how much must it hurt to move around that much weight) however I don't know if the kids are enough if motivation to change, it's not like the kids weren't there when he gained the weight

Y’all are wild on these cmnts.. obesity is a DRUG like cigarettes It’s hard to just STOP. The man KNOWS he’s wrong, KNOWS he’s overweight and holds his own family back… y’all don’t think he KNOWS this? How much it HURTS HIS SOUL…. Y’all need to fr stfu. If this was YOUR OWN FAMILY you wouldn’t be here acting so HARSH.

For every person on this show, there's a minimum of 1-2 people enabling them to stay that way by giving in and bringing them excessive amounts of food. If you can't do anything that should include buying groceries and eating 10,000+ cals a day to maintain 700lbs, shouldn't it? Guy can't physically go to the store, shop, unload groceries, cook the food, but he can sit there and eat it. People around them need to take some accountability and put their foot down and this wouldn't happen.

Why would you give him basically an entire fried chicken? All of the people in this show are enablers big time! Plus look at the amount of potatoes!

To get started, all he would have to do is change from fried everything to baked everything. There are lots of ways to pull back from 10k calories a day.

It is sad to see any addict lean so heavily on their family for support-while they continue in active addiction as well as having have the family prepare the drug of choice.. The wife and children in this situation have forgone a normal life to care for this man; while he continues to eat and throw tantrums 😢
