The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Man the topwater pdl is awesome. I got one a month ago, and I am so impressed with it. It’s got the 2 grooves to put rods in under the seat for quick access, so thats 5 rods at hand, then I put a crate with 3 more rod holders. I take 8 rods when I fish kayak bass tourneys. Im also super impressed with their lifetime hull warranty and 5 yr drive warranty. I was looking at jacksons, hobies, etc, and the price-point vs features plus the warranty sold me. At my old town dealer, a guy was in there when i bought mine who was picking up his replacement topwater pdl. He had a scupper cart that wouldnt fit well, so he stomped down on his kayak to try and force it in the holes and it cracked his hull right on edge of scupper hole. It was abuse, and def his fault for breaking it, but old town sent him a brand new topwater with a brand new pedal drive for free. He just had to turn the broken one into the dealer, which they told him to destroy, they didnt want it back. I dont know about the old drive, wether that had to go back or not. My point is, their warranty is best in the industry.

Quick tip. When in tight spaces, use the oar to maneuver around. Same thing when it comes to shallow water where you could damage the prop.
@misterfini66625 жыл бұрын

I keep muskie-release tools in my boat/bag. They can be surprisingly helpful in other situations. 11" pliers are good for unhooking turtles without risking your fingers. And hook cutters (aka mini bolt-cutters) can be a life-saver if you put a hook in your hand, esp. if the other hook is attached to something, like an old rope or a flopping fish.

Time to build a kayak box and get some rod leashes to secure your rods and new net. ;-) Get two milk crates, cut the bottom out of one to use as a top and secure it with a couple of zip ties as hinges. If you want to lose less "almost caught" fish, use a heavier rod. You'll have a little less casting distance with light lures like a Ned rig, but get a much better hookset on big bass. Medium power or higher if you're fishing an area you know to have bigguns.
