Thought we would have some fun in this episode today! So I challenged Aurelia (Judo 1st Dan) to a Judo match! Both me and Mike are Judo white belts, our goals are trying to defend as many throws as possible.
I tried to use what I learned in the previous episode to prevent her from taking me down. Let's see how this goes!
Check out her Instagram:

Finally, don't forget to subscribe my channel to continue support my work!
Thank you all!

You allow her to beat you to the inside grip(s) almost every time; she (or opponent) will always have better control, especially for takedowns with insinde control. Lesson learned through BJJ training; you want inside control; although, looking a 2nd time her collar grip does shift from lapel to behind your neck/shoulder area, seems to also be a great control grip-position. Pummel, swim; try if able to shed get her to change her grips. Awesome material, coach! Good lessons learned.

@@Sam_Iamknot I’m a judo brown belt under a former Olympian and bjj blue belt under a world champion, and in general inside control is good but GOOD EYE on the high collar grip. My judo coach says if he gets that grip on anyone it’s time to take them to the “butcher shop” haha. He’s 60 with a pacemaker and 30% use of his heart but will close his eyes and beat our Junior national and 2nd at nationals champion. Another tip to stop a judo player is a cross grip. In judo you can’t use a cross lapel grip for more than 3 seconds, so holding that grip with bjj rules with a stiff arm can stop more attacks than you’d believe. Also a counter throw called tani otoshi is EXCELLENT for any turning throw by your opponent.

First of all, you should wear a white belt if you are a white belt. At least the size of your Gi seems to be according to the rules in contrast to her Gi. In this thing she would be disqualified before even stepping on the Tatami in any official contest. Next time you could try to defend at least a little bit, because it´s obvious for anybody who has done Judo for a while that you don´t even try.

I’m a brown belt in judo and blue belt in bjj at separate gyms. It is INCREDIBLE what each does to fill where the other lacks. In judo I wreck everyone in newaza (groundwork), and in my last 3 bjj competitions I took down all but one opponent in both gi and no gi. I’m pretty good standing in judo and pretty good on the ground in bjj, nothing special though. Cross training provides a unique advantage in both arts that is unbelievable. Loved this video!

Awesome man, my background is in WC and Judo, and I'm new at BJJ, but you ran into a buzzsaw there, weight classes matter more in Judo than BJJ, and she's got the perfect judo build, strong, lean, and long legs. From what I've seen so many BJJ guys have learned some wrestling so they use that low crouching stance but they aren't actual wrestlers so many don't know how to attack singles, sweep singles and such, and if you're not attacking from that stance you're giving the judoka your back which is where 90% of her shots came. But letting a judoka get grips coming over the back or even Georgian grips that's all red meat.

The trick with a stiff armed opponent is really 2 fold. 1) Dominate the grips initially so that they cant stiff arm, and if that fails and they do establish a negative grip 2) turn them to neutralize it It does take quite an experienced Judoka to be comfortable working against stiff arms,

from my own experience, as a judoka who has been practicing since before leg grabs were banned, if someone shoots for my legs it's pretty easy to be able to back out of it, but if they do grab one or even both legs, it's a choice between twisting around to do an uchi mata, sacrifice throw straight back with Sumi gaeshi. if the sacrifice throw doesn't work, then you can go ahead and go back, try to take the guillotine.
@wrestlingjudoms1302

@@SeanWinters I know exactly what you're talking about many of my Sensei's have been competing when leg attacks were still allowed. And sometimes we goof around on the mats. The thing is I'm still competing in freestyle wrestling and I have a degree of experience in how to utilize leg attacks against Judokas. I never shoot in blindly without set up and I've noticed that Judokas bite on fake shots pretty hard lol. So I would circle add in a couple of fakes and then shoot in for a low single or ankle pick. Blast doubles on the other hand almost never work against experience Judokas because once they've got a grip of the gi you're going through the ceiling lol. Either way it's fun to cross train.
@SeanWinters
@SeanWinters 2 жыл бұрын
@@wrestlingjudoms1302 You're 100% correct, taking leg grabs away from competition has indeed left judoka open for fakes, and that has absolutely become a big hurdle in cross training. That's a great strategy, thanks for the tip and things I should look for!

In judo everyone fights upright in a “natural posture” even short people. The typical standing BJJ stance where it’s not fully deep like a wrestler and not fully upright, is actually very poor when it comes to fighting a Judoka as they are looking to pull you forward and break your posture anyway. Size difference matter a lot. Also guys were not aggressive and just letter her get over the back grip? Wish guys at my gym were this size lol

Their grip fighting hurt them - she got dominant grips and they couldn't fight them off so they were constantly on the defensive. Dominant grips = Good position on your feet.

I know she’s taller, but she doesn’t look all that larger-she threw them so bloody easily, she looked like it was no effort for her

My humbled white belt opinion... If your chest is facing into a Judoka's shoulder there's a +90% chance you're going for a ride... If your chest is facing directly into a Judoka's chest then there's a 49% chance you're going for a ride... lol. Try your best to keep their shoulder out of your chest.

to be honest, I think many people have a natural tendency to undermine Aurelia's accomplishments due to her appearance but at the end of the day, the color doesn't lie... she also trains striking too, no joke
