Thanks for giving us an insight into this competition and you should be proud of being one of the top 20 speed windsurfers in the world. Would love to hear more about how you think about gear, skill and the lucky gust. And also a review about your new GPS watch would be interesting to me.

Congrats to your great placing! ☺ and good job on the narration-- special thanks for giving the women's race some attention, too, this kind of validation in a sport dominated by men makes speed surfing seem a lot more attractive to other female surfers 👍☺

I am facinated how all of you are handeling these sail sizes with 50 kts(!) of wind. Last weekend (June 6th) there was 30-35Kts on Strand Horst (Netherlands), and with my 80Kg I was having serious trouble in properly managing 5.0 (and was substantially slower than when there is less wind). Any tips (next to getting fat & heavy ;-) which I’m trying to avoid). Maybe Weight vest, strength training or some other secret ingredients? Great content, big thanks for sharing!🎉

Question - why do most surfers in the video walk their gear back to the starting line? 800m is a long stretch. Why not surf back to the starting line slightly away from the beach, even if it means crossing upwind a bit?
@simongodfrey37656 ай бұрын
Great video Nils and yes please for the follow up video about improving. Question - why are you sailing upwind sometimes and other times walking? Is it about the wind angle? Also - if there's a line of people walking back up the speed course, doesn't it affect how clean the wind is for the guy sailing the course?
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
a bit about wind angle yes, also sailing up costs a lot more energy than quickly walking back up, sometimes i feel it's better to walk up and start the next run with a heartrate of around 90 instead of sailing back up and starting the next run with a heartrate of 140. Yes it affects the wind a little bit if a lot of people are walking up, but not that badly...
@captainashcam6 ай бұрын
Super impressive result, congrats. What kind of technique do you need for speed runs, or is it a case of “hook in and hang on” ?
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
lots of little details, body tension, positioning, etc... will make the video ;)
@nicke146 ай бұрын
It seems like you (and Mario in his videos) don't have the harness lines in the middle between your hands, but further back (or hands further forward). Do the point 7 sails have more back hand pressure than other sails?
@freddowns97086 ай бұрын
Love to see something on stance, body position and how you would change based on your video review. Is your speed being calculated by gps or static timing ? Any other locations in Europe to visit for speed sailing ? Visiting from Australia in July 2025. Thinking Fuertraventura for 2 weeks ?
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
fuerte is not the fastest but for sure good to get some wind. all other spots work more on a forecast and not that consistently.
@rcggijzen6 ай бұрын
I can imagine walking back along the beach 800m after every run is quite exhausting. Is that easier than sailing back upwind? Allowed to use a caddy like in Luderitz?
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
sailing is exhausting as well as you have to go far outside around the buoys of the course to not disturb anyone on the speed run, with a tiny speed needle that is also rough, so i mostly walked one run, sailed one run back and forth...

When you fly the board, is it simply just trying to minimize wetted surface ie just ride on the tail of the board?

About the effect of weight and height on speed; what were Heidi's speeds compared to for example yours? I imagine she has a physical disadvantage, being relatively short and light? Are weight vests allowed?
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
she does, but makes up for it with excellent stance and technique, yes weight vests are allowed, almst everyone had some lead in the back. I left my weight vest at home 🤦♂️
@thierryguerin19776 ай бұрын
Well done 👍 how does it feel compare to Luderitz ?

@WindsurfGenerationX6 ай бұрын
Better will be a Shuttle Service.
@WindsurfingNils6 ай бұрын
it's allowed, you just have to surf around the outside of the buoys of the competition zone as to not disturb anyone on the run, sailing far out in the chop on a 45cm speed needle is a challenge in and off itself.
@suelinton34536 ай бұрын
So that speed is the average over 500m?
@ThomasWessel-ny5ew6 ай бұрын
You are sailing with your back insteads of your legs. Use a waistharness on your hip with two strings between legs. Lines go straight out anyway. Hipharness. 10% more efficeint rig and board feels wider. Sorry I didnt tell you before, but well.. dont be a sheep and follow everybody else. Good luck.

Not so much finding out who is the fastest one and for all, but who is the fastest each year ... Sorry mate, but you sound like "Fox News" there ! Hopefully you will be able to come back next year and finish within the top 3 🙂 You're doing everything for it. I got into speed sailing because of you. I loved speed but I'd never gone out to actually go as fast as myself or my equipment allowed before. I just had fun = Funboarding ... No worries - I'm far behind you but I do get some scary runs in. Would be interesting to know what equipment you used. Fin size for example and is it asymmetrical ? Well done for your position. 3rd German not bad.
