The first case is why I love and hate Yu-Gi-Oh at the same time. The weird interactions where certain cards CAN work while others can't, even though they might be worded almost the exact same way. Even the judges themselves are stumped sometimes! We really need an official rulebook/ruling website on this crap lol.

unfortunately a lot of the rules stem from the way Grammar works. So your rule book would just consist of English Textbooks on sentence structure. (man i feel bad for translators)

MTG has official rulings but it still doesn't even come close to covering every interaction that can happen. It can help resolve something quickly but really you just have to understand how interactions work on a fundamental level so you can solve any interaction you come across otherwise your official rulings page will be bigger than the entirety of Wikipedia.

@@DragoonZell that's not what a ruling document is or would be. Ruling documents in most card games give examples of various card interactions (unfortunately most other card games STARTED or very soon after release made their ruling documents so it's a bit late for it) and their official rulings. They would have legitimately hundreds if not thousands of rulings in the document that you would be able to cite and would cover every single possible interaction (or an example of a form of them to reference). So judges would never be confused as they could go "for this ruling I'm citing the ruling documents 165.5c which says that in this situation you would do X and then Y" and both players would be able to look at the official ruling documents, find that ruling, and know exactly why that interaction works that way and know it is official and not just this singular judge's opinion on how it works.

I've played A LOT of stuff like commander (where undoubtedly the MOST strange interactions happen) and pretty much every ruling i've ever needed has been in the official ruling document. They cover pretty much 90% of interactions. It may not cite the EXACT cards you're using but it will still cover interactions outside those cards that is essentially worded identically. Also knowing how fundamental mechanics/interactions work? That's ALSO is supposed to be in the comprehensive rules of the game which is yet another thing you can cite. Yugioh has LITERALLY nothing other than OCG rulings to help judges have official documentation to reference for rulings which makes every single ruling in the game an opinion as the OCG functions differently and isn't a 1 to 1 with the TCG. Hence why there have been so many funky interactions that judges in various big events have ruled differently which has made entire decks unable to do certain legal plays in the past.

Hey distant. Rikka player here. I had that same interaction come up before. I checked the OCG ruling base and it says that It does not matter what type it for tributing on opponents field. It is iffy because there are no plants but he can legally activate it because he can just search for one plant, but since kon kon is on field he CAN tribute an opponents monster. As long as he has 2 plant monsters with same lvl but diff names. So you ruled that correctly. ❤

Sorry, it's a 6 months old comment and I haven't actually been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! for many years, but I also made a comment about this interaction and would like to hear your opinion on it, I paste my other comment below, which I just sent as it's own comment before seeing yours: For the plant tribute issue, it says "if you would Tribute a Plant monster you control", to me, this very clearly means "if you were about to tribute a plant type monster you control", meaning, if I don't have one, I wouldn't be about to tribute it, since it's not there. For the meaning you went with, the wording should've been like "If a "Rikka" card or effect requires you to Tribute a Plant monster you control".

I've never even heard of a program that forces caps lock on. Generally if something requires caps to be on for whatever reason, it just prevents lowercase from being typed at all/converts automatically to caps.

I can see why people dont like DB anymore. I mean im sure some people would die for it but every game is full of people trying to pull off some one time combo or play some bottom of the barrel archetypes. Not to mention most of these scenarios end up in judge calls and those can take ages at times. I much prefer the simulators like MD where the game plays itself for you, no need for judge intervention and no need to sit around and wait for an opening to duel. You pick up the game and play a few quick duels, not spend 30 minutes in a queue before spending 2 hours in a duel cause one guy has to read every card you play and call a judge every time he isnt sure on the ruling

The confusion was that in Konkon's card text it said that if they would tribute a PLANT monster to activate a Rikka card or effect. Konkon changes the cost of tributing 1 plant monster(s) into any monster(s) on the field. Zombie World makes all monsters on the field and GY a zombie-type. They thought that the cost of Glamour couldn't be fulfilled because there are no plant monsters currently on the field.

I think 'caps lock on is annoying' is not a good reason to force this guy to turn them off. What if he wasn't doing anything wrong? Just force him to turn off caps lock just because it's annoying? That's ridiculous. Sure it's annoying, but at least come up with a decent reason other than it's annoying. He wasn't even spamming. He wasn't breaking any rules as far as I'm concerned, it's just that he was playing at work irresponsibly and Coder just wanted him to turn them off because it was a complaint. Not a good complaint if he wasn't doing anything wrong, the cheating of course is different.
