I hated the way the women shamed Charlotte on her birthday She looked absolutely stunning and was trying to celebrate - branching away from her usual style was her way of having fun in a place designed for fun and silliness It was so gross that her friends had to stoop so low as to call her slutty The poor woman has literally just been through a divorce

i think it's a classic case of everyone in a group going through something, and forcing a "fun" situation, thereby causing a group meltdown where NOBODY can be there for anyone else. i have witnessed this happen soooooooo many times and i love the writer's take on how it effected this group.

I don’t know if it was because SJP was pregnant, but her acting really changed the most in this season. Carrie became a full blown asshole. I can’t believe how mean she was to both Charlotte and Samantha at different points. Also, SJP cranked up the overacting. She was extra squealy and shrill and screechy. I really don’t understand, except to say, I’m pregnant right now too and I know hormones are a bitch! 😂 Agree with you Kasia with her being overly quirky and odd.

after having listened to not one but two seasons of the podcast that accompanies the Sex and the City reboot, I can tell you that Michael Patrick King is a fan of overacting, and he constantly pushes those actresses to do more and be bigger on screen. so, i suspect that he's the reason why SJP's acting was so over-the-top this season

@@KasiaSopniewska Great point. MPK really wants a certain tonality. Unfortunately, I feel like Kristin, Cynthia, and Kim could go big and still stay in character. SJP doesn’t seem to be able to do that, but maybe it’s more noticeable because she’s in more scenes. Your theory that HBO demanded Carrie become more relatable probably is true and could explain why she sometimes felt like an alternative reality version of the Carrie from seasons 1 and even 2.

It's a great theory, and it never even occured to me. I always thought the hate for Jack Berger was because he was a LOT like Carrie, although no one would admit it. They are both writers, insecure, self-deprecating, and you get the feeling neither one feels really secure about their place in the world in terms of finances. Berger has all this stuff that someone with one unsuccessful book would NEVER have--a house in the Hamptons, a motorcycle, etc. Carrie has $40,000 worth of shoes and basically was stupid about her apartment situation. She finally got some more paying work, but still. It's not just the shoes, it's ALL the designer clothes, and lunches and dinners and going to clubs and so forth. How the HELL did she afford it before her book deal? How did Berger afford all that stuff on one unsuccessful novel? Remember, his publisher dropped him just as Carrie's career was taking off. No wonder the guy felt insecure!

Your theory about Berger makes sense. I know I'm in the minority here, but the guy got dropped from his publisher. Of course he was upset about it. What if the roles had been reversed and Carrie got dropped from HER publisher? At least when Berger said he couldn't do it, he left and stayed GONE. He didn't come boomeranging back into Carrie's life. Yes, it was a shitty way to leave, via post it note--but hear me out. Does anyone else think the Post It note breakup was an homage to Ron Livingston's breakout role in Office Space? The movie poster featured someone covered in Post It notes. I'm thinking that was the writers' way of acknowledging Livingston's past success in a clever way.

Every video from you feels like a present!!! I used to dislike this season, but now that i’m older I adore it. The added context that 9/11 happened before the filming is crucial for broader context. The season feels off because NYC felt off, and to continue as normal would’ve been a disservice. Plus all the characters are reacting to huge life changes, all in very accurate ways. Mary Brady is EXTREMELY accurate. I have met that woman a million times over. It’s so important to Miranda’s development that her and Mary never really connect. It makes Miranda’s eventual sacrifices for Mary that much more impactful next season. Also, Burger is a trust fund kid through and through. Not Trey old money but like his parents became rich right before he was born money. It explains why he so desperately wants to be a cool, progressive man and winds up being bratty and insecure. So excited for season 6!!!!

I like this season too and it also feels transitional to me. I think that maybe because SJP would have a baby she decided to show less skin in the future (?). Because during the argument with Samantha she says that she is old now and she covers herself up more than in the past. Maybe that make it the right time to create one more fight between Sam and one of the girls for the former's promiscuity.

The bachelor pad scene was cringy but it was what Charlotte needed. She had just gotten out of a marriage with a man who wasn't even sexually attracted to her and didn't seem to be sensitive to her struggles with infertility (the cardboard baby) In comes Harry who tells her she's a literal goddess, Trey was an idiot, and that if she was in his bed he wouldn't let her go. She was desired and appreciated. Its also in Harrys character to speak his mind openly even if it means coming off brash. If SATC was a more serious show, this scene probably would have played out differently but it was the start of Charlottes true development

You hit the nail on the head, girl. People can identify with Carrie, whether they want to or not. It may be the parts that aren't so great, but those traits and behaviors are far more common than anybody wants to believe or admit.

The cover girl argument is about the writting change in Carries character, she was supossed to be more open but afyer pilot the only one sexu4l explorer is Samantha! And that goes on and on becoming Carrie a hopeless romantic! And codependent!

Miranda should have never settled wirh Steve. He made her christan her son when she is an atheist. He also never supported her, and actually, she didn't want a baby and to be a single mum. I don't blame Sam, she was the only one who said it how it was. She knew that Miranda was most like her. They were the 2 rationale, strong independent women in the group. Miranda was the one who called out the BS, and she herself then screws up her own life by having a baby with a practical hobo red flag. As someone who is judgemental like Miranda, I'd be just like Sam, thinking wtf has happened to my son. IRL one of my friends was a real bad ass until she decided to have a baby and marry a looser, now she doesn't work and is a mess with no confidence.

I find it scary when people say they relate to Carrie, lol, because which part??? And have you seen season 3?? And I think Nina's deaction to Carrie was accurate. She did real damage to that man, he shouldn't have gotten back with her, but the majority of the blame is with her.

As a mother who suffered baby blues I loved how motherhood was portrayed through Miranda. It was so raw and real, how you don't feel like yourself anymore. I also liked that Carrie focused on her career. She has a great style and haircut but she was insufferable in some episodes especially critical condition. I agree with you she's flawed and she could be funny, stylish, she's here for Miranda but she's also so self centered. For instance sh came to see Miranda, that's nice, just to talk about her... Smh. I love Charlotte and Harry's couple. Charlotte knows what she wants and opens up to Harry, she's stubborn but is okay to make compromise because she loves him and he respects her and challenges her. Sam is fabulous aways the way she stood up for herself with the bj to the delivery guy.

This was oddly one of my favorite seasons in the series. Though it is often considered the worst, I feel it had a lot of tear jerking moments in it. Each of the episodes seemed to have a more storybook ending to it with a moral, or a realization.

It’s funny the fifth season is the most disliked bc it’s the season I’m most familiar with 😂 so all those episodes mean a great deal to me ❤ I couldn’t tell you much of anything about the seasons before or after except Carrie’s boyfriends and Natasha’s tooth.

The only issue with your berger therory is that his ex cheated on him and thats why they broke up. Hence the double middle finger to his machine. But your theory could still work its just he didnt really break up with her because she was more successful than him. She just was a cheater

5:15 Miranda chose to be a single mother. I never felt sorry for her whatsoever. She constantly pushed Steve away in the beginning. I never liked this character. And hated her even more after the first Sex and the City movie. She ignored her husband for 6 months. Stopped having sex with him for 6 months and blamed it on her job, her family life, her sick mother in law, and play dates for Brady... as if Steve wasn't there to help her. AND THEY HAD A NANNY !!! A wife shouldn't ignore her husband just like a husband shouldn't ignore his wife. So many times, she put him last. Was he perfect? Hell No! But he sure as hell deserved better than her. Carrie and Miranda were the ones I disliked the most. I can't stand those two.
