I'm an engineer, and even I have zero interest in screwing around with computer hardware. Zero. I buy cool stuff and I expect it to just work. If it has me going to a second location beyond a driver installation, I'm out. My time is too valuable. You have to literally pay me to troubleshoot, I'm not going to pay for a thing and then troubleshoot it myself. This isn't the 80s and 90s. Companies should have enough of an engineering knowledge base to make things that work out of the box. 7950X3D is a hardware hobbyist chip and it should have been marketed that way.

To be fair the 12700k was a dumpster fire at launch with the ecores on. I strugged so bad with no hitregs in Pubg. It took some effort to figure out how to turn the damn ecores off and pump up the cache speed to 5Ghz. Most people dont think they can understand hardware so they never even try. When I reference the blurbusters site they just roll their eyes and keep loosing with their 40fps 0.1%lows system. Is not the i7-12700K's fault, it's the game (Denuvo DRM). Portal 2 on my Intel UHD770 on very high runs with more than extra 100fp than CSGO and unlike CSGO, Portal 2 has real fully functional physics so it should be more CPU intensive. I force -20 threads on CSGO launch options from Steam, the game crashes, on Portal 2 (which is a 2011 game) it can use all of my cores because it doesn't have Denuvo and anything of that.

13900K also has a problem. More like a windows 11 issue, so in windows 11 the old power plan (control panel) "high performance" has no threads scheduling and assigns games to E-cores. You will need to use the "balanced" power plan to get correct scheduling. But there is a problem with steamVR. When steamVR is launched it will automatically change the power plan to "high performance", seems smart but turns out to be dumb. I kept having stuttering problems when playing VR CHAT and heavily modded beat saber. And this is solved after I deleted the old control panel "high performance" power plan so that steamVR can't do anything stupid and then changed the new windows 11 settings power plan to "best performance". Everything became smooth after that. I blame mainly Microsoft for having two different sets of UI (control panel and settings) controlling the same thing (power plan) but having opposite effects. I also blame Valve for trying to be smart. This is no way I can figure out that it is the power plan that was changed by steamVR just by myself. I really appreciate the guy who made a video pointing out and explaining this thing.

Reason why AMD can't differ their cores and CCDs is because AMD CPUs have no proper hardware level thread scheduler, while Intel has hardware level microcontroller handling scheduling... Intel's way is far superior. Just like Nvidia's way of accelerating ray tracing with actual ray tracing cores is superior to AMD's gimmicky software ray tracing. Software never beats dedicated specialized hardware. AMD never learned their lesson.

Yuck two six core ccds . I never understood why people bought that cpu for gaming when the 5800X was a eight core ccd with minimal infinity fabric issues because it was just one chiplet. Then if you wanted more you bought a 5950X and had two chiplets and welcomed back the pain in the butt era of dual processor systems. But with dual processors you at least spread the heat around and had twice the surface area for cooling.
@h1tzzYT
@h1tzzYT Жыл бұрын
@@natalie2070 5900x performance varies per game basis, some dont like two ccd's and some actually like it, or more like its extra 32mb l3 cache. Overall 5800x and 5950x have better frametime consistency. dual ccd cpu's are far from dual cpu config, thats not how it works. Also your remark about heat is mostly incorrect, for most use cases windows scheduler will cram all the workload to first ccd making it actually harder to cool in workloads which utilizes 2-8 cores than cpu's with single ccd.

I love your content, and typically I follow all of your points of view. I’m a little confused by this video though, in light of your older content. You used to be all about “only the fastest”. The fastest didn’t mean the fastest out of the box, just slap it in and go - it was whatever the fastest was after doing all of the tweaking that was required to get it there. You were always clear that it was just for the games, and that you weren’t a hardcore OC’er in that, you had a real goal for why you wanted the fastest. But still, that was your thing. You also differentiated your content from the mainstream tech media in that you didn’t just slap in some random RAM, turn on XMP, and then run benchmarks with stock configurations. You compared max’d hardware configs to max’d hardware configs. Now you’re saying you don’t want to take the time to max config the 7950x3d? I agree, it should just work, and it’s not like I’m getting one or anything (I’m fine with my current rig), but the take just confused me a bit in light of some of your other takes in the past. Could just be missing part of the conversation, and this doesn’t change the fact that I trust your points of view on hardware more than pretty much anyone else out there right now, but just wanted to mention this since it came to mind when watching this video.

I have wasted so much time dealing with AMD's broken software over the past few years, my next build will definitely be Intel. It's the same reason I've stuck with nVidia for so long, it just works.

@@vincentvega3093 No, just AMD problems. It took them 3 years to fix the myriad of major BIOS issues with their x570 platform, some of which AMD refused to even acknowledge for many months, and they're still rolling out updates to this day to address less serious problems.

I agree 100% you should have the option of it just working but that said I would also like the option to tweak some things if I want to and have time for it especially if it's something quick and easy like a small memory and CPU OC that you can do 1 time and forget about it. I have a 9900k and 6800xt system that I'm happy with the performance but the AMD bugs are annoying me and I would like the new Nvidia video upscaling thingy and I have a 3070 as well, recently saw a vid about a dual GPU system running both Nvidia and AMD GPUs so I thought I'd give it a try, use the 3070 as primary so get rid of most of the bugs, get the vid upscaling and have the option to still use the 6800xt for some games, got a 1200W PSU so power is not a problem. Did you ever try that and would you advise against it?

The Just works is why nvidia can sell a GPU for more. 2hrs counts as the whole day in my book. Between the job and shit I have to do when I get home I might only get 2hrs to game on the weekends. So I’m with you, tweaking is fine, I like my rig to run as fast as possible, BUT I expect to start with a working system. Even disabling E-cores, that’s like min-maxing tweaking, do you need it? No, 2-3% ain’t going to be a game breaker, that’s just something to do when you have spare time and don’t feel like gaming. To FAFO just to get the damn thing to post and then worry about lasso and shit, nahhhh I paid them, they ain’t paying me, rather stay at work OT and get paid than to do that crap. I’m a nerd and an enthusiast, but my pleasure is in tweaking, not fixing what is supposed to be a new product. Would you treat a brand new car like that? Ohhhh just go around and re-torque all the bolts bro, it’s not that bad there are only 1500 of them. No, you take that shit back and buy what works. A Toyota. At the end of the day all your FAFOing is short lived, as soon as the new gen comes out you’re not at the top. Really it’s a wasted effort. 5min to enable xmp, boost core voltage to 1.3, lock cores to max turbo and e to 4.3, ring to 4.3, is worth it. Anything more than that, waste of your time. AMD is a waste of your time completely. Jank crap at similar prices - or in this case higher prices.

I do music production which is LIGHTYEARS more CPU intensive than gaming. I bought my i7-12700K DDR5 specifically for the Thread Director and the perfomance for the money at the time. Literally i use an audio latency of 1.3ms, pretty constant, imagine a game with 770fps 1% lows. On audio, anything beyond 5 ms is noticiable for recording.

@@tommypearson9260 E-cores also have a place in games, Portal 2 runs way faster than CSGO for me, it can use all of my 12 cores at least when creating a Test Chamber map, it has shorter loading times as well. Unlike CSGO, Portal 2 has real fully functional physics. On Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042 128 player mode, the thermals and 1% lows are very good on 12 core chips. Ryzen 9 5900X is also excelent for both. They hit all of the CPU very hard.
