I cut open the oil filter that was installed on my engine when I did the break-in run to inspect the metal particles inside. I wanted to make sure there weren't too many particles, and that they weren't big enough to cause concern. This is a task that is regularly performed on aviation engines but is much less common on automotive engines.

Good advice sir. That’s why John Deere trained us to run fresh diesel tractor engines on dyno runs after about 20 min initial start up.

I didn't know that about John Deere, but it makes sense. Thanks for watching!

Great video as usual. I always use a Filtermag or other magnet i came across on the oilfilter. I also use magnet on the drainplug. Regards from Sweden.

That's a great idea! I use a magnetic drain plug and I have a magnet in the bottom of the oil pan, but I haven't used one on the oil filter before. Maybe I'l start doing that too. Thanks for watching!

almost done with my 347 and will certainly be nervous at first start-up as well as this step. 1st engine build ever and hoping all goes well.

I honestly lost count of how many engines that I've built, but I still get nervous before the first start. There are just so many small details to think about that you can't help but wonder if you've missed something. Take your time, double check everything, and best of luck!!
