"I'd Rather Go Blind" is a Blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1968, and has subsequently become regarded as a blues and soul classic.
This is the version played by Gov't Mule. Simply amazing!

I have loved this song from the first time I heard it.....It was a long time ago. I am 74 years old and have been blessed to have lived in an era when the most beautiful songs were written. Every time I listen it gives me goosebumps. Every version is great...of course Etta James for giving birth to this masterpiece. Beth Hart is awesome and Beyonce gives you the shivers when they perform this piece and not to forget Koko Taylor cover, but Warren just breaths soul and heart into it.............what a beautiful performance!

It was hearing Warren’s playing on By A Thread that inspired me to pick up a guitar. I had played bass for years in other peoples working bands, but when I heard Warren, it was a light bulb moment. Knew I had to do something for myself. Coming on 10 years now, I’ve been “impersonating a guitarist” :-) It’s all about making songs your own. Too many soulless performances of covers. I’d rather do someone else’s song in my own peculiar style.

@ReyegAwee - As a former club performer & lifelong musician, I not only heartily agree, but I can tell you, "drunks in clubs are a buncha rude f*cks." David Crosby famously (during a performance here in Seattle at the Paramount theater) told the ass hats in the audience who were hooting & hollering "Shut the hell UP! Or WE'RE LEAVING! There are people here who paid good money who can't hear BECAUSE OF YOUR OBNOXIOUS ASSES!" My friend who was there said "People shut UP & showed some respect." RIP David Crosby. I wish US audiences weren't such a bunch of rude asses. But "wish in one hand & crap in the other & see which one fills up 1st."

@@patriciapage2109 hi Patricia, Thanks for your comments. Our weather seems to on the turn already and summer not over!!! The whole world is in Covid crisis - who knows what will happen here this winter. I have had beer recently now our pubs are allowed to open- so cheers and beers to you. As for Politicians well the less said the better. They don't change much wherever in the world. Big businesses run the world really, and Politicians, who could make a difference, soon have their snouts in the trough to make sure they are ok - not us

The first few bars are scrambled. After that, it rolls smoothly along. So, it's far from perfect, but still a joy to listen to. Once Warren gets in the pocket, it's like syrup. His song, Endless Parade, was the one that made me dig into Govt. Mule. This was a jewel to find.

I actually heard this song for the first time driving through Muscle Shoals, AL. Had no clue who Etta James was, but I had the internet and KZbin. The experience blew me away and turned me into a lifelong blues fan. I’m a truck driver and I’ve been all over the South. Many of the small Mississippi basin towns have a sign as you drive in and they are very proud of their musician sons and daughters. Nowadays, I read the name and immediately hop online to listen to their music. You cannot imagine the rapture I’ve experienced this way. Government Mule plays the best covers, IMO.

@@Jamie-js3qw No it’s not a Fleetwood Mac ‘original’ song, although they might also have done a cover of it too, but I haven’t heard one. If you look at the title on the description, it does say ‘Etta James cover’ by Gov’t Mule. * The one that Beth Hart does with Joe Bonanzas is really good too - however both are very different treatments and styles of playing and singing - but really worth watching/listening to the 👍 performance imo (and I’m VERY picky about the music I listen to!) . Hopefully you’ll give Joe and Beth’s version a try and enjoy their 🎸🎤 - duet like me!
