You did the right thing for you and Apollo. 👍 I never rode with a crowd. I worked a very public job back in the '90's when I had my horse. I met and saw loads of people on a daily basis. I understand the camaraderie with fellow horse enthusiasts can be nice on a trail ride but for me being alone with my beautiful and spunky Arab was the absolute best! I cherished the time with him alone on the trails. Those were the happiest years of my life!

Smartest thing you did was to head home, much to slow for you and poor Apollo. He so much wanted to go faster. Everyone must learn sometime and starting out slow is best for a novice class horse and rider. You and Apollo are in a much higher class. Still a lovely 😊 ride, as long as you stayed away from the kickers. Hope you got back ok 👌. Love you guys Tara & Rens as well as Boss Man Apollo, Handsome Farouk & Lovely Bella too.

As disappointing as this ride was, you did the right thing. Hunter pleasure is just that, not as leisure,, which is a different type of ride and would still involve cantering, or even a lope, which is what Apollo was semi doing. A good brisk ride tomorrow on heartbreak hill tomorrow's ride will set things right again. Your outlook was right, this was never a hunt pleasure, and should have been rectified at the start, so a different plan could be had with expectations given. Hunting, pleasure. You have a right to your expectations and feelings. Have fun on tomorrow's ride!

Agreed. This wasn't even a novice, as it seems more of a stroll and chat for the gals. Don't see how it did anything for their horses. Sorry this was a perfect example of what HRH Princess Anne said about riders learning today, no matter what their age. They buy a horse after learning to walk trot and canter in a school. They ride in indoor schools when it's wet. They have never ridden outdoors in all terrains. As a kid ...I'm 64....we spent evergreen and school holiday out on the ponies. We ballooned in open countryside...we fell off...we got back on...hopefully! They used to say You had to fall off 3 times before you could ride. Remember that.?😹😹😹 I've fallen off face down in mud...muck heap and even once into the canal😹😹😹😹 I've broken everything in a lifetime of horses. But as an adult I hardly ever fell off cos I had a really solid seat. Princess Anne was right....riding is not just in a menage...or an indoor covered school. Story.....many years ago I helped teach Sean Bean to ride. He'd taken the role of Sharpe...lying😹😹 saying he could ride. He coukdnt. He came every day and worked like hell...he fell off every single day for almost a week...then...he got it and with sheer grit and determination very quickly became a brilliant rider with a really good seat. He's a kind, soft spoken man, very shy. Horses took to him....no yelling...no drama....except in Sharpe!😂 buoy can't ride if you don't go out regularly...sorry went on a bit!

I don't mind a slow ride if in the mood, or if you have inexperienced horse or nervous riders, however who ever was in charge of the ride should have grouped everyone together before starting off and tell everyone that due to inexperienced horses and nervous rider that the ride would consist of walking and some trotting only. That way people could decide wether they are wanting to join in or not. But Apollo was such a good boy listening to you even when he wanted to go ❤❤🐎

In complete fairness, I do remember the leader saying they were going to mostly walk but there was so much confusion and milling about at the start it was hard to catch or really know what she meant. I think the leader was trying to do the impossible - a hunt run with riders/horses who had never done that many trails. I mean really, you have someone fall off at the walk... Longest 7 mile hunt run I've ever seen. Good decision to go on your way. ❤❤🤪 you and Rens should find that pub though. 🥂🎀
