I DELETED The TAC Vane Video...
Today we are discussing arrows, vanes and broadheads with Levi Morgan, Josh Jones and engineer Rick Forest. We took down a reaction video that we published last week that raised some eyebrows. Some of the information was wrong and we made some assumptions...
So, we got everyone together to discuss the TACs production and testing protocols. This was a fun conversation and we hope you learn with us! #elkshape #abt ‪@tacvanes‬ ‪@ManimlMindset‬

Might be hard to watch this. Seems, at face value a couple minutes in, there’s a lot whining on one side and walking back on the other. Fact is, TAC vanes are hard to get to stay on a arrow. Everybody knows it. All the primer this, adhesion that, it’s stupid. Somebody from TAC once proudly posted they had 13 pages of FAQ’s regarding their vanes sticking to an arrow on their website. 13 pages?! My response was and is if you need 13 PAGES to explain gluing a vane to a arrow shaft, the vane is the problem. Hope there isn’t some kiss and make up sponsorship after this. Archery is now just like the rest of the world. Whine and everybody will tap dance for you. Bows with 90% let off for all the weenies, social media influencers all over the place… what’s next?

Good on the 4 of you for coming together to properly get the correct information out to all of us that are interested in improving. I have used Swhacker #207's and the #202 broadheads in the past and getting pass through shots on whitetails. Same thing when I shot Levi's 100gr and 125gr version. No issues other than not having 100% complete confidence like Rick does. There's a chance that 1 or maybe both blades don't deploy correctly. Not likely to happen, but it is possible. A fixed blade takes that variable out of the equation. So, I'm currently back shooting the 125gr Stinger Buzzcut 4 blade. Until I can afford some Iron Will single bevel's. I think pairing some 125gr Iron Will's with some Victory RIP Elite 300's would be a sweet setup.

Levi, didn't like you calling out their BS. I think your video was accurate. DCA was still under represented. Instead, Marekting said, " spin the message and smooth this over". Or a marketing ploy to create a storyline and create more discussion about everyone's products.

Great content, didn’t get to watch the TAC video but I get an idea on what it was about. It’s just amazing how everything needs to be perfect come into place. Personally I haven’t been able to build the right arrows with Tac vanes, but like every product out there just because I couldn’t make them work for me doesn’t mean they don’t perform well for others. That’s the beauty about archery keep tinkering… 🙌🏼

Great way to clear the air and make things right, good solid conversation and back and forth explanations. All 4 of you are standup guys!! Not an elk, but whitetail I shot this year had an entrance hole about 3" across and exit over 2" with full pass through. 25 yards from a treestand 15 feet up with slight quarter away. It went 40 yards and Ray Charles could track it.

I'm not gonna say what he looks like . But to keep it as clean as I can. He's not happy about being called out period. Even in their testing video he tried to build stuff up bigger and better , and Levi at least kept it on a level. Me personally, don't think the broadhead is all that, and if you don't get a complete pass through , it will cause tracking issues as mfjj stated. As far as the group testing at 100 yards, blazer was clearly the tighter group, but Rick just kept on talking about how tighter the Tac vane was. Not the case from the pics I saw. But all this is pointless and irrelevant anyway. Who hunts at a 100 yards. I haven't found a vane or a broadhead that wouldn't get the job done for the average whitetail distance of what?, 20, 30 yards. I know the Tac 3.75 is the worst vane I've ever had on an indoor arrow. Even with primer pin and glue, some didn't stick well, and even with them in my quiver , after a couple weeks, the vanes, rippled, bent, and rolled and just looked like crap. I cut them off and went back to the 4" AAE . The vanes or broadheads are clearly just not as superior to everything like they were made out to be. He can sit there blowed up if he likes. But that's just my opinion

I’m glad you’re getting this all squared away. However, I love Tac Vanes. I shoot the 275s with the 4 mm match grade axis however, I mark my arrows with the dynamic spine so all of them come out of the bow exactly the same I can hit the same hole and I give a lot of credit to the Tac Vanes. I’m also running the titanium 50 grain inserts with match grade field points. There is a reason they have a five spot target and this is it. And this has solved the millimeter issue for me. I practice out the 110 but I don’t kill anything past 60.

Dude, I wish you hadn't bent to the whims of Levi Morgan. You are all about united archery not divided. Levi is not. He has proven that time and time again. If he doesn't agree with you, you are blocked, regardless of how respectful you might be. You reviewed the video they launched with a critical lens, and regardless of mistakes being made for inaccuracies or whatever, bottom line is, this guy didn't agree with you, and muscled you into changing your opinions, and bending to his whims. I mean, good for you, which is why I'll never stop following ElkShape, because, you are making things "right" in your eyes. But I can't get behind anything Levi does anymore. I disagreed with that guy one time. Did so respectfully, and he completely blocked me, despite my reaching out to make my own form of apology, because I saw another one of your united not divided videos, and I felt bad I had maybe burnt a bridge. However, I didn't do anything wrong, or disrespectful, and despite that, I tried to appeal to him and argue united and not divided. I was ignored. Then I saw this.. their video is biased no matter how you spin their testing. Period. They shouldn't have edited the video the way they did if they didn't want these claims to be made in the first place. You shouldn't have to defend a truthful video. You said yourself. You rarely take down content or edit content after the fact. Because even if you mess up, you just correct it and apologize. You don't bully someone else into changing their content because they disagree with you. This is an example of someone in the industry just throwing the weight of their name around. Again, no less respect for you or what ElkShape does, but I'm disappointed that a guy like Levi Morgan has enough clout to make you feel you needed to change anything. I don't think you did anything wrong in the last video. You should be able to have a differing opinion from other people without it being a huge deal.

Im sure you had good reason to take the video down (legal issues?), but imo this is a problem within the hunting/archery community. On one hand its good to see people coming together instead of tearing each other down. We all want to see that. On the other hand it speaks to the issue of everyone knowing each other and not being able to criticize without backlash, regardless of accuracy. Burning bridges ruins reputations and opportunities with manufacturers. From the outsiders perspective this boils down to getting in good with the typical 'good ole boys club' or risk getting dragged through the coals for speaking out (see RanchFairy). In the future I'm sure we'll see something like this come out before more of the first video, which is good, but its a little disheartening to see you can't call BS without getting some form of retribution from it.

Tac vanes have some pros and cons for me. I have 6 or so arrows still 4 fetched with the 2.25" driver vanes. They were pretty quiet, especially compared to a bohning blazer vane. With them being 4 fletch, they steered the arrows very well. The cons for me would be that they don't adhere great. I've had a ton of them come off the arrows. Thats with wiping down the arrows, using the tac primer pen, and tac glue. Another major flaw is vane memory. If you blow through your target be ready to refletch your arrow. These vanes are terrible about stretching and not going back to normal. I ran them for 2 years and they work great when they work. Just got tired of refletching.

This is what is great about choices and different people. Some guys grab some stock Gold Tips with Blazers and Thunderhead 125's and kill bulls and bucks every year. Some guys fiddle with many variations of arrows, fletchings, broadheads, etc. and also kill bulls and bucks every year. That is what is cool about archery and hunting in general - you can be a nerd and fiddle with stuff or you can just take what has worked in the past and both can be successful.

I’ve been shooting swhacker broadhead (Levi Morgan edition) for the past few years, taken 4 bucks. I love them. Great penetration and devastating cuts. Everyone of them went down within sight, max distance they ran after was 50 yards and it was on the last one i shot, he was quartering away so i only hit 1 lung. 1st buck i shot swung his head around to look at my buddy who was filming so i ended up hitting him in the neck. Arrow went through the right side of his neck out the left and through the the right side of his body and hit both lungs, he didn’t go far. Best part about them is the accuracy, I can confidently swap out field points for broadheads and know I’m going to hit wherever my pin is when i shoot. (I do love broadhead tuning and the locking pin feature is really cool because you can practice with the broadhead you want to hunt with, but sometimes if i dont have the time to prep i can still go out). Overall i am very confident with these broadheads and will continue to use them.

I think Levi and Rick are good dudes, but when watching videos about their products versus others, there often feels like some hesitation from Rick to speak highly about other products that do well. It shows on their TAC vane video, as well as their Swhacker LRP video. I get it, it’s business. But it doesn’t feel 100% honest from Rick. Levi seems to be more honest, but he does seem to play up the good parts of the products he endorses more than others.

Hey Dan I love your channel, the data is what is upmost important and you and your friends stand by the hard data. I moved to WA 4 years ago and I want to start bow hunting up here but I haven’t put the time in with my bow, it hasn’t been sighted in it just been a 20yd bow you have motivated me to go out put the time in. Your content is very well received and keep it coming.

Great vid guys, Dan/JJ hit them up next time about building these with titanium ferrules. My view of these is add durability of a Sevr/ blade quality of a Beast and you would have perfect mechanical.

So what’s the verdict on the DCA Sabres that they stopped showing? Switching to 150gr Iron Will wide single bevels next season and still trying to figure out how to steer them the best without the noise that you get with the Max Hunters.

Prob 3 fletch Tac driver 2.75” with a helical if you can get them to stick well on your jig. Or a super saber 3 fletch. I really like the tacs so far but they were a nightmare to adhere. Even following all the directions and watching vids and dialing in my Bitz perfectlyyy. But i just really like the stiffness of the tac and how light they are. Super sabers are like almost 3 grains heavier per fletch than the same size tac im pretty sure

@@Orr_s I've read too many horror stories about TACs not sticking that they're really not even on my radar anymore, i just don't want the hassle. I thought about trying the mini sabres in a 4 fletch because I like the lower profile but not sure how well they'd do. I sent DCA a message asking them that question like a week ago but never heard back.

@@andyanderson4493 ive had good customer service there but that was couple years ago before he came out with those vanes…i read lot of people saying they have zero issues with the tacs sticking also then lots had nightmares…then i tried and did everything by direction, watched the videos and even cut my clamp at the top off a little for clearance issues. Sanded down the clamp to make everything flush because i bought a new clamp for left helical and they took me 3x longer than any vane ive done, and that was only half dozen arrows. Its not like im new to building arrows so idk, frustrating for sure. Theyre on there really good now but i couldn’t run a mean helical and get em to stick like i wanted to try since i only did a 3 fletch in 2.25”. That was with no wrap either. The mini saber in a 4 fletch should be plenty id think, but if the 3 fletch is close to the same weight as 4 minis id prob opt for the longer 3 fletch with an iron will. Just my thoughts

I have been playing around with the Tac’s on my 5mm/IW Single Bevel arrows and I just can’t get them to fly as well as the Max Hunters. I will say I did not have any problem getting them to stick on clean arrows, with primer pen and the Vane Master Pro 3 degree helical.
@Orr_s
@Orr_s 11 ай бұрын
@@glenncharles6622 yeah i think it might be a fletching jig issue, the Bitz is finicky, and i even have the aae receiver nob…prepped and cleaned the arrows as good and OCD as always. Used their primer pen and bob smith industries glue which i have found to be the best out of any fletching glue ive tried. Maybe i really do need their glue but its the same chemical in the tac glue. I did use no wrap maybe thats why it was so hard to adhere well because i usually always use a wrap but i wanted to get rid of the 10 grains in the back and go no wrap this time. Thats surprising and a bummer to hear though, they arent flying as well. Max hunter is a good bit taller and louder only from what i hear though havent fletched them myself

Sorry Rick you don’t get the same size entrance hole from a swhacker that you do from a fixed blade. I’ve shot them and it’s not the case. Entrance hole is tiny and makes for a long day if u don’t get an exit. I do like how the main blades are fresh for the vitals but you better get an exit. Just don’t BS people there’s no need for it.

I think you both made valid points based on the information provided by the video. The fact that Levi and Rick got emotionally offended and upset over unbiased criticism of what was if we're being fair a video biased towards their product speaks more towards their own emotional immaturity. You should have left the video up Dan and let your viewers decide for themselves. Sometimes you hurt people's feelings, Dan, and sometimes people get hurt not because your comments were mean or unfair, but because they were accurate observations. I like Levi, and I like John Dudley, but these guys with their "how dare you question me!" Ego, these past few weeks is hurting archery more than the differing opinions lately.

@@codysmith8042 All well and good, however, if clarification was all that was needed the original video shouldn’t have needed to be deleted. Could have been an “update” video or a “part 2” video. This whole thing was weird if the only reason behind it were for clarification. Apologies can be made in private, I’m not sure why this was necessary to be made publicly.
