I DID A WORKOUT AT THE UK'S FASTEST PARKRUN - Bushy Park the world record course!

This weekend I ran the Bushy Park parkrun, the course where the ParkRun world record was run by Andy Baddeley! The Bushy Park parkrun is flat and fast, just outside London and attended by a huge 1000+ finishers each week! I used the parkrun as part of my running workout for the day, running controlled (ish) at tempo pace for the 5k, then building into a 2 mile and 1 mile rep after the parkrun to continue to session. This was only my second ever parkrun, after running my first earlier this year with the one and only Harry Morgan from Jog on! It was also technically a parkrun PB! I'll definitely be back for more - this was seriously fun.

British weather always fascinates me - from heatwave to seeing your breath in just a few weeks! ... And then down to the sports top for the last mile rep 😅Looked like a fun time though, not surprised that the parkrun crowd pushed you beyond your intended pace! I'm excited to see some cross-country adventures in the near future, and as a proper Canadian boy I have to give camping my vote of approval 👍

Bushy and Kingston were my local Park Runs (you should try Kingston's, which is just across the river: it's a flat, narrow and sometimes muddy course, but it's up-and-back along the Thames towpath and a really lovely run!) ... once again, Philly, your videos are making me homesick! ;-) Thoroughly enjoyable, though!

Nice workout Philly. Pretty impressive to bust out a 17:30 5K and then follow it up with a speed session. Also glad you listened to your "inner self" on bagging the full marathon for the year. I had visions of doing a fall marathon this year but after an injury and covid there was no way I was going to be able to run, let alone train, for what I wanted to. We'll see how things go for this spring but I am enjoying focusing on the shorter races these days. Enjoyed the video.

Ohhhh campers are the best kinda people - Iv camped with my family - hubby n 2 boys who are now 13/15 since the youngest was 2 ! We started off with a tent tent and camp camped for years then when the boys got bigger instead of getting a bigger tent we decided to go ‘up market’ and glamp instead - bearing in mind me n hubby are now ‘that bit older’ but Daniel u must indulge Philly, honestly ull have a blast - it’s such a friendly lovely cozy thing to do ….. especially when u have bbqs and drinks round an open fire 🔥 ooohhh honestly they have been best years 🥰

I did this exact session last week actually (not including a parkrun!) and loved it. So difficult to ensure you stay controlled on the 3 and then get quicker to the end. Amazing how short 1 mile feels at the end after 3 & 2 mile reps.

Parkruns are great fun. I generally use them as my speed session (I like doing fartlek, often people start racing me when I pick up the pace, then I slow down, at the finish line their knackered and I am okay but feel guilty of tempting other runners to push 🙄😅 I need to wear a t shirt saying: I am doing fartlek today, then again they'll probably avoid me seeing the word fart 😅), sometimes easy run, sometimes I go for a PB.

Camping can be fun, especially what is dubbed as Car Camping (IE driving to a campground and camping). You can bring everything you need in your car, get some nice inflatable beds and because you are car camping there is no limit to what you want to bring. Don't want to sleep in a sleeping bag? That's ok, you can bring your duvet, a real blow up mattress and your pillows from home. You guys should go camping for sure.

Last Saturday a marshall at Walsall Arboretum Park Run shouted "2nd Place" to me even though I was like 60th 😂 I was doing the run in intervals and just as the true 1st place person lapped me on my 2nd lap I started to turn on the burners and people assumed I was hot on his trail. It was nice having an insight into what it would be like being an elite even if it was a total misunderstanding 😂

Camping. Everyone else's noises all through the night. Minimal sleep and cooking takes an hour when it would take 10 mins at home. Self defeating and time consuming. We're with Team Daniel. We ran Bushy parkrun years ago. About 150 did it back then. That start line was insane. Reminiscent of the National XC.

I've got Osteoarthritis in my right knee now, so can't really run. My previous best 5k time was 20mins I recently did my 1st Park Run and had to jog/walk it in 38 mins I found the ambiance to be very competitive. This was not what I was expecting. If I had walked it I'd probably have taken an hour and definitely finished last. I didn't see any other walkers taking part, and I felt very self conscious as a result. I thought that the main ethos of Park Run was to be inclusive and encourage those not used to exercise to take part. People could start off walking, then progress to jog/walking, jogging then running then onto organised races and competitions. With all you superfast whippets around I don't think I will be taking part again. I will see how Park Walk develops, but you'd probably get Olympic Race Walkers entering that! 🤭
@PhilyBowden
@PhilyBowden 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a shame you feel uncomfortable with others being competitive around you. I’ve only ever seen parkruns as an encouraging environment, encouraging everyone to take part whether walking jogging or running - seen plenty of walkers that cheer on the runners whilst the runners cheer back!

Dan you should go camping. It's a fundamentally traumatic experience but then you can continue the cycle of saying to people "oh you don't like camping?" with a raised eyebrow (like they're a weirdo sort of thing that everyone does), even though no-one actually likes camping. So they can then pretend to like camping continuing the cycle. It's a bit like having children. I have two. Great running btw Phily.

I deliberately saved this video for motivation for parkrun today, although hurt my neck at the gym yesterday so I'm not sure how running is going to go. By the way, you were the fastest female at Bushy since April 16th - not bad when you weren't pushing 100%!! So good you are listening to your body & postponing the marathon-a huge commitment if you don’t think you’re ready or the bod is up for it. U don’t want to set yourself up for a fall (confidence/enjoyment of running, u get what I mean!) by not coming up with the result ur after/aiming for. Excited to see some cross country content-haven’t tried that yet but I’m very curious🤣 it’s all exciting for me these days after falling in love with running fairly recently after HATING it as a kid🤣

Congrats, Daniel! I never made it past L! lol. Nice Duck parka, Phily. We were in Eugene last weekend to see a ball game at Autzen, (Our team lost😐) but I did not have time to run the trails. I long for the days of talking about 5 min/mile workout paces! I'll leave it to you 'young uns' to carry on! Have a great week!!

Great video Phily, loving your content. Just a thought to your Marathon plans, there are some great, flat marathons in February in Spain.... Murcia 5th February, Alicante the week later - just a thought..... I know how much you enjoyed Seville?? and maybe shorten the cross country season even more????? Keep posting the content. Inspirational.❤

I don't think Montreal counts as the vicinity of Bushy park, but Saturday's local parkrun is my next tempo session and a test for shoes and watch settings, etc ;-)

I’ve done 500 parkruns and have a marathon pb of 3.38, but watching you ‘proper’ runners, it’s a different sport. Brilliant to see

You should get Harry Mogan to join you at that parkrun you just did. It would be great to show him how far you came since your first parkrun.
