Eddy released this song in 1988, Jo'Anna is a reference to Johannesburg, the largest city of Apartheid South Africa. It is an anti apartheid song and the last verse is is hopeful that it would end, which it did in 1991. Eddy released a lot of great Reggae songs, some of which were political protest songs. Well worth listening to some of his other hits. We loved Eddy in the UK in the 80s/90s

I heard both Gimme Hope and Electric Avenue when I was young but had no idea the content of the lyrics was such serious topic ... many years later as an adult it hit me what he's singing about and the songs became so much better, its not just great tune, its poetic too...
