Ivain bula welcome home I’m from California I was in Fiji in 2000. I love the Fijian people. Since I was a black man the local Fijians treated me like family. Everywhere I went the local Fijians were hooking me up left and right, free breakfast free lunch free drinks etc. I was introduced to the Mayor she gave me her card and told me if I have any issues to reach out to hear. Enjoy brother soak up both the cultures Indian and Fijians. Don’t forget to go to a village. Fiji life Bula Vinaka

In Fijian culture, everyone is treated like family regardless of what country they're from. Same vibes across the pacific islands where family is everything.

How funny. My husband was in the British army and stationed in Germany a young soldier from Fiji arrived. It was winter and winters in Germany can be brutally cold. The poor guy was not acclimatised, yet, coming straight from the UK, where the winters are much milder. So my husband made sure Chief, that's what we called him, was only working indoors. Lovely guy, we invited him for Christmas, as most people on camp went home to visit family and the would've been pretty much by himself. Our son was over moon that he had a friend who would spend hours playing Nintendo with him. Great times.

Love the angle youre taking. Im from Fiji living in California ... you wont go wrong getting to know the locals - fijians, indo fijians, and every mix in the mix. Fiji is not so much the beach n the sun n the hotels ... but the people. Safe exciting travels !!!

At-P:. Back in the day people used to make homebrew in the same tub as everyone washed in. They would clean the tub before making the brew and as the saying goes the alcohol will kill the germs. Americans have gotten soft now and don't want to drink bathtub brew. But still I agree that there could be a less hands on approach to making drink.

Ivain I have a question for you. I've noticed just about world wide people don't have a problem eating and drinking after one another. Here in the US you rarely see that happening. I know you have noticed that Americans have a problem with that. When I was a small kid back in the late 60s early 70s we would go to my grand parents house and they had no running water they got their drinking water from a well. They would have a bucket with a dipper in it and everyone would drink from that. I think back to them how I would drink from that same container and now no way I could do it. I think my mother started it because she would never drink after us. She taught us to never drink after anyone. My question is was this something that you noticed right off when you got to the US or is it not as noticeable as I am making it to be?
@IvainTures8 ай бұрын
I think that you are 100% right. It is something that I noticed right away. I have to tell you I’m not very comfortable with it either. I don’t judge people who do it as it’s just a cultural difference. However, I really don’t like it. 😂
@beaujac3118 ай бұрын
@@IvainTuresThe way you travel I would imagine that it is tough trying to not come off as being disrespectful when people offer you something from their culture just like that drink you refused during this video. I liked that they did not seem offended. I like these kinds of videos where you take us to where these people live and see them in that environment. Seeing them in a resort environment is like not seeing who they are at all. I appreciate this video.
@unguja648 ай бұрын
@@beaujac311 - I totally agree with you. 👍 When I visit a place I value and seek out the authentic culture and traditions of a people, rather than staying at the resort full time.

In Fiji, when people stand while there sitting, its treated as being rude. In your case its exceptional because your invited and foreign. They have their own vloggers online as well.Reknown vloggers such as "Mark Wiens" and many others been there and loved it and very respectful as well.A guy from cameroon did come to fiji and was rude big time, making rude comments about our woman. @IvainTures Fiji is not known as Mini India. It is a Pacific Island country in the region of Oceania and is grouped under the Melanesian Islands cultural grouping and shares its heritage with neighboring Polynesia. It has 30% of Indian ancestry population known as Indo-Fijians (not mixed) who have been living in Fiji for over a century and their culture have integrated into the life and fabric of Fiji. However, it is no way known as Little India.
