Why? Two different cultures and ethics. PBS would want to hide brands and dumb down the work. This Old House is more like This Old Expensive Remodel House and AskThisOldHouse is more about the average home fixer, owner. Even some of the shows look like they used their own staff to fill in for episodes. Atleast they are bringing in new talent but KZbin has some of its own, like Shoyan.

You can still find good builders in the US. So much of the work is done by south of the border people and very few of them are good at what they do. A huge part of them can't even read a tape measure and can't add and subtract fractions in their heads.

@@johncamp7679 LOL. The chisels he uses are a lot sharper than us chisels. I slowly converted to Japanese tools because mostly they are better. Actually the carpenter in the video is not using all the good Japanese tools he could use. I bought a Japanese framing hammer 35 years ago, still using it as there is none better in the world. Cost $25. I just used a razor knife to sharpen my carpenters hammer and for close work used a mechanical, thin lead. They mark the same every time.
@johncamp7679
@johncamp7679 13 күн бұрын
@ I was wondering where to get a hammer like that. I have some Japanese chisels now, I never thought about using them for that, I have a couple pull saws, but the rasps are really good. Thanks for the info

J Grade is a unique visual quality No. 2 & Better developed by B.C. lumber suppliers in the late 1970s to meet appearance construction lumber requirements for Japanese home builders. It limits/restricts the amount of wane, sap/heart stain, pin/grub/teredo holes and warp. While the amount of these characteristics allowed in No. 2 & Better do not limit the serviceability or strength of the products for construction applications, they did not meet the visual requirements Japanese builders needed to satisfy their customers. J Grade is not assigned higher-strength values than No. 2 & Better, as primary strength-limiting characteristics such as knots, slope-of-grain or shake are allowed in accordance with the No. 2.

swallows are considered a good omen in Romania and Moldova, if they choose your house for building a nest, it will be a very lucky year for that household, and it will protect the house from natural disasters; they say if you break one of their nests, they will bring burning twigs and burn your house down. vengeful little bastards in the folk mythology 😅
