I'm curious what was Kojima's original idea for DS2. In Game Awards, Kojima said he already wrote the story for DS2. But then re-wrote it completely, due to the pandemic.
@RobinGaming

Yeah I honestly take statements like that with a grain of salt but I wonder how much he ended up changing in that case!

He said in his podcast that it was because after experiencing the pandemic, the story didn't make to much sense anymore. So now the new story it's what happens after people connect, what comes next. "Should we have connected?" Just like how people connected during and after the pandemic. Also he said that the second game was planned (though of) when he was still making the first one.
@KabbalahSherry
@KabbalahSherry Жыл бұрын
@MythicalSalmon - Yeah that question of "Should We Have Connected" intrigues me. I can't help but wonder if Kojima saw how stupid & idiotic some people behaved during the beginnings of the pandemic, and perhaps it made him question how people "connecting" to spread disinformation, only made things worse. I mean, there was people dying as early as in their 20s & 30s from the virus, during in the early days of the pandemic (before a vaccine was developed)... but then you saw a lot of people that didn't care about all that, and were protesting for places like Applebee's or their nail salons, to open back up again. 🙄 Idiots. He said the pandemic happened, and it made him change up his story ideas. I can't help but wonder about the cult in the game, and what their mission/directive is... This game is gonna be WILD. 😅🎮 I can't wait!

Something I haven't heard anyone talk about yet is that Fragile doesn't have the old body from being drenched in timefall when she rides on the unicycle. This entire trailer is so different from the first game that it's almost like a fever dream. But I loved DS1, I'm so ready to love this one too!

I am BEYOND hyped for this. Loved the first game, and am super excited for DS2. Probably my most anticipated game atm. However, i gotta say, after the recent passing of Low Roar, part of me is kind of worried for the music in the sequel. Low roar's music played such a huge role for me in DS1, it added to the atmosphere and general vibe of the game, and whenever it popped up randomly during a delivery it heightened the game's quality for me SO MUCH. It just fit the world Kojima made so perfectly. I really hope the music in DS2 lives up to that.

I watched your review on A Plague Tale Requiem, which is my most favourite game right now, and i was so impressed by it, i agree literally with everything you said in these 33 minutes. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the kind words. As far as the style of videos: I've done it all haha. I made many videos for which I prepared and read from scripts I wrote, did regular discussion videos, and this format right now is kind of a hybrid. I do write down points I wanna address, but my commentary itself is practically unscripted, yet I also edit some parts so they flow a little better. I like it because it allows me to upload videos that don't take super long to produce while still feeling high quality. Glad to hear you enjoy them!

So if that is Lou she becomes a BT and then later her BT becomes . . . an Octopus?

Sounded like a DS2 was always planned with Kojima saying he had the story for it written *before* the pandemic. Which was just months after the first games release. And they never built the engine from the ground up... they used the Decima Emgine that Guerrilla Games gave them. It was an already existing engine that KojiPro just made tweaks to.

I think Death Stranding would be a powerful franchise if they ever figure out how to do Procedural generation with the Decima engine. The game is all about trekking from location to location; climbing, crossing whatever obstacles lay in your path. What if your environment changes every 12hrs? It would mean the same routes you created before no longer apply, and you have to once again plan your routes and decide careful what tools to bring.

Good writers always write the sequel to their novels. You could tell major thought was put in to DS with the tons of emails etc. It was expected. As well as, you start working on that at the same time. Not a Kojima fan boy but played MGS when it first came out knew who he was. However he is an artist. Artists paint different pictures and I’m glad he is doing that. We as gamers should allow the devs to paint the pictures they want instead of demanding they paint the same picture (game) and express the creativity they have.

Personally I think this game will be more action oriented rather then focused on delivering packages. He said “should we have connected” meaning something bad is going down. Kojima is def taking into consideration the feedback and might focus more on action/combat and linear design rather big open levels. Also higgs return as the big bad will be awesome because I love his character. Also I’m praying cliff makes a huge return.

Noooo I like "big open levels" though! 😩🤷🏻‍♀️ Traversing that incredible map was a major part of the experience & I LOVED that. I'm going to be sooo disappointed if it just becomes a typical shooter like so many other games. We've played games like THAT to death already. Why can't people have been content w/trying something new?? It's fine if the game wasn't for everybody... but that doesn't mean they need to ruin future experiences for the rest of Us! EDIT: I'm hoping that DieHardman makes a return again. His character was AMAZING. 🥹 He gave an incredible performance...
@marcogianesello6083
@marcogianesello6083 Жыл бұрын
Well if that is the feedback he's taking then this game is screwed, since the first one would have been miles upon miles better if there was no direct combat in it, and he had focused on polishing the traversal mechanics, made a bigger open world and adjusted the difficulty curve of the environmental factors. It would be the equivalent of turning doom into a platformer.

A few things that I also want to mention: -Sam's age. Has he been unwillingly exposed to timefall? Conversely, Fragile seems to have her young body back? Perhaps a positive side effect of her being a repatriate? -Kojima said he changed the story so he doesn't predict the future again. Perhaps that's why it feels inconsistent with the first one? I loved Death Stranding, 100% it on PS4, then bought it on steam and 100% there. And then, I 100% it again when Director's Cut came to steam. After the third time, I was a little burnt out at the end. But after a period of not playing Death Stranding, I always miss it somehow. Recently I've 100% Snowrunner on steam playing co-op with my brother, and it actually fixed my itch of being a delivery man. Great game! Amazing vehicle and terrain physics! When speaking of physics, I hope DS2 actually have good physics, tumbling down when walking could look very cheap. And driving vehicles off-road was a pain to witness. I really hope they double down on the mechanics of the game. And make it harder so the game actually punishes you. The voidout concept in game was really cool, and it felt like a missed potential in DS. I also witnessed it after completing it, by manually triggering it. Cool to see the crater but there wasn't really a consequence after that. The crater dissappeared anyways after a while if I remember correctly. But yes, I do love Death Stranding even though it has it's faults. Can't wait for the sequel!

Robin it's so good to hear your voice again regarding the God of War video you just uploaded and now this! I'm truly amazed at how much our opinions line up about gaming. Uncharted is STILL peak gaming for me. God of War: Ragnarok does have some bloated elements but overall I don't think they worsen the sum of its parts. Lastly, the way you describe how DS1's gameplay loop is addictive is exactly how I would describe it too. It's strange that I found myself being pulled back into a seemingly boring game, but that's just it -- there's enough there that it's not a boring game, but something greater, deeper, and more meaningful. I am excited for the ways Kojima and company will innovate on this established IP, I don't have any other points to add to what you've already said; again, it's just nice to hear your opinions on current gaming culture. I feel like we're a niche group of gamers who are constantly searching for the next compelling narrative and not just a simple pastime. The story and world is very intruiging and bizarre and cool and the gameplay was just an experience like it felt so calming but dangerous at times. One crazy moment I had was that I left a human body laying close to BTs by accident and after like 30 mins the world got incinerated and I had to go back to an older save to get that body and go burn it. Its those crazy bizarre things Kojima does that its crazy that he even can get a big budget for an idea like this. I do hope they do more actiony gameplay for the sequel though. Just a heads up, Kojima productions didn't make an engine from the ground up. They used an existing engine for Death Stranding called Decima Engine. I also very much enjoyed my time with Death Stranding, it definitely isn't just a walking simulator, elevating the gameplay from the first one I think would have to include force feedback from the Dualsense controller or something like that. The narrative of that first game however I thought was very much lacking and bordering on mediocre sometimes. I do think the directing and cinematography are on point but that narrative really needs work. The uncanny valley of the main cast also I think needs improving.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the boss fights were terrible in Death Stranding. It just felt soulless which the first Metal Gear did as well. I think Death Stranding 2 will set the standard for the series and what a sequel to DS2 would end up as. Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake on MSX set up for MGS series: According to Paul Soth of GameSpy, the game surpassed its predecessor Metal Gear in every way. In addition to praising the gameplay, he also praised the game's "gripping, well written storyline" for its "rich characterization" and its "same quality of storytelling that made MGS so compelling." I think Death Stranding 2 will hit the same high bar. Kojima is really good at executing sequels and that's what he shown with MGS series on PlayStation with Solid Snake's story. The first Metal Gear on MSX got a score of 79%. Far from perfect just like Death Stranding. Polarized the audience. Back in the 80's it was not received well from everyone to not kill the enemies and just infiltrate the base and escape from guards to face mercenaries in different areas in the base. Death Stranding's BT fights were really bad executed. Kojima needs to replace them with humans and background stories to get to that "rich characterization".

As a uber-fan of Death Stranding, and Kojima in general, I would not enjoy a better combat system, I would rather the social aspect be expanded more, the core concept is very cool, but Kojima and his team can do better, I know they can.

Used to like anime. Can't stomach it anymore. Except the movies like Spirited Away, Ghost in the shell, Ninja Scroll, Animatrix etc.. which I love. The serial stuff like One Piece can stay far away from me lol As for DS2... can't wait, most anticipated game currently by far

Dog gone it now I need to buy a PS5 for sure because I got to play this. I already have an Xbox series X and it's my favorite thing ever. And I didn't think PS5 would have any exclusive games that I would need to get it for. But I did get a PS4 just for death stranding one

Robin, what did you think of The Game Awards of this year? I thought it was pretty decent but I was upset A Plague Tale: Requiem didn't win anything. I think it should have won the Best Music in my opinion.

GOW Ragnarok musical scores blows the others away. Bear McCreary literally composed for AMC's The Walking Dead Season 6-8 and no soundtracks can compare to that.

I didn't watch it, just checked out the trailers for the stuff I found interesting afterwards. Judas, DS2, and a couple other other things look sick! But the fighting over awards and all the industry celebrities are not really something I can say I care for much anymore tbh. Shoutout to Bill Clinton kid though, that moment alone probably still would have made it worth it to do a live reaction hahaha!

@@DarkAttackYT A whole lot of battle orchestral scores are amazing. You are bad at sensing scores. The same can be said about A Plague Tale "Oh I ONLY remember the menu theme."

A Plague Tale Requiem is 80/100 range Metacritic. Game Of The Year trophy is for those in 94-97/100 range Metacritic, like Elden Ring and GOW Ragnarok. Get over it. The scores are literally on Metacritic.

This is one of those games I had 0 interest in for a long time based on what i saw and heard. Eventually it was available for free on psn so i randomly gave it a try. I played it long enuff to get into the story ad was able to watch videos and stuff while playing it. The thing about this game it REALLY opens up later on in ways I honestly assumed it didn't. Guns, trucks, motorcycles, blood grenades and bullets, tranqs, bolas, etc... I was always a big fan of anime and i still had no interest. THe story is very odd and the marketing portrayed a weird story and only the beginning of whats allowed in the game, walking... But it's so much more. It's a great game.

The cult is actually walking through SNOW at the beginning of the trailer. Not a desert or a beach filled with sand. That is SNOW. 😏👌🏼❄️ What this means, I don't know. But I don't think the cult is able to go to Beaches like Amelie & Fragile could. However, my thinking is: Louise might be a repatriate now. And her "Ha" (body) and her "Ka" (soul) might be separated, due to Amelie bringing Lou back, as she had done for Sam, all those years before. The cult's objective might be to combine the two together again... just as that will be the objective of Sam & Fragile later as well. Both groups will be racing against each other, to try to do the same thing. And this would go along well w/the theme of "Drawbridges", or whatever. We don't know what consequences there could be, from doing this action. Hence the question that was asked: "Should We Have Connected?" I also notice on the character advertisements, over a picture of Elle Fanning, it asks the question "Who Am I?" I think that she is an adult Lou, and I think that the cult has been in possession of Louise's physical body the whole time... and Fragile, has her soul, in a pod. I think we'll see the cult kidnap Louise at the beginning of the game, and knock Fragile out. They'll think that she is dead... but she will only have lost consciousness. Anyway, I think she will wake up, and go back to her shelter, and discovered that Lou's "Ka" has appeared in her old pod. Flash forward 20yrs or whatever, and Fragile has been searching for Sam the whole time, and finally finds him. Maybe Fragile has heard news that Louise's body is still alive, and that she has been raised by the cult, and is with them, and she needs Sam's help to reunite Lou's body w/her soul... before the cult can do it. That's what I've theorized so far! 👊🏽😃 I'm so excited for this game to come out! I'm so happy that he is making a sequel! I hope there will be at LEAST 3 games set in this universe! DS is one of the greatest & most unique games I have ever played in my life.

After how let down I was with death stranding 1, no way am I getting the sequel. Unless it's not a strands type game with just delivery, then maybe people will be interested. But seeing as I guess people loved that boring gameplay loop then yeah I guess a sequel was justified. Really wish kojima would make something more mature yet enjoyable to play.
