I always found it weird that they made the main character look more like Bruce Willis in the rebranded game, yet made zero attempt to make the villain look like Alan Rickman. I think everyone who played the game thought "who TG is this guy?" when playing. Also surprised they didn't try and base Dynamite Cop on Speed 2. :D But I totally agree Sam, I love Die Hard Arcade so much, I went and bought a Sega ST-V and a cartridge just to play the original version!

Its because it was never meant to be a Die Hard game. Someone at Sega thought their game was so generic they needed some sort of "branding" for it. The arcade game was already done when they asked Fox about attaching the Die Hard name to it. The devs were likely told make minimal changes for minimal money, OR see what you can change that would be "free"

I kind of had the reverse, in that I played the Die Hard games (Arcade and Trilogy) a couple of years before my parents let me watch the films. I spent the whole movie going, "Where's the President's daughter and the old guy with the beard?"

Both Die Hard Arcade and Dynamite Cop are both fantastic games and shows a perfect blend of simple action, QTEs and that big dumb comedy that blends altogether so wonderfully to make these titles such a joy to play. You can tell the developers had a lot of fun conjuring and developing both of these titles to make them so amusing to play ever now and then.
@WebstersYouTubeАй бұрын
I think that's something modern games miss. If the developers are allowed to have fun making the game, we'll have fun playing it.

It should be known that the plot from Dynamite Deca was recycled from a canceled script for the second Die Hard movie. That script seemed similar to Under Siege so it was not used for the Die Hard 2 movie. It makes it more confusing as to why Sega just didn’t get the Die Hard license again if from the very beginning Dynamite Deka had ties to Die Hard by the plot coming from a canceled Die Hard movie script. The Bruno Delinger character also appears in the video game Project X Zone. Wait, as I’m writing this I’m noticing more connections here. Bruce Willis who has played the main character John McClane in the Die Hard films started a music career where he went by the name BRUNO Radolini. Dynamite Deca/ Die Hard Arcade features a character named Cindy HOLIDAY. The Die Hard franchise features a character who a lot of times is in the wrong place at the wrong time during a HOLIDAY (even if the plot isn’t on a holiday the franchise is still connected to a holiday like A Good Day To Die Hard coming out on Valentines Day). I’m reaching here and I can’t fully explain this one but in the movie Die With A Vengeance there is a clue “Nord DES LINGES”, that might be where Bruno’s last name DELINGER came from. Thinking of all this it seems like the Dynamite Deca franchise from it’s inception was a homage to the Die Hard franchise then it became part of the franchise (in some regions) then went back to being a homage.

Huh, had no idea Die Hard 2 was originally on a boat rather than at an airport, but the concerns about similarities to Under Siege make sense. Imagine if the chef boss had been made to look like Steven Seagal!

Reading the stuff about Dynamite Cop's plot in Project X Zone's glossary, I went "Wait, this just sounds like Die Hard, but on a cruise ship". So then I went to Wikipedia and found out that it wasn't a coincidence. Also, I find Dynamite Cop's connection to Die Hard kinda ironic, considering that the first Die Hard movie was based on the novel "Nothing Lasts Forever", which itself was a sequel to the novel "The Detective", which got adapted into a Frank Sinatra movie.

I only learned of Asian Dynamite a year ago. I was super excited but that disappeared quickly when first, I couldn't emulate it perfectly, but much more when I realized it was a 100% reskin. I also agree the powerups where you change characters is a big detriment. I would just avoid them at all costs after awhile.

I remember playing Dynamite Cop on a Sega Dreamcast at an EB Games. Very fun game. Hoping one day Sega releases all these games on modern consoles and pc. The prices for legit copies for Saturn and Dreamcast are way too high now. Sega has released a bunch of Genesis games, nut have been pretty neglectful of their Saturn/Dreamcast games.

Hmm, while they're happy to re-release the same selection of 50-odd Mega Drive games time and time again, they seem less keen on Saturn and Dreamcast titles. While Nights got a PS3 / 360 and PC re-release (based on the Japan only PS2 version), Panzer Dragoon and House of the Dead got farmed out to Forever Entertainment with underwhelming results. Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5 and Sega Bass Fishing got PS3 / Xbox 360 and PC re-releases (and even then Adventure was based on a port of a port, locking some features behind DLC). But overall, very few and far between.

@WebstersKZbin, Ya never know. We're finally getting an official home port of Capcom's excellent Punisher arcade game. Hoping the same one day for Dynamite Cop. I didn't even know there was a 3rd one lol. I think most of the Sega Dreamcast games that were rereleased on Xbox 360 are still playable through backwards compatibility on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X. Greedy of Sega to lock the extra content for Sonic Adventure 1&2 behind dlc pay walls. Modern gaming...

The original game was specifically developed as a Die Hard game. The license wasn’t “slapped on” at all, Sega had to strip the license out and replace it with original IP for the Japanese release because they couldn’t get the license in Japan.
@WebstersYouTubeАй бұрын
Oh, so it was the other way around? That's interesting. Do you have any sources handy? Would love to read more about it.
@gammaphonicАй бұрын
@@WebstersKZbin looking into it a bit further, the truth seems to be somewhere in the middle. The game was developed in the US as a collaboration between Sega AM1 and STI. Makoto Uchida was instructed by Sega to develop an arcade game using the ST-V board that would appeal to western gamers. He had wanted to make a game like the Die Hard movie anyway and saw this as a perfect fit. Partway through development, they realised what they were making was a bit too similar to Die Hard, but rather than change direction they contacted Fox about the license. Fox liked it and they worked together to complete the game. But they only acquired the license for western territories, so when the game was translated for the Japanese market, the Die Hard license, character and setting was altered. So it wasn’t developed as a Die Hard game from the start, but they didn’t just slap the license on it either. But as the game was developed in the US and in English, I think it’s fair to say the US version is the original and the Japanese version is the localisation. I found a few interviews with Uchida. www.sega-16.com/2019/06/classic-interview-makoto-uchida-die-hard-arcade/ shmuplations.com/dynamitecop/
