As a medical scientist I can tell you that there is actual scientific merit behind the "stop getting dirty" theory. It has to do with the natural bacteria on the human skin that we continually wash off when we shower each day. After a certain period of time a layer of "good" bacteria cover the skin and the "worse" smell-causing bacteria lose their space on the skin to grow. Another factor is the soaps we use constantly remove the oils secreted by the skin to keep it moist. The skin then reacts by overproducing oil which builds up while not showering. Eventually the skin adapts and reduces oil secretions and the skin feels normal again.

The most important thing I've learned is to be proud of making the smallest of improvements. It's a slow process, but it has worked well for me.

My medical knowledge is that the skin is self cleaning with aid from the immune system, clothes do not clean themselves automatically. Avoiding soap allows healthy bacteria to dominate the skin which out competes the bacterias that makes you smell bad (as long as your immune system is strong and healthy). It's okay to go a month without a shower (though not recommended) Water = good, soap = potentially bad ? - soap unfit for your skintype removes good and bad bacteria and irritates the skin which makes it voulnurable for bad bacterias to overtake. Do change your underwear daily. Underwear is not self cleaning and does not have it´s own immune system. (Edit) - Do wash your hands with soap. Virus = bad, clean hands = good.
