I've been a heroin addict and drug addict in general my entire life. I have wasted my entire youth and adult life thus far by following the the dangerous paths that you had outlined early on in the video (jail, rehab, homelessness, rinse repeat --> death being wildcard) You literally have a vast knowledge of addiction and understand it more than most and you have my respect for releasing this video and giving your community the harsh truth of reality, and I know it's a awkward subject for most of the younger guys... Let me tell you you guys.. I have been to many jails, and even prison. I'm 30 years old... I have lost all my friends, family, and valuable along with having to sell my PC multiple times to fund my addiction. I wouldn't wish such a harsh reality on my worst enemy. I am lucky enough to still be waking up everyday but most of my friends that I once had rather are in prison, or dead.. Most of which are dead unfortunately. Stick to weed guys.. Stay the hell away from those bars, percs, and any and all manmade dangerous drugs for that matter. Minus bud, and maybe shrooms? Just know that you keep dabbling with these substances and the next thing you know you're going to be sitting in a room within a pod with 75 other men, showering, shitting, sleeping, eating etc with no privacy in front of all these fucking noobs 24/7... Gaming is an addiction too guys... I can't tell you how many people i've met at LAN centers back in the day that I became friends with that have ended up with a terrible substance problem such as heroin like myself. You all have addictive peronalitys and need to acknowledge this within yourself and not make the terrible decisions that I have. I'm not going to give my sob story any longer but I'm writing this comment to show my respect to not only asmon, but to all you young men that need to take this topic seriously... You think that it won't be you or it can't happen to you... I assure you it will and can be.. Stay safe my dudes

I battled a coke addiction from about 22-25. I'm 27 now and finally getting my shit together, but it took me almost losing everything and everyone in my life. I'm not sure how it compares to a heroin addiction because I never needed it so badly that I spent my rent money or bill money on it, but literally every extra dollar I had went to coke and booze. Even though I payed my rent and shit I also sold a lot of shit to feed that addiction. Very very few people can dabble once in a while as a fun thing and keep it under control, but the huge majority cant, and although you might think you have a grip on it, it's a very slippery slope and extremely easy to lose control. Stay safe my friends.

I wouldn't agree with that. I have played WOW for as long as it has been out there with my kids and every which way. There was a stretch of time, early on, during vanilla, BC and Lich King when I felt addicted to it. Maybe it was the gear chase, arena or newness of it. The rush of an expansion. For a while I was on all day. But the addiction just didn't last. Just like my kids did, I just played less. The game became less interesting over time - probably a good thing. They might have crapped up the game too and maybe that's why they added Classic. I tried Classic but it didn't do anything for me - I had moved past it. Right now I am content to get on Shadowlands and BFA occasionally for relaxation and play some old content but it doesn't need to be an obsession.

I was a stoner for years and recently stopped completely, not even intentionally, just stopped enjoying it, and I have to say I enjoy sobriety far more than I thought I would. I wasn't dysfunctional on weed or anything like that, I held down a job, graduated college etc. But I got tired of being stoned and not wanting to go out with friends because I was high and wanted to stay in. I was tired of avoiding social situations because I was high and paranoid. I dated girls who loved smoking weed and going out, but I refused to, which caused problems in the relationship. Life is far more enjoyable when you aren't limiting yourself like that.

I’m almost 39 and I’ve never been drunk or high, I’ve never done weed either. For me, I grew up in a hellish abusive environment.. my step dad was abusing me while my mom drank till she was black out drunk and ignored what was happening, my aunt was also a raging alcoholic. I saw from a very young age the effects of booze and I decided early on I wanted nothing to do with it. As I got older I started to notice the addictive trait in myself, I became highly addicted to caffeine and even now at almost 40 I’ve never been able to kick it. I made a conscious decision when I was a teen to never touch drugs, for someone like myself it could only take me down a dark path that I’d probably never make it out of. I think it’s helped me face and heal from my trauma in much healthier ways, the effect of drugs are temporary.. they feel good in the short term but you will never get better self medicating in that way, it’s just an endless loop until you’re either in jail or dead. I didn’t want that for myself.. for me, it was sheer stubbornness of not wanting to let my step father win.. I wanted to live a beautiful life to spite that cunt and I fucking did it. I’ve lived in the midst of addiction and I fully understand how hard it is and anyone dealing with it has my full sympathy and support. ❤️

@Harkz0r3 жыл бұрын
Something tells me that I haven't faced nearly the same level of abuse you have - that sounds vile beyond reckoning - but I did, at least, have the opportunity to see the effects these things can have. My father was an alcoholic in terms of addiction, though he was never violent, but it still caused a strain on my parents' marriage. My mother barely drank until I was in my early teens, then it felt as though Pandora's box opened. She would binge something terrible. Once, she sliced open her arm in a depressive state and I had to bandage it and call the hospital. I'd act as a counsellor and pour my heart out to her only to not have her remember a single word the next morning. Other times she would be like Jekyll and Hyde and become impossible to reason with, going so far as to try and throw me out of the house. Police or ambulance staff were called multiple times, only to end up with her knocking on the door at 3-4 in the morning because she'd escaped from a hospital waiting room. I tend to drink in small amounts. I dislike the notion of having my state of consciousness altered by anything other than my own volition and I decided that in childhood. The most I will stretch to is meditation, hypnosis or very light drinking. I don't take any other substances. I did try weed once at a LAN, largely due to peer pressure, then again years later when visiting a friend. To be honest, I couldn't really tell much of a difference, and I'd rather not have it on my lungs. If I do have an addiction or a vice, it's more likely to be gaming than anything else. But at least that way I'm not dragging everyone around me into the spiral, and I don't have a physiological dependency. You sound like a strong person, and I'm glad you were able to succeed in spite of injustices you neither asked for nor could control.

I got recommended this video at an odd point in my life. My dad passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 52 years old, and today he would have been 53 years old. For the record I’m and adult under the age of 21. He died from acute liver failure, when he was sad, he drank, and he has sad often. He struggled with addiction his whole life, and it eventually destroyed him. My roommates in college have always offered me drinks, never been pushy, but always offered. I was the only person in my friend group who never drank under any circumstance, and I don’t ever want to. I have only ever seen the worst of alcohol and drugs growing up. I saw my dad and my grandpa become shells of themselves after enough whiskey. I saw my parent’s marriage collapse as a result of secretive drinking. I now have seen my dad lifeless, yellow in the skin and eyes, and bloated because of alcohol. I can’t ever make my kid’s choices, but I will tell them about their grandpa, and I will tell them of alcohol. They will know that alcohol is poison, even though most people drink it. They will know that it is addictive, and that nobody is safe from the negative effects. And they will know that because of alcohol, and misuse of it, that they will never get to know their grandpa.

I wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy and I truly hope you can find the strength without having to go through anything similar. @@stevo22 sorry but... are you saying you were vomiting, got cold sweats and shakes from marijuana withdrawals?? if that's what you're saying then I'm calling bs. cause like... i'm 3 weeks into my tolerance break right now and i know for a fact that marijuana withdrawals, if any, are very minor. akin to caffeine. marijuana addiction is almost entirely built in habit, not physical dependancy.
@stevo223 жыл бұрын
@@cal5750 No, I don't believe I mentioned withdrawal at all, I simply had a bad reaction to some likely bad weed mixed with a few drinks (My body has never taken the mix well EDIT: This usually occurs when I drink before I smoke, just wanted to add this). I wasn't trying to bare my soul here or make up some bullshit story to scare people straight, I can assure you that this DID happen and it was a truly horrible experience. I'd also advise caution about "calling BS" on other people's recovery stories as you really don't know me or how my body reacts to recreational drugs (funnily enough, humans can react differently to drugs... Shocker! I know!). I was simply trying to share my story in the hopes that it might help someone else. I'd say in my case it's less a habit than it was a mental dependence on the feeling Weed gave me which helped me deal with other mental and social issues I have. I don't believe I mentioned anything about having a physical addiction, in fact I believe I actually mentioned a mental addiction in my first comment. (EDIT 2: I didn't mention anything about Addiction previously now I've looked, I must have been thinking of another conversation I've had on the topic, and as an update, I've not had any withdrawal symptoms since stopping aside from the urge to smoke more cigarettes which leans into the habitual side of things along with the fact that I used to smoke a mix of tobacco and weed.. which comes with a very much physical nicotine addiction that can and does confuse your brain into thinking you NEED the weed, when in reality, you just need the nicotine.) I'd love to know why you felt the need to call me out on this though?
@cal57503 жыл бұрын
@@stevo22 bro all you had to say was no it wasnt that deep lol. I asked if it was strictly about marijuana withdrawals. If it wasn't, then what i said didn't matter. It’s the same principles for learning, the smartest in any field is likely to be someone incredibly passionate about their work, someone who is happy when learning or sharing what they love. If you love something you probably find yourself studying it unintentionally, watching videos or reading articles in your free time. Listening to asmon on any podcast has been incredible, unlike most on the shows he appears on he rarely has anything stupid to say, always adding value without reading off of google or making it about politics. The first step is being able to type that to strangers. Trust and believe the fight to end the alcohol consumption gets easier the more people you talk to about it. Talk to your guild, talk to your friends, talk to your family, talk to a stranger on the street. Go talk to a homeless person about your addiction then give him a 50 dollar bill for their time. You will gain VALUABLE insight and it will bring awareness to your trouble. Both to yourself and those who love you. If all that fails, cut your drivers license in half, tape it back together with a gap inbetween it. If that doesnt work, go buy a quarter of weed, tell yourself you will not drink alcohol but instead will smoke weed. Weed is a much easier drug habit to kick than alcoholism and I will tell you, for a fact, weed got me through quitting alcohol. I have 3 DUI's and ruined my early life, I havnt drank alcohol in about a year and 2 months. (though, I do smoke weed still from time to time so you MUST KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES and the future problems this will cause and how to plan around them.)
