I’m not Chinese but was wondering the same thing. I would have expected Chinese tradition to be with Chinese animals, but I guess China must have been trading with other countries for a long time. Chinese culture is one of the most beautiful in the world too except for the traditional medicine part, this whole illegal animal trade is a stain on that image.

What you need to understand is that nothing about this is "traditional". You think the ancient chinese had any idea what a pangolin was? Convince them it is rare/medicinal/desired by their neighbors. Because they’re after short term results, and don’t care about the long term

I have containers of spotted owl bile for sale for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. It's green and sweet tasting. Us Americans call it Ahn-Ti Fri-zu

I remember doing a project on pangolins back when I was in the 6th grade. They are fascinating creatures who are very timid but kind. They are also the inspiration for the Sandshrew line in Pokémon, so Pokémon fans, y'all should also be pissed about this.

I stopped trusting even vegetarian Chinese medicine when I realized that it may have caused a friend of mine to get incredibly ill. We don't know if the medicine was contaminated or it somehow just backfired for her. She was taking a lot of it. She stopped the treatment when the pain started, but it never went away. After awhile she could barely move or eat. Her doctors ignored her and wouldn't send her to a rheumatologist. And most of her friends and religious community ignored her too. She was a religious person so she kept trying to live, but her symptoms got worse and worse. She had to sit with one leg drawn up because every other position was unbearable, and she spent all day just trying to distract herself. She lived six years like this. I've never seen anyone suffer so much.😭🙏😢

I'm sri lankan, pangolins are poached here too, but they are not mainly for China, they are sent away to worlds top cosmetics companies because of the high keratin content on the pangolin scales, any good brand of cosmetics which contain keratin has a high chance of it containing pangolin, traditional Chinese medicine is not the sole cause
