For the people who wonder what the glowing string is: it's Electroluminescent wire (or EL-wire for short). You can also buy it in panels and you can cut both wire and panels to shape and still have them glow, so long as the two opposing laminates do not touch eachother where you made the cut since that will short circuit the whole thing.
@SpyralStormTeacup3 ай бұрын
I always used to leave this stuff laying in my old shopping carts when I was younger in case I wanted to sew it into clothing/fabrics 👍
@sevenproxies42553 ай бұрын
@@SpyralStormTeacup Yes, you can do that. However, unless you come up with a way to easily detach the EL components from the fabric, it will be difficult to launder the fabric in a washing machine without risk of destroying the EL components.

@@sevenproxies4255 That's no problem to work around. You can sew tabs on clothing to line or weave for it to be removable, or else if it does happen to be worn on the body or say get splashed with mud, lol, wear it sparingly to minimize cleaning needs, hand washing is easy and a healthy habit to have. Not all fabric, too, I would see as clothing-sweat worthy. Fabric is great environmental decor, flexible for lighting needs putting up and breaking down, and was looking into sewing colorguard performance gear, LED staff and performance mods for stage effects, etc. Whether practical or artistic project purposes, it's fun supply to play with!

@ggooaa1005 ай бұрын
Why is that? Just curious.
@VTNick165 ай бұрын
Its slightly safer since he is using a softwood. Only because if the blade were to catch, it would just blow out a section of that stock. When you cut at a miter, you are switching from a true cross cut, to almost a rip cut on certain sides of the stock. If that piece of wood turns the wrong way it would bring your can way closer to the blade than I’m comfortable with. If you hold the piece too closely, it can roll, then shoot off the fence or back wall back at ya. Obviously he has some experience with his miter saw, but for the novice, that is one dangerous set of cuts. I’d almost clamp it down in a sliding jig and cut it upside down on a table saw to be safer

When I was younger and working in construction in Florida before the Navy and my boss was doing a side project himself (when he barely ever worked before he’d already done like 40 years of hard labor in NY). He was making curved banisters for his staircase out of solid straight pieces of cherry hardwood. He would take a square piece, slice it in a curved pattern into 4 pieces. Two center cuts that he would curve the line back and forth. Then he goes “watch this” and he would flip the cuts around and put the outsides on the inside and the once straight piece of wood would now have a beautiful curve. He then made dowel crevices and put in little pegs with wood glue and glue them together. He would cover the cuts up with wood filler and sand smooth. Then the pieces looked like they were naturally curved. Ill never forget it!
