They can all get traded in the same season/off-season. Dubai completely botched the near term of the franchise with the Karlson deal, and with it any hopes they could contend during the remainder of their careers with the Penguins. The nicest and most loyal things they could do for each other is to present a united front to management to send them all out on their own separate ways for the best return possible. Pittsburgh needs to do this too. Otherwise they're in for a decade + stagnation, which based on history, could kill the franchise in the city.

@@SodaPopinksi77 Sid will probably re-sign for 2-4 more years so that the core can retire together (Malkin has 2 more years and Letang has 4). The team is committed to Pittsburgh until at least 2040 when the arena lease expires. No chance of them leaving for another 16 years which gives them plenty of time to turn things around although I doubt the team ever leaves.

I don't see Lemieux allowing Dubas to mess things up with Sid. If just one owner in this league knows what a true franchise player all the way to the end means to an organisation, its fanbase and the overall culture of a team, it's him. Plus Sid only earns 8.7M$ while still being one of the best players in the league. That's completely fathomable for an NHL GM, what Treliving has to deal with in Toronto with those insane amounts on just 4 guys not one of 'em being a superstar D is much more problematic. Back to Pittsburgh the Karlsson contract will also become more of a problem much sooner than extending Crosby for a few years at the same salary would be.

I'm an Avs fan and of course I'd love to see Sid come over and play but I just don't see how all that works between salary cap and Sids loyalty to the Pens. Maybe some odd trade at the end of this season if the Pens are way out and the salary cap hit is more manageable. But again I'd say it's a very low chance that Sid leaves or is traded from the Pens. The long stretch of a rebuild is painful. Plus there's generational talent coming up for the 25 to 27 draft. The penguins are top heavy invested , leaving them very thin down the lineup. Trading the future hall of fame players would instantly put them at the bottom unlike most other franchises hear the playoffs. They could theoretically be in the draft lottery this season. If Crosby who will already be known for his commitment to the Penguins, best player of his generation, so on and on and on!!!! Messier, I'm sure is happy looking back on his decision to play for the Rangers. Gretzky became responsible for hockey growing through the states and meeting just wife, due to playing elsewhere. Only can think of the selfish reason of comparing my teams greatest to others with the ace on my pocket of life long penguins. I would love a quick rebuild with young new exciting stars and the thrill of unknown potential and heights. I would also love to see Crosby play for his favorite childhood team. It's highly unlikely, but Pittsburgh should trade Malkin, Crosby and Letang in order to get the return for the future while they still can. Otherwise, these players will just retire and have zero value for the team. Plus, this would give each of them legit shots at another cup if they went to contenders. However, much of this is probably up to the players (not sure if they all have no trade clauses), and I'm interested to see what happens with Crosby. Cheers

Imagine him leaving to Toronto... however Sid leaving Pittsburgh would literally be the end of the Pittsburgh Penguins run in Pittsburgh. That poor city has had issues keeping it's team, and the only thing that has saved it were generational talents like Lemieux, Jagr and Crosby, hell just before Crosby was drafted, Lemieux was about to sell the team to Jim Bassille to move the team to Hamilton due to financial issues in Pittsburgh. Don't get me wrong Pittsburgh's lineup isn't the greatest but they will be better than last season. Last season if they had a average powerplay they would've easily had the third spot in the metro and thats not even considering Rakell and Smith who are suppose to score 25-30 goals had terrible down years where together they only combined for 28 ( In Rakels defence he had a injury problem last year ) Graves had his worst pro year, Rust had injury problems and their starting goalie disappeared around January-February and it was Karlssons first season getting use to playing there. You would have to imagine all of these problems would be better if not fully fixed next season. And still even with all those issues and a shit bottom 6 they only missed by 3 points. I'm not saying they'll be a hardcore contender but the team should bounce back

Let's be honest, there is actually a good chance for the Pens to make playoffs next year. They didn't miss playoffs that much this year, it went to the wire this year. Considering that at one point people counted the Pens out they still managed to make it close. Just look at the Oilers, they started the season as the second-worst team just ahead of the Sharks. But then pulled themselves together and finished the season being 2nd in their division, 5th in their conference, 9th in the league, made it into the Stanley Cup final and almost won it. I'm not saying that the Pens will win the Stanley Cup next year, but it's not hopeless. On a side note, Crosby is going to leave Pit in the next FA and signs with Chicago to mentor Bedard (Yes, I'm a Blackhawks fan).

I hope nobody does care if Sid leaves to take a crack at another cup before he hangs up the skates. I highly doubt he will, I always said that but it's not impossible. He might under the right circumstances and he's running out of time to win again. But as much as the guy loves to win, he's won a ton. I feel he probably can sleep well at night knowing his career was as good as it could be and we Penguins fans really are blessed to have had the guy for his whole career up to now. But if he decides he'd like to take a year or two in Colorado with his best friend Nate, I damn sure won't be upset for that. Go after it if you want, Sid. You don't owe anything to Pittsburgh at this point and I said the same thing about Tavares, Stamkos and Tkachuk leaving Calgary. If Crosby decided to leave the only people to blame would be management dating back to the end of Rutherford's time. Stamkos was a bit different as the team wanted to part ways more than anyone, but the fault again doesn't lie with the player but with management. I can't blame any player though if they decide to leave because their current team is failing to build around them. It's why I'd never blame Tavares for leaving, the guy gave his best years to a franchise that pissed away his talent. Sad coincidence that Lou really turned things around right as he left, but still, the point is valid.

He's already won everything there is to win. And bringing up Dubas trading away Reilly Smith, as if that signifies anything, is weird. Did you see Reilly Smith for the Penguins? He sucked. He started great, then was invisible for like nine tenths of the season. Getting Smith out was addition by subtraction. I hope they bring up Ty Smith and Sam Poulin, they are doing real good in the AHL and Smith played full seasons with New Jersey, maybe too early, but he's refined his defensive skills, he's most likely better than Shea or Graves and Ruhw- wait that one's gone. Sam Poulin has shown he has recovered from his physical and mental issue last season and I think he's ready. The Hextall era didn't seem to trust or were overly harsh with the few prospects they had, it's no wonder Alex Nylander exploded as soon as he was traded to Columbus, which pissed me off honestly. I don't see Sid relenting and maybe Geno is gonna bounce back, he's done that before when we thought he was getting too old in the covid days then had what we expected out of him in 22-23. I also think Karlsson shouldn't be mentioned as the core of the 3 legends they still have on ice, not because he can't be great, he surely can, but because he's in his early 30's which is different than mid or even more so late 30's (Malkin, Letang). One sign of a serious retool would have been to sign Stamkos, to give Crosby/Malkin guys more serious than Rust or Rackell (sorry Rickard, you're not what you used to be). There's really no big goal scorer left in free agency... Also a big if, but if Jarry gets back into the shape he had before his injury late in 21-22 which he seems to never have fully recovered from, even if he had excellent games last season, he's got to get that consistency back, it's weird to speak like that about a goalie who had, what, 6 shutouts last season, in a season where if they had made the playoffs, Nedeljkovic would have been in between the pipes, as he was favored to be so in the last third of the season. That's why I hope Poulin becomes what he's supposed to become and that they sign him to an NHL contract, same with Ty Smith, he's a good 2 way d-man and I'm not sure what he's still doing in the AHL, but after leading Wilkes-Barre in Points last season, they have to bring him up. Try *something* better than resigning a guy that I think never scored a goal like Shea. If they have decent enough wingers, Sid and Malkin can still be excellent playmakers, I like Drew O'Connor but he should be on a third line, not on the first one, and they definitely should have gotten a winger who can play, maybe one who just had a meh season like Smith and have him bounce back, but nah, irrelevant draft pick in 2 years for Smith isn't what should be done. Only thing positive from moves last year is that Bunting was playing very well with Malkin on the second line and on the PP, so that's a winger who could be even better next season. What would help is more consistency and making the playoffs and not missing them by 1 or 2 points like in the last 2 seasons, they only were tossed out of first round in 21-22 because of the disaster with Jarry injuring himself just before playoffs and DeSmith 2 minutes in game 1, Domingue did what he could but the bad goals started to appear, as they inevitably would even after the Pens being in the lead after game 3, he wasn't up to par and the rest of the team got demoralized. With the GM's they've had, it's not easy not to become so.

Their only chance of competing during the remainder of Crosbys career is doing exactly what they’re doing. Trying to surround them with good, key word good, young talent. Had they been smart enough to do this 3 years ago, they’d be in a great spot atm with a good mix. It might be a little too late, but it’s the only shot either way. They have some real bright young players who may be inside 2 years or less and making an impact.
