Autism From The Inside

The full video premieres tomorrow at 8:30am Melbourne.
-----------------------------------------------
👋Welcome to Autism From The Inside!!!
If you're autistic or think you or someone you love might be on the autism spectrum, this channel is for you!
I'm Paul Micallef, and I discovered my own autism at age 30.
Yes, I know, I don't look autistic. That's exactly why I started this channel in the first place because if I didn't show you, you would never know.
Autism affects many (if not all!) aspects of our lives, so on this channel, I want to show you what Autism looks like in real people and give you some insight into what's happening for us on the inside. We'll break down myths and misconceptions, discuss how to embrace autism and live well, and share what it's like to be an autistic person.
Join me as I share what I've found along my journey, so you don't have to learn it the hard way.
Make sure to subscribe so you won’t miss my new video every Friday and some bonus content thrown in mid-week too.

Exactly! Thank you for the gentle affirming way you talk about autism. I recently watched a different channel’s video about adhd and the comments were horrible, saying that to accommodate a neurodivergent person at all was “enabling”, that the person was clearly “narcissistic”, and that time blindness and other issues were “not real”. It deeply hurt me and made me feel unwelcome in this world. I’m grateful for the lovely community you’ve created for us to support each other and have a safe space where we feel understood. Thank you again for what you do. 💜

I’ve always suffered from other people’s expectations. They say “be yourself” but in actuality they don’t let you because once you try to be your authentic self all of a sudden you are labelled as weird which translates to “being yourself equals being weird, defective, abnormal” and it hurts

"I don't suffer from autism, I suffer from other people." I need to get that line printed on a shirt or a hoodie or a pin or something, just so I can say it without needing to

Call this off topic, but at one point NASA quite literally had to fit a square peg into a round hole to save the Apollo 13 crew.

I have been considering I have autism for a while now and I think I could flourish if I knew of a job that had stability and reliability. I keep getting mixed messages from the people around me that I'm at once too dumb for the jobs I do but also learn quickly, and I think it's just when things are slowed down and I have time to absorb them then I do well. I'm great at managing details but I don't understand managing people at all. I don't feel like I fit anywhere.

Nailed it. When I figured out I was autistic several years ago, it liberated me to work more within the framework of my autism. But...things like having a corporate job were still extremely challenging because I didn't fit in that round, neurotypical corporate mold.

Thankyou, I don’t think my therapist really believes I’m autistic I think she thinks I’m traumatised ( which I am ) it’s just something in her eyes when I talk about my newly found freedom.

I am the round hole, and the peg appeared to be round too, but was actually squarish. The peg had sustained some damage from years of trying to fit into other round holes, and they probably had some damage too. The issue was not identified until recently, when it was realized that the new hole had some damage from the poky edges of the squarish peg ... and realized it must now figure out how to accommodate the peg to keep any further damage from occurring to either piece.

It was Anne Hegarty, The Governess on British TV’s The Chase, who said something similar. “I don’t suffer from autism, I suffer from idiots! I have autism!”
