This lady reminds me of my ex-wife. Our household income was $85K a year, our house note was only $980 ($169K home). But yet we're broke every month because she refuses to admit she's overspending. Every month she spends $2,000 on clothes, shoes, make up, tanning, gym membership, purses (lots of purse and shoes) and her coffee (Starbuck). And after paying for car note, electricity bills, insurance and so on, we're broke at the end of the month. Thank God, she files for divorce and left. And then I became rich again. Life is good.

Dave's point about telling a friend/writing down your problem in detail and instantly coming up with an answer is completely true, and its similar to something Jordan Peterson says. You're still trying to figure out the problem as youre describing it, and by the time it's concrete whether that be in words or on the page, its easier to tackle. That's why part of being a good friend is to just listen to your friends...dont need to suggest solutions, just offer them your ear.

That was a POWERFUL psychology lesson right at the very end! Unknowns are TERRIFYING and I never thought of the budget that way but it's actually making the unknowns known so you aren't stuck with paralysis of this looming fear in the background. All of a sudden, with a budget, that fear is front and center and you get to deal with it head on! The devil you know vs. the devil you don't.

This! I recently moved after graduating university (debt-free). As I was going through the leasing process and signing up for services electric, internet, etc, I was afraid I wouldn't have any money left over to build an emergency fund. After listing everything on an Excel spreadsheet, I realized that I'll have over $1000/month to throw at the emergency fund. Now that I've started the job, I appear to have overestimated my tax withholding so will be able to build it even faster. I haven't gone through enough payroll cycles yet to be willing to update my budget, but I'll figure that out soon enough.

She move feom Toronto which houses are overpriced, and went to New Brunswick which have affordable houses 🏘 but purchased an expensive house in New Brunswick. New Brunswick have so much affordable house and cost of living lower than Toronto. She need to make a budget and stick to it.

She lives in Canada eh. Everything over there is more expensive than the US. By a lot, like 25% minimum. And I'm not talking about the exchange rate. Converting to USD, most things at the supermarket, gas, just about everything costs more over there. I was just there and I couldn't believe that gas was like $4.50 a gallon when I did the liter conversion. You would have to live there to understand that their money does not go as far as it does over here.

I live in Canada and confirm it's actually worse than you imagine. Gas is $4.80 ($USD) a gallon in Ontario. Also the average monthly mortgage payment is now roughly $4k/month. You can't leave out that 50% of our income goes to taxes as well.

@Jane-rh7tc
@Jane-rh7tc 3 ай бұрын
because ppl treat variable rate like a fixed rate, they think once they get it they just keep making payments for the next 30 yrs and be done. If they are that lazy, then yes, they just get a fixed rate ane call it a day. We got variable rate for the past 10 yrs, the difference was we pay attention to the interest rate, once our low rate term is near the end, we refinance to another variable rate, we kept doing this until we can get a low rate 15 yr term rate

Oh wow, I didn't know they could accept international calls, another 👍 for Dave / Ramsey Solutions. It's true the situation in Canada is crazy with the average cost of homes being absurdly overpriced. Yeah she could have done the budgeting herself...but she wanted to talk to Dave haha. I wish we got a better example of an international call! I love how he knows exactly how to interrupt her to redirect her without being rude. Genius.

I'm on the other side of Canada, Vancouver, BC. I too, bought a place in 2021, paid 500k for a 2 bdrm apt. I signed up for a variable at 1.5%, it's now 6.25. I've been getting healthy raises each year, set to make 95k this fall. I've been on a variable adjustable rate, so I've been able to balance my books and budget effectively in order to continue making payments and still save for trips etc. My apt is 50 years old, however, when I moved in, it was rain screened and the sellers paid the 42k levy, and my place was renovated 2 years before moving in. So I haven't had to do anything to my place, and I'm also debt free, aside from my mortgage. Yes, it's insanely pricey here, but if you follow a budget and don't get lazy, it's possible to flourish anywhere around the world. There is your "better example of an 'international' call." lol
