This game is an underrated masterpiece. The magnum opus of the entire franchise, if you ask me.

I prefer PMD2 over PMD1 and Rescue Team DX, but I fucking love the Rescue Team games as well. Yes, PMD1 and 2 (and DX) are absolutely underrated and in my opinion are some of the greatest video games ever made. The story is very occupying and lovely, has great messages and is pretty wholesome. The artwork both visually and especially audibly is a masterpiece. The games are huge. There is a big story and an even bigger post game with another huge story. There is so much to do and find. Really difficult to find something comparable and it makes me sad to see games like CoD or FIFA always taking the cake in popularity.
@skateboardmd91632 жыл бұрын
For PMD and all the other spin-offs this is de facto the best one. Although it's pretty hard to put this game toe-to-toe with Gen 5 imo.
@shadoukoa50452 жыл бұрын
@@skateboardmd9163 lol everyone hated Gen 5 until like last year when they announced Gen 4 remakes. People went from "omg Gen 4 best gen, love it so much, Gen 5 bad, bad designs, linear etc." To "omg Gen 5 best gen love it so much, Gen 6 bad, too easy". Like whatever you want, it's just an annoying process of going over this every couple of years.
@skateboardmd91632 жыл бұрын
@@shadoukoa5045 I think that's just the cycle of a certain generation of kids growing up and their age group being the one to dominate the internet until the next age group grows up. I've fucking loved Gen 5 since they were my first new games and never understood the hate lol, like some of the designs were bad but plenty were absolutely amazing. Also I don't believe Gen 5 only started being loved last year, it started being loved around Let's Go's release from my experience.
@billcipher1472 жыл бұрын
@@skateboardmd9163 Fair enough. For me, Gen 4 and Gen 5 is where the main series peaked, so I definitely get where you're coming from. However, the messages of this story and the sheer amount of likeable and memorable characters in this game give it a slight edge over those, at least if you ask me. Which isn't to say that I think the rest of the series or Gen 4 and 5 are bad. Far from it, in fact. Some of my earliest and best video game memories came from these games. PMD2 really is just that good.

I remember crying. Loneliness is such a draining emotion. It can eat away at you until you're empty. Once that happens, it's like you sit in life holding B+A to regain your health, but instead you just watch everyone move around you. Keep going. There's always another floor. There's always more chances to meet another friend.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon... I wish I could wipe my memory clean and play the first game for the first time again... It was the first game that taught me what emotional masterpieces video games could be... This moment... The moment of loss... It genuinely made me cry when I first played it... And then genuine shouts of joy I made when I was reunited with my partner... The memory makes my Cyndaquil heart swell with pride to have called them my friend.
@dawnseeker176 Жыл бұрын
my first encounter with mystery dungeon was the release of pokemon red rescue team. it was red rescue team because blue rescue team was for the ds (which i didn't have at the time) and red rescue team was for the gameboy advance. red rescue team was my first introduction to the emotional destruction that is the pokemon mystery dungeon series. then my second experience with it was explorers of sky where once again it broke me across the knee.

I hope one day, we get a remaster of Explorers in the same style of Rescue Team DX. I really liked the storybook aesthetic for it, and they already have a majority of the models for Pokémon in Gen 4 since so many of evolutionary lines branching over the first 3. That means there’d only be upwards of 60 Pokémon models left to really refine, pretty much just the stuff between Turtwig to Abomasnow-with exceptions made to Budew & Roserade, Ambipom, Honchkrow, Mismagius, Happiny, MimeJr., Bonsly, and the long list of evolutions from Weavile-Froslass-and then just the remaining legendary Pokémon. And then just add in Sylveon since it was part of Eevee’s evolutionary line in the last remaster. And as you said, orchestrated remixes or scores to utilize the switch’s hardware by comparison to what was available previously on the DS would make the existing tear-jerkers in PMD2’s score shine even more!! I hope this becomes a reality one day.

I expected my character to go away at the end, much like is common place for a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game, but when my partner was taken away by Xerneas instead, as this song played when the credits rolled, I actually cried. And that's not something that happens very often. The only other time I played a game that made me cry was Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 when Neji died (I expected that though). To be honest, I'm glad that they allowed for you to bring them back after the main story, because if they hadn't, I would have been pretty upset. To be honest, because of this ending, I actually couldn't bring myself to play it for the next three days until I was certain that I could bring "Sparky" back.
