I spoke with a Ford employee after this video and they said that the standard pack should hit 150kW on a DCFC. The extended pack hit 173kW delivered. Also, the largest problem with the Pro trim for a normal consumer is that they aren’t making enough of them for personal use! Most are being built for fleets.

Thanks for the update! Good to know about charging. Only complaint was it felt like half the video was talking about how great a deal it was and that you should buy it ... but you really can't :( Tried to buy a Pro, sold out in Wave #1 which had ~1500 invites. Settled for standard XLT. Still a good deal and cheaper than comparable ICE XLT (~10K cheaper when including Fed Tax Credit).

I don't believe they'll continue selling this truck for $40k, if they continue selling to retail customers at all. It's an absurd value compared to any other truck on the market, let alone EV (and they still have the fed credit!). I think they are making less than 1,000 for retail customers in 2022. I could see it at $48k, but $40k is just insane in the context of the EV market. I wanted to get a Pro but ended up with a Lariat because the Pros sold out in ordering wave one (of six).

Regarding the comments on towing: I have a 4200 lb boat for fishing. I use it 1-2 times a month. So, most of my driving is not towing. But, when I tow, I'm driving 120-150 miles round-trip with that boat. Without increasing the installed base of charging stations that can accept a vehicle towing a trailer, recharging the truck on those trips isn't practical. So, to make sure I don't fully discharge the battery, I would need a 200-mile range while towing 5000 lbs for it to be practical. Respectfully, the "most driving doesn't involve towing" comment misses a bit of the mark for what people like me really need in our tow vehicle. Otherwise, I think this video is a very good representation of the vehicle and it makes me more optimistic that there will be an all-electric vehicle that works for me. Thanks.

Let alone the “pro extended range” that seems to be going exclusively to fleet sales. I agree it’s an absurd deal for 40k but it’s going to be so extremely difficult to find one and get it at MSRP I really can’t get my hopes up. I assume they’ll sell a handful so people can post on social media about them actually selling and then keep them at less than 1-2% of their total F150 Lightning sales the first few years. Can only imagine what they’ll go for on the used market
@philorgneopolotin87622 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you said about the price. I have no idea how they’re making money on this at all. It’s cheaper than a base model 3, EV6, Ioniq5, Kia Niro, etc. _and_ has more horsepower, better acceleration, a larger battery pack more cargo space and is an entire damn full sized pickup truck. They have to be losing like $10,000 minimum on each one of these. If you can get one of these base model, or especially the base+extended range model somehow, they’ll sell like crazy on the used market. If they were actually selling the extended battery on the base model and not just in fleet sales, I’d say it’s hands down the best deal on the market right now. The value proposition is outrageous and people should snatch these up ASAP before Ford updates their pricing to break even at the very least

Ever stop to consider that an all electric vehicle is naturally CHEAPER than one with an ICE, transmission, gas tank, filters, intake, emissions controls, linkages, feedback system, oil system, giant cooling system, drive shafts, etc...hopefully you get the point. ALL that crap balanced against a MOTOR with one moving part, no transmission, no drive axles, and no array of ancillary equipment just to support that overly complex, Rube Goldberg piston engine. Ford used the same panels as on all their other trucks...that keeps it cheap. All the whiz-bang electronic doodads such e-screens and fancy lighting costs mere PENNIES to include for a $10K markup. The ONLY thing that used to be expensive is the battery and the cost of those has come down markedly in just the last few years and will continue to drop as next-gen tech becomes incorporated. So I am not at all surprised that Ford can sell an electric F150 for $10,000 MORE than their ICE engine version and everyone ooos and ahhhs over how inexpensive it is and how much you're getting for the money....just fully conditioned consumers!
@randallscott-key8022 жыл бұрын
Oh, and UNLIKE ICE engines where eeking out more horsepower means more expense, electric motors making 400 hp combined and oodles of torque is easy....the BATTERY is where the power comes from - being able to discharge enough "power" fast enough. The entire "formula" for making big power for cheap with electric vehicles is SO much simpler than ICE...
@ROFLWAFFLE19112 жыл бұрын
@@randallscott-key802 I see what you mean but simpler doesn't always mean cheaper. Those "simple" batteries have a lot of rare earth materials in them like cobalt that are only found in certain countries which makes procurement of these more difficult than typical components like aluminum and steel and thus, more expensive. Toyota uses the cheaper, more durable batteries but they don't have near the performance or range as the high-end batteries.

One thing about towing, yes the range in a gas truck is horrible too while towing anything, however, you can power up a gas truck in 5 minutes while in one of these it would take 40! I've been thinking the same thing. The Maverick would be great with a long range battery. Simple towing of 2-4000 lbs.. would be perfect for most of us. Who hauls heavy stuff with a small truck? I have a Maverick on order. I ordered my gas truck in January. It was supposed to be delivered last month. I'm not even on the list and was told another ten months. I'm thinking of cancelling the purchase and looking for something else. I don't want a large truck because I really don't need it anymore. A small truck is perfect for me.

I have a reservation on one of these. You skipped over the XLT trim, which is the version I'm looking at. I was just about to install a whole house backup generator, and the cost (generator, cement pad, wiring, propane tank & line) is similar to stepping up to the XLT with the larger battery. I will say that the XLT package is expensive (about $13K over the Pro) when all you really get is cloth power seats, carpets, running boards, 360° camera, and exterior lighting.

Astounding value and excellent for the industry. Ford is trying the hardest of the "big" three with GM & Stellantis lagging hard. Ford has two long range EVs in mass production in the CUV & Truck space. Good for them if they get it right. I'd rather this was "idling" in my neighborhood than a 15-25 mpg hunk of fossil juice drinking engine. Since the Expedition is based on the F150, I CANNOT WAIT to see these in a full size SUV format. Would be ideal for a giant family or for hotel shuttles, Uber XL type vehicles.

@jeffbeasley82352 жыл бұрын
It makes a lot of sense what Ford did with the PM motors and battery packs. Based on the big pack having more energy and it producing more power with the same motors, it must simply have a couple of extra modules in series, bumping up the total pack voltage. This keeps costs down because the modules are all the same and it lets them modularize the pack. Peak (low speed) torque doesn't change because this is not affected by voltage. And the front wheels spin because they put the same motors front and rear presumably with the same gearing too. This is not ideal for most situations because especially with a high center of gravity almost all of the traction at low speed is on the rear tires. But it's cheaper than producing 2 different motors. These design decisions wouldn't have gone any other way to make the most affordable truck.

My experience with a Ford Fusion Energi, is that Ford does not publish their battery warranty and does not stand behind their product. I owned a Ford Fusion Hybrid from 2010 to 2016 put 100,000 miles on it and never had a problem. I bought a used Fusion Energi with about a year and 22K miles left on the 3/36. In 2018 with ~40k miles on it, the mileage on battery went from ~19 miles to ~12 miles, a 37% reduction in mileage. All maintenance had been done on time by Ford. I took it to the dealer and they gave me a loaner and tried to diagnose the problem. After 3-4 days of diagnosis, the dealer called and said Ford claimed the 37% loss of battery range was within warranty specifications. I tried everything I could to get the warranty details so I could see what an acceptable of range loss is. No one could produce the documentation. I tired of the run around and traded in the car for a Honda Clarity PHEV, which I still drive 4 years later getting the same battery range as when new (~.48 miles per charge). I would highly recommend to anyone considering purchasing an electric vehicle from Ford to get the detail on the battery warranty. You need to understand what loss of range will trigger a battery repair/replacement. To me a loss of 37% in four years and ~40,000 miles when the warranty is for 7 years and 100,000 miles is a manufacturing defect and should be covered under warranty.

The one advantage (from a traveling standpoint) of the 80% cliff, is it would free up chargers faster. I shudder to think of traveling on a holiday in an EV. As an ex-Tesla M3 SR+ owner, the longest trip I made was 6,100 miles and not always on the main roads and in triple digit temperatures. Because of the distance between superchargers in 2019 (longest was 204 miles. had to drive 55 for 1/3 the trip. arrived with 4%) I had to charge to 90% or 100% several times, but for the most part 80% or lower.
