Not the ideal behavior for sure but keep in mind pretty much all carmakers do this. The real difference is it's not hard to find good things to say about Toyota, Honda, Mazda, or Subaru and as long as it's a mostly positive review the marketing folks can live with that and maintain engagement (they have bosses too and ultimately they can't spend money to let people shit all over the product). But it's genuinely difficult to find good things to say about Jeep at times as it doesn't matter how good or well-intended the design is we all know the implementation is poor, it's only a matter of how poor it is.
@ericanderson17532 күн бұрын
It’s not childish. It’s shrewd. Did the marketing department design and engineer the vehicle? What is their job? If they can do a thing which will have a negative impact on perception and sales, or do a thing that will have a positive impact on perception and sales, they have a responsibility to do the latter. Or we could all leave our jobs every time our companies make questionable or bad product decisions.

Yup, it happens again and again that when one car reviewing channel says something negative that they are 1) not invited to press drives anymore, 2) get a friendly recommendation to remove the video or 3) get treated harshly or ghosted by them if they are smaller creators. It is extremely embarassing, especially the case with carwow where they uncovered dangerous flaws with the braking system throwing errors and not working correctly. But at least that video got over a million views before being deleted, so enough people got to see it. It is a really bad look for this company. I’m impressed with the value the Wagoneer S offers from a feature perspective. Heated/ventilated/massaging seats up front. Heated/ventilated seats in back. Passenger display. HVAC display. Camera mirror. Heads up display. Less than $75,000. That’s not bad at all! The problem is that STELLANTIS didn’t understand how to make a proper electric vehicle even though they gave us features from the Jeep grand Cherokee 4XE parts bin. When you release an electric vehicle now, it’s pretty much expected that you’re going to have better than 400 V architecture. When you release an electric vehicle now, it’s expected that the tuning be done in a manner to prevent wheel spin and to deliver power directly to the road. We’ll spin does nothing but grind your tires to dust. And that’s always been a big problem with early electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are heavy and they go harder on the Taires, which is part of the reason why tire inflation tends to be higher than normal ECE cars. We have the Wagoneer S in blue. We have a Mercedes EQS. I also have a Cadillac LYRIQ. But the major issue that I see which is not inherent to the card itself is the fact that STELLANTIS doesn’t have its own charging network. When you buy one of these cars, you better make certain that you get your charger installed in your house. The EVgo network is trash. Electrify America is only a little bit better. The best network is Teslasuperchargers and they charge a fortune for you to use them.

31:36 I would say that "different from Tesla" is not synonymous with "bad." I feel like there's a bit of Tesla groupthink going on here because a lot people don't travel the way Tesla owners have gotten accustomed to traveling, and that is to say, tethered to the Supercharger Network. The landscape of public charging is changing rapidly, and it's not 2018-2020 anymore. Even if it were, at that point, it was possible to travel in a non-Tesla EV without using a route planner. Some people simply want to see the fast charging stations that are available on their route, and they have no interest in optimizing their trip based on the fasted cannonball run time. And they definitely have no interest in optimizing their trip around the needs of the car. That's not how ICE drivers travel, so asking them to adopt Tesla's model for travel and navigation is likely a non-starter. Especially in light of recent events.
@vegajf51Күн бұрын
The problem is many people coming from ICE cars just get in and drive, they need a car to make EV driving easy for them. This will quickly disappoint and feed into the anti-EV fud. If an EV hater drove this it would confirm a lot of their bias, if an EV hater drove a Tesla or Rivian they would walk away pleasantly surprised.
@newscoulomb3705Күн бұрын
@@vegajf51 We're making the same argument but coming to a different conclusion. The use case for this EV is, hop in and drive. If it's less than 300 miles, no worries. Just charge at home. If it's a road trip, when you need to stop or are starting to get low on range (say less than 100 miles), bring up the "show fast chargers along your route" feature, and it will give you options of where you can stop. That is FAR more intuitive for people coming from ICE cars, and it's been primarily how I've traveled in a non-Tesla EV for the last 8 years. What consumers coming from ICE don't want, though, is to be made to feel that they have to adjust how they travel solely for the benefit of the car. Getting to chose between a 31 Flavors, Buc-ee's, Pilot, or even Walmart when selecting their next charging stop means they can make their trip about their needs, not just the charging needs of the car. It's also worth noting that Tesla's route planning is NOT customer centric. It's focused on keeping people in the Tesla ecosystem while reducing the time-based load on their Supercharger Network.

@@newscoulomb3705 I disagree, as someone who is a Turo host we get constant complaints on the Kia Niro, and ID4. We get the opposite on the Tesla's, as an EV enthusiast we shouldn't want to feed into the anti-EV crowd's bias. The kia and VW are great quality cars but are badly implemented EVs and ICE drivers come back feeling like it's a lifestyle change to own that car, they make you want an ICE car for road trips. I am also in Oklahoma so a DC charger isn't always perfectly along your route.
@newscoulomb3705Күн бұрын
@@vegajf51 Your past experiences might be leading you astray here. Neither of your non-Tesla EVs had plug and charge, and they both barely get over 200 miles on a charge, especially on long trips. Add to that that the Niro EV is an extremely slow charging car by modern EV standards, and you have a recipe for disappointment. The big factors you need to be aware of now are a movement toward universal plug and charge, credit card reader requirements on each charger, and a significant buildout of public fast chargers along interstate routes. As I noted in my original comment, it's not 2020 anymore, and things are developing quickly. Even in Oklahoma, we're looking at three to four 350+ kW charging sites every 100 or so miles of interstate, with a plethora of different site hosts to chose from. Get a 300-mile non-Tesla EV with 10-80% charging in under 30 minutes for your Turo fleet, and you might be surprised at the feedback today.

I suspect a lot of uncommitted car companies are just trying to meet emissions targets that they knew would be going away. 😢

Well, I will say the exterior looks and interior cabin design blows the doors off of the Telsa Y. Considering it's their first model release, I'll give them some slack and time to tighten up the infotainment UI and charging mapping....things that can easily be improved over time.

All of these issue are giving cost cutting to the max. I know this car cost less than 30k to build and they want 70 for all of these issues. I can’t believe how many people support Stellantis it’s absolutely insane. Explains why the Hornet isn’t selling.

You actually want identical front and rear motors. Rear for the "go", front for the "whoa". (full regenerative braking, where the "whoa" matches the "go") This is necessary, because of weight transfer during acceleration and braking.
@johnsullivan86732 күн бұрын
Tesla doesn’t do that for their performance models
@vincentrobinette15072 күн бұрын
@@johnsullivan8673 Tesla is looking for much more forward acceleration, than the Wagoneer. The regenerative braking of a Tesla is similar, or slightly stronger, but has much better acceleration. Tesla doesn't have "full regenerative braking", because it's whoa doesn't match its go, but it still has excellent regenerative braking. The high performance Tesla models have 2 permanent magnet rear motors, and a single induction motor with differential in the front.
@johnsullivan86732 күн бұрын
@ nobody relies on full regenerative braking. Everyone has blended braking. How are you gonna pump large amounts of current into a high SOC battery pack?
@vincentrobinette15072 күн бұрын
@@johnsullivan8673 You can't! That's why you need to allow "hill top reserve" if you live at the top of a steep hill. If you charge an EV to 100%, you don't get ANY regen! To get 100% regen, you need to use cruise control, or, in the case of a Chevrolet Bolt, you use driver assist, without ever touching the brake pedal. (It can hold back as hard as it can accelerate, if the battery is down a bit, and at the right temperature) If the battery is fully charged, that feature simply won't work. You have to use the brake pedal, and use friction. I've never driven this new Wagoneer, so I don't know if it has that feature.

Good to see them trying. They have had a lot of technology issues going back to the pandemic chip shortage. The biggest change here from their ICE vehicles is offering OTA updates vs having to take it in for a recall 👌🏾

Avenger is the Jeep we should have gotten here you guys couldn’t remember the name of. I still don’t know why we don’t get it here. You’d think Stellantis would actually want an affordable Jeep they could lead the segment with. They could have dominated with a sharp-looking compact SUV that comes in full EV, hybrid and gas configurations, at a lower price than the Equinox EV. It’s no wonder they’re in trouble, as customers continue to complain about outrageous Jeep prices. Another fantastic video, guys!
