These tests are worth gold for their information! Good job, Björn. 👍 Can you do this to a MEB car (like Id.4 or Enyaq) too, please? I'd be *very* interested to learn how my Enyaq would die. Too scared to try it myself. 😄 5% SoC is the lowest I've gone so far, with no issues at that point. But I don't have anything like the EcoFlow unit for recovery, to go much lower than that

Bjorn, maybe try to talk to someone who manages the store so that you can always use the parking lot when the store is closed. I know that in my home country, a man who tests various electric cars got permission to use the parking lot on Sunday, when the store is closed. Greetings from Poland. Thanks for what you do, it's very useful.

You schould try the Ioniq 5 with Solar roof... Drive it till it's dead and park it in the Sun. Would be interesting to see if it can charge up itself and how long it would take to get it back to a driveable state just by it's solar roof.

The reason why each car takes different power from the cable is, the cable only signals how many amps the car is allowed to take, using PWM on the signal pin. It's up to the car to interpret the PWM, measure the amount of amps it actually takes, adjust the charger, etc ‒ and each one is calibrated a bit differently and each one has different amount of erring on the safe side (eg. taking a bit less) not to trip the fuse. Some likely can do it only in certain steps (I'd suspect this particular one is one of them, that's why it did only something like 8 amps instead of 10 because maybe it can do exactly 8, exactly 10, but measured 9.9 on the PWM…).

Most of EVSE has feedback from amp meter on the line and changes PWM to set exact current. Every car interpret PWM signal slightly different so the EVSE has to fake more or less amps on PWM signal to get the right current. Cheaper EVSE does not do this. Just output PWM with pulse width that is 10A and done. I think your cable is this second case.

7 km is not what I have expected, and you drove only with 20 km/h, not 60-70 km/h
@tesla-spectre
@tesla-spectre 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would also say that is actually relatively high consumption at that low speed. SoC: 1% of 106kWh is 1.06kWh so it is roughly if I calculated corr3ctly 151Wh/km which would be for me a bit high for only 20kmh. BUT: I saw in some youtube video (forgot which) that some carmakers seem to not have a steady and proportional display of %: seems that for some 1% at very high or very low SoC means less kWh than say in the 10-90% range. Do not know whether that applies here. But cool solution with thr short boost charge. Björn, is it maybe a better solution then to get say a Battery which only weighs say 5kg, has about 0.5kWh and then really use it as a total emergency. 0.5kWh should bring you 2-3km on most EVs at very low speed. Or max 10kg with maybe 1kWh capacity... that gives you a comfortable range of 5-8km.
@celeron55
@celeron55 2 жыл бұрын
Very slow speeds are equally wasteful as very fast speeds. All the constant loads in the car start to eat up more capacity per km. It's best to drive around 50km/h, that way you get the furthest. Depends on the car of course.
@tesla-spectre
@tesla-spectre 2 жыл бұрын
@@celeron55 in my experience depends on speed and duration. of course 5-10kmh all the time esp with HVaC is very inefficient. but rolling from like 20kmh onwards at least in my car is very efficient (like 80-100Wh/km) and as you say up to 50-60kmh the same more or less

With a spare fuel canister it would handle this just fine. A 1 liter canister would have about 10 kWh energy, of which 2 kWh would actually go into moving the car (80% going to waste...) i.e. the canister would be equivalent to Björn's 2kWh EcoFlow.

In theory kwh/h is also correct mathematically you just can remove both "h" is it is h / h. And for a better adaptation of the e mobility in the normal people, kwh/h is better as it is easier to calculate for joe average how long he has to charge. As example: car charges 50kwh/h. So joe knows that he has to stay an hour to get 50kwh. He has not to bother about how to calculate 50kw charging power to time
@ZleFox
@ZleFox 2 жыл бұрын
joe should know what W is and that literally wh is the amount you get in an hour. All electrical bills are using this for 100 years. You would think that people are quite used to it. You don't buy a 75Wh/h lightbulb in 1993
