The woods are a wild place. If you grow up next to them, or even in them, you get conditioned at a young age not to go in them at night. Personally, I think a good chunk of that is practicality. It's very easy to get lost them in at night. Especially when you start to panic. But even still, strange stuff does happen in them. Some places, it's like the forest is playing tricks on you. especially in the mountains. I'd just steer clear of the mountains in general. Especially the Appalachian.

The main thing about sitting in the dark, is that the human brain hardwired to see patterns even when there aren't any. So, when someone says they sat in a dark room and saw shapes and figures, they could have. Certainly possible. Their brain could have also been trying to find patterns in something that doesn't have any. The best way to figure out what is going on in pitch black darkness is not to look at anything directly. Your peripheral view has better night vision. It also takes around 20-40 mins sitting in total darkness before the eyes adjust.

unfortunately alot of these attractions, especially ones like the borden house have RF transmitters in the attic or basement or "employees only rooms" and what have you. My personal opinion:For the borden house, I would imagine all of the rooms are bugged and the employee can trigger the rf transmitter with a switch or something when they hear you ask a question Edit: 99% confirmed my suspicion when tyler did that "what he remembered from the exorcist" exorcism and everything magically stopped. So the first asylum I’ve been there and I can truly say it is so real. On one hallway that I saw then running through when I was there I had my shirt tugged twice which the lady then mentioned the ghost in that hallways likes to mess with women or people with long hair. The funniest part is I'm 90% sure that most skeptics would stop being skeptics if they walked into a really haunted place like this, alone. Just 30 minutes to an hour. Unexplainable shit would happen in all directions and they would believe in ghosts by the time they left the building

The problem is, in environments we're not used to, our brain is hyper alert and will make something out of nothing. Even with sleeping in a new place we aren't as rested the first time because our brain is in a pseudo fight or flight mode. So yeah, being alone in a rundown building in the dark woll definitely put you on edge and your brain will work overtime to protect you

@@davidbarton8012 there's non-dark and "spooky" places that are genuinely haunted too. Places with running electricity and water, where the spirits will very willingly interact with you. You just need to find the right environment, honestly anyone who jumps headfirst into the "scariest" haunted place, will without a doubt psych themselves out and potentially push themselves further into scepticism. My advice is to just approach it respectfully and as open minded as you can allow yourself to get. You'll definitely feel/witness something if you're in the right location.
