Man, I feel like if someone can’t fathom the idea of having fun as an adult without alcohol and expensive food, that says more about them than the affordable “dry” events and activities. I saw this as someone with a cousin who is both a lawyer and alcoholic. Guess which one he became first. Hint: he didn’t pass the BAR exam at a bar.

It's actually odd. I worked for a lawfirm back in the 90's and they banned alcohol at company events way back then due to liablity issues. Previously, they'd have a monthly cocktail party.

I used to work in a law firm as a filing clerk and I can completely confirm the whole alcohol thing. Every event was like a bar/restaurant with alcohol, a house party with booze, and they even did a post-work happy hour where they just drank beers in the parking lot

@@gogetablack5384my former employer had a policy of refusing to give out info on employees to anyone due to privacy issues & for proprietary reasons Anyone claiming to be a relative & expressing concern for not being able to reach them could leave their contact info & a message to be passed along The main issue was, you don’t know who may have a problematic relationship they are in no or low contact with & you don’t want to be sued for giving out info to their abuser or stalker

Story 2: I think everybody sucks. George’s mother had no business butting into his life. There’s no way she “pulled him aside” to talk to him, when the girlfriend was there to add her 2 cents. OP is leaving stuff out because of the girlfriend’s reaction. OP thinking the girlfriend should have consoled Alice is also weird. She didn’t really know the child. George sucks because he left his daughter there. I think the worst was OP because she started the whole mess because she sided with her daughter-in-law. I’m also worried George offed himself and she seems totally unconcerned.

Well, someone had to be involved in his “whiny brat” children’s lives and it seems his ex and mother are the ones responsible for raising his kids. No wonder he ran? Because he’s being held accountable? Why bring a new gf over with your child to your parents house, after having not discussed marriage with her, get annoyed your daughter wants her parents together, complain about your sisters wedding and then leave without your child when things aren’t going your way. Halloween is a "fun" holiday. There's nothing "sacred" about it like Christmas or whatever. It's not meant to be taken so seriously. The fact that the boss is complaining about how juvenile it all it goes to show how out of touch she is (and pretty much all other lawyers)
