Well, the reason that this happened, is the system that separates siblings and doesn't inform them that they have a biological sibling. They didn't choose this, and now it's their choice what they want to do.

Thank you. It’s ridiculous. It’s sad that so many politicians scream “Think about the kids” only to ignore them after they’re born and I’m talking about 95% of all politicians are like this. It’s almost a none issue and that’s just sad as hell

I could not even begin to imagine the internal confusion and pain that they're going through. This is definitely a choice that they have to make and nobody has the right to tell them what they should or should not do. Especially in a case like this. Where I'm from there's a saying "the horse is already out of the barn "so there's no sense in closing it now.

it's unlikely they were separated at the same time. probably boyfriend got taken first and then OP after she was born. some people can be declared incompetent to raise children and will have kids immediately taken away once any are born. that said their parents must be seriously fucked up for that to happen.

My brothers and I were put into foster care at 12(older bro), 8(me), and 5(youngest bro) years old. The foster mother we were placed with immediately got into our faces when the agent left to tell us "if you don't behave, I'll have you all SEPARATED! Then you'll NEVER see your siblings again! Just remember that SOME foster families aren't as NICE as this one."

fun fact, falling in love with long lost relatives is actually so common that there's a phenomenon named after it! genetic sexual attraction. being separated from your relatives for most of your life means that your brain fails to develop something called the the 'westermarck effect'. this effect essentially exhibits that people tend to not develop attraction towards those they lived with before age six.

It makes me wonder if that chemical that let's you recognize your sibling does still actually work if they were raises separately. Traditionally, this chemical is meant to lock out the ability to feel sexual or romantic desire towards them. I wonder if the chemical does still yet produced in absence of the other sibling, allowing them to feel connected to each other despite never having triggered that shut down response. Pure speculation, no tests have been done on this, but it's a weird as fuck how many verified stories there are like this

S1: I get why OP and the BF stayed together, but the redditors saying "well actually, you could still have kids..." should definitely not be giving that advice IMO. I can still remember an anthropology class I took in college, and talking about taboos in various cultures, and the only "universal taboo" that exists across all cultures is incest. What constitutes as incest varies, but it's a universal taboo for a reason, and that is because you can't control how genetics will mesh together, so it's considered "too much of a risk" to procreate with family. Just don't.

Yeah the likelihood of _their_ kids being messed up vs another generation of incest, the odds are in their favor, but yeah, there still is a possibility and it's just not fair to the kids even if they are fine, you know? Like you know they'd be products of incest, that's not something you do to someone you love. There are a lot more kids of incest than we like to admit, because family often assaults family, not strangers. They are often fine. A lot of the taboo comes from the social aspect, since we are social creatures.

That husband is beyond evil, I hope folk find out about what he’s done and he gets shunned by everyone he knows, ain’t no way I would be silent about that level of cruelty. As a child abuse survivor this was the only real way I got folk to not only protect me from my abusers, but get some form of justice because they got beyond publicly shamed, my mother and brother were called out by others who knew them for other behaviours, folk spoke out about my brothers cruelty that they’d also suffered (for me it was extreme violence leading to hospitalisation several times, but for women who knew him it tended to be sexual assault), and only one woman stood up for my brother because “he isn’t that bad” Lemme tell you, everyone already knew they were sleeping together but folk rightly called her out for her behaviour, asking how she could possibly allow such a violent drunk to be around her children when he’d terrified my nieces and friends kids, how she could put her kids safely second over a toxic relationship, but she didn’t care, she claimed everyone was “lying” (despite a MOUNTAIN of evidence)… all for her to break up with him because he was toxic, abusive, terrified her kids, was violent towards her. So he’s been ousted from his social group and nobody wants to talk to him, then everyone rallied to make sure I will always be protected and he can’t get anywhere near me. Sometimes it’s the only way when you know police action wouldn’t lead to anything, I’m from Scotland and the police here are pretty good but I wouldn’t get any justice from the courts, they’ve arrested him before for his violence against me but I was much younger and too terrified to press charges, plus it was very he-said-she-said, so social ostracism worked because he relied heavily on everyone being compliant and letting him do whatever he wanted. That’s what OP can do about her ex husband, tell people he was not only a violent drunk, but he literally poured her daughters ashes down the toilet out of spite, because the social ostracism from that would force him to either get help or he’ll die lonely (either works honestly) and gives OP the chance to get a support system. I’m glad she is however getting some legal action against him, but the social ostracism could not only lead to her getting support, but would force him to acknowledge his actions. At the very least I’d recommend domestic violence support groups online, these are free to join (Facebook has a lot of these groups, I use child abuse survivor groups) and offer so much support, as OP desperately needs love and support in her life right now.

Was low contact for years before going fully no contact and just went “let’s make a well written lengthy post so folk know I’m no contact, so nobody lets them near me, and folk truly see who they are” I know there’s always folk online who say “airing out drama is tacky” but I don’t see why I should’ve ever had to stay silent and endure that, plus it was one of the most freeing experiences I had and was very liberating, like a weight lifted off you!

I’d be noping out. The adoption/foster system needs to be better. I feel like the government should start keeping DNA of kids on a list and connect siblings. Like, you give a baby up, it’s dna is connected to their file. And if you have another and whether or not you keep the baby the file gets updated with sex and birth year. When they’re teens they can access that information. When they’re adults they can tic a box that says if they’re okay with being contacted. Then adopted kids know they have a brother who was born in 1982 and can go, hey you were born the same year as my brother I’d rather not date without a dna test.

So this is called Genetic Sexual Attraction, it’s where people who are biological relatives are attracted to each other such as father/daughter and brother/sister, where person X has been adopted at a young age and meets relative Y and they are attracted to each other, not knowing they are in fact related. “psychologists theorize that the supposed phenomenon of attraction to biological relatives separated at a young age occurs because the separation forecloses the Westermarck effect, which normally desensitizes biologically related persons to later sexual attraction” “visceral erotic feeling an individual has in reaction to a new contact with a relative where there was no contact between the two while one of the individuals was growing up.” It’s actually a topic that has not gotten as much research as it needs, like this is a topic that needs proper research and time put into it with psychologists and sociologists, without shame to the individuals involved. Obviously this is a taboo subject and has a lot of shame attached too it which hinders more information being learned in the name of human behavioural science. That’s all regardless of my own feelings (because am social scientist, psychology and sociology), my own feelings would be to strongly advise to either pretend this never happened and NEVER have children, or the healthier option would be to split. They don’t need to tell anyone, I’m trying not to judge but they are choosing to stay together and I don’t know how long they can actually maintain the relationship in the long run or are really stubborn, but at the very least do NOT have children. Should anyone find out these two adopted individuals are biologically related and they have children, the stigma is really hard for that child born of incest. I come from the Scottish Highlands and spent a large amount of my childhood in a fairly small (less than 7,000 people) fishing town and one boy Liam in my high school was heavily bullied because his parents were actually brother/sister, he grew up with a LOT of rage and behavioural problems, was shunned by almost every adult in our town, ignored by teachers, being constantly arrested. As an adult Liam couldn’t escape this heavy stigma when none of it was his fault and he turned to alcohol, where he’s been on/off homeless and struggling with addiction his whole life. So if the OP happens to read YT comments, I’m not judging because am social scientist and keeping an open mind to your situation, but please do NOT have children!

They were not planning to have children anyway but why do you think they should split up, they are doing great together. @@Ifliebecause if anyone were to find out somehow their lives would never be the same, it would be a stigma that doesn’t leave them, hence I said breaking up would be healthier. I mentioned a boy I knew growing up called Liam so I would hope my point came across regarding the heavy stigma he’s lived with his entire life, despite none of this being his fault. And whilst I am aware they said they’re not planning on having children, accidents can happen and people change their minds, one of them may have always wanted to start a family but now feels they can’t which can lead to resentment. This is an extremely common wish for adults who’ve come from the care system, that they desperately want to build a family of their own, so whilst they may say “we’re not having children” they might end up changing their minds, resenting the other, an accident could happen. If they truly mean to stay child free then they both need to take more permanent measures to ensure they cannot conceive at all. And the strain of having this huge secret with nobody to talk with about it, no support system for this, that can lead to a lot of stress. So whilst they’re “doing great” right now, that can quickly change. It’s another thing that can harbour resentment or make them feel trapped. Hence I said splitting would be the healthier option.
@Iflie
@Iflie Жыл бұрын
@@ZombieSazza Splitting up may be far more damaging because they have a long standing very good relationship. It can ruin the rest of their lives because they would always have that one that was perfect that got away, And on top of that a sibling they cannot see. I think people are actually more understanding, many couples that find out they are related get a lot of support too. Even if they have kids. It's not that hard to take plan B when you do end up with an accident or do a very early abortion which is also just pills. Or they can do a genetic test to see if the child is healthy. Or just buy some sperm. After this many years together I think the not having kids was also well established before they even knew they were related. So I have no reason to doubt them on that.

If you are adopted or don't know your parentage, you need to do some research into your biological family so you don't accidentally fall into this situation (especially if the person you're dating also doesn't know their heritage too). If I were in this situation I would want to break up.

If the siblings did accidentally have kids, their kids and kids' kids *would* have increased risk of genetic abnormalities. Some diseases happen only if a bad gene comes from both parents, so if the parents are siblings, yikes. Charles V of Spain came from a long line of cousins marrying cousins, and his lower jaw was so deformed he couldn't fully close his mouth or chew his food right. So, yeah, there's that.
@GoldenLeafsMovies
@GoldenLeafsMovies Жыл бұрын
Assuming they're not the product of incest, I wonder what the percentage of genetic abnormalities on their kids would be, I know it increases the more it happens but I wonder what the initial percent is. Apparently cousin marriage is very common in the eastern world, or at least not a taboo so I assume the risk is not high. But I wonder how much that increases if it's a direct relative (brother/sister) instead of something a little more far (cousin).

I'm one of those. Yeah, as far as they are concerned they were complete strangers. I don't see why it isn't possible to fall in love in that situation. To find later that you are biological siblings means just one thing: offspring is off the table. If you can handle that and there is no other family involved to make things 'awkward', I don't see why such a relationship should be looked down on. 'It is icky' is the worst argument for anything. Remember that lgbt were, and still are, considered 'icky' by many. There is a reason why we call that bigotry. If it doesn't hurt anyone, I don't see a reason to interfere.

Story 1: Have the guy put samples on ice then get a vasectomy and get a check to make sure everything stays that way a couple times a year. That way they wont be able to have kids and if the day ever comes that one of them/both wants bio kids they can look into getting a donor/surrogate and having kids who biologically are cousins but raised as siblings. Do that and though it seems weird I'd have no problems with the relationship, as things stand the risk of accidental pregnancy is a bit too much. A kid born like that would be genetically more prone to illness and even if it caused no problems, it wouldn't be fair.
@valgardener7656
@valgardener7656 Жыл бұрын
But that child will still be a child of incestuous parents. If the truth ever gets out, do you think the shame and disgust will be any less because they tell the kid "But your dad/uncle used a surrogate instead of impregnating your mom/aunt directly"? On his way out in the world he meets and kills his real father (who abandoned him as a baby to avoid the fate his baby was foretold) . He then marries the widow of the man he killed, not knowing it is his real mother. He probably thought he avoided his terrible fate beeing far away from his (adoptive) family. Oedipus was innocent and just wanted the best for his family. If oedipus father had not abandoned him as a baby this probaby would not have happened.

1) actually is not weird that they found each other atractive, we tend to look for ourselves in other people and I think is more common than we might espect that two people who didnt knew were closley related find eachother and start a relationship, at least i've heard it a lot. at the end we are wired to do that since ussually you can find more genetic similarities between long term couples than they have with the rest of random people, but also our brain blocks siblings and parents from having atraction so we are not too closely related, it is this way so our children have as much as our genes as posible without being closeley related enough to cause genetic problems for the offspring. now luckly op and her partner did not want children so they can freely follow their animal brain that made them fall for eachother.
