@@johnjohn37371 I would wager it's 90 acres that he probably has to pay property tax on. Just because you own land and a home doesn't mean you get to stop paying on it. The government finds a way to get money from you, unless you're drawing government benefits. Those aren't taxed, because it literally IS tax money that people already paid in, but they'll still get you with inflation which is the hidden tax on everyone that affects grocery prices etc, and makes your money worth less.

This song is more folk than country. Easy to miss the difference if you don't listen to the genres much. This guy is a real one, too. He made a post about how he's been flooded with offers from record labels and turned down an $8 million deal because he doesn't want tour buses or jets or to play sold-out stadiums. He wrote this music to help him cope with his mental issues and addiction and that's all. He's played a couple of gigs in NC and they've been huge crowds. He's a humble guy, that's for sure.

I tear up every time I hear this song. I use to work 70hrs a week for years on end, hardly seeing my wife and 3 kids. I finally made it out of warehouse/factory work into IT. It hurts knowing good people are still struggling and not everyone has the opportunities I do. We need to stop being divisive towards each other and focus on the biggest problem that most of todays problems stem from, the political and financial elite. The whole world is enslaved by these corporations and politicians. Whether its the slavery of the Kongo mining cobalt or the more comfortable slavery of the American middle and lower class. We are all being taken advantage of.

I agree with all of your comments except your feelings on this song, how can you not see it does exactly what you claim you want to stop seeing in this world?? It kicks down on poor people, it promotes the baseless claim that all liberals are pedophiles, how is that not divisive or a political hand grenade? Why do you think one party glommed onto the song so quickly and tried to make it their anthem. So much so, Oliver himself condemned them for using it at the debates the other night. If it's truly a song about the working class, it shouldn't kick down on poor folks from the working class, it should promote unity, hell, maybe even unions. Here's a an appropriate, respectful response to this song, in the form of Irish Folk music....kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHS5q2ponrmZfMUsi=PpW4I-lwZvck4WB1

this song has gone pretty global because it's just so relatable to so many people. this is what old school blue grass used to be. when music had meaning and a message. no flashy lights, no gogo dancers. just a man singing his heart out for something he believes. and in that 3 min song he is unifying millions of people. dude man turned down a 8 mil dollar contract. and is travelling around atm going to local areas and farmers markets and people have been traveling otr to see him in person. it's a pretty inspiring thing going on right now.

Theres just something that seperates this song from the rest. He tells the facts, doesn't sugar coat anything, says what everyone else is thinking, yet his delivery is soulful, and you can actually feel his emotions thru the music. And the fact that hes turned down record deals just shows hes really about just sending and spreading the message with no other intentions other than to bring people together. And the fact him and his guitar can bring people together with one simple message is a lost art in music these days. Its all manufactured, cookie cutter tracks. We need more music like this in the world today. Im not even a country fan, but whenever i see this video pop up, i always give it a watch, such an amazing song!

For those that dont know, the type of guitar Oliver is playing is called a Dobro. It is kind of like combining a acustic guitar with a banjo. My grandfather played one, as well as a steel guitar, they looked like a table top guitar with foot pedals and a metal slider that was used to get that 'twang' reverb in older country songs. I miss him terribly, and I know this song would have brought a tear to his eye. He was NOT a religious man, he used to say "I leave that saving our soul stuff to the missus, but good God I hate politicians! They dont give a $#!T about us until its time to vote!" Oliver is spitting straight truth here. The rich men north of Richmond do NOT care about us, that is why they constantly increase the cost of goods, move jobs away, and refuse to raise wages....all in the name of profit, damn the consequences.

Yes!! 🇺🇸💸🙌🏼 I live on an Indiana farm surrounded by popcorn and soybean fields. I’m a country music fan, always have been, but I’ll listen to anything if it grabs my attention. This isn’t a country song though- it’s a song for our country. I’ve never heard something so meaningful, anything so powerful or anyone pour their heart and soul out like this man has. This video is an actual blue collar worker who shows his real, raw emotions and he’s fed up. He’s done with the bullshit that we all see but no one has the balls to say. I’ve dealt with my fair share of depression/anxiety and other issues so I can completely relate to his emotional suffering. Turning down an initial $8M in offers from record labels, he just wants to convey his message- he is spittin facts and this… THIS is “woke” talk, an actual great awakening. He opens his small town performances with verses from the Bible, everyone is listening and it’s such a crazy, beautiful thing. He’s the exact light that this dark world needs and it holds a glimmer of hope. I pray that this changes us in a positive way and helps us ALL come together as one; no matter your ethnicity, religion, social status, age, gender- the list goes on. The man has such amazing vocals, what a damn powerful 3 minutes. Preach it brother. ❤️‍🩹🤝🏻

That little line has a lot of people of any race saying hell yeah! he's just like me. He seems to be the real deal scoffing at record label contracts and trying to make it off Spotify, You Tube and social media which is a considerable sum. God bless him for waking up so many people to the fact that there is no reason for us to hate and disrespect each other, we need to channel our hate to the RMNR.

His interview with Joe Rogan speaks to how down to earth and reasonable of a man he is. Music heals like nothing else in this world, and he used it as a vehicle for his own transformation. Country has a few different sub genres associated within it. We have Nashville pop country (Morgan wallen), traditional country (Chris Stapleton), and Appalachian country (Tyler Childers and Oliver Anthony) My personal favorite is Appalachian country because it still feels unadulterated and free from corporate control and pressure. Obviously a lot more nuance but this is the 50,000 ft overview.

I love the fact that he is doing all of this without selling his song to some greedy music industry producer! He didn't sell his soul or his music to make money! He really isn't out to make money. He just has a message... whether you like it or not! That is what makes him that much more beautiful and pure! Just a man and his dobro and a microphone and recording in his backyard and has a message for all of us! THAT'S REAL!!!

Please go down the Oliver Anthony rabbit hole. Its not too deep but his songs are. He only has a few others. I suggest to do the following: I've Got to Get Sober, Ain't Got a Dollar, Virginia, Feeling Purdy Good, Doggonit, I Want to go Home, and Rich Man's Gold. Until he outs out more...this is all he has. Most have a video to go along with it. Very organic videos.

I'm not a country fan either. As a matter of fact I usually hate it. But I find myself listening to this song on repeat not because it suits my musical tastes, but because he's saying what I've been thinking for 3 years. The government has been showing us for decades that they don't give a crap about us. They do what lines their wallets with gold and gives them what they want regardless of who it hurts.

I am also not a huge fan of country or acapella because most of the time no matter how amazing the acapella Harmony is our it just sounds like novelly. But I would highly highly recommend you check out home Free. The starter song for everyone seems to be a man of constant sorrow. It is 100% a country song and it is entirely acapello but it will blow your mind. Ninety-eight percent of the stuff by this group is insanely good. Anyone who react to them also seems to see a huge increase in viewers is well and that certainly doesn't hurt.

It’s amazing this dude debuted at #1 on the. Billboard Hot 100 with no record deal and no chart history. For me as a Virginian it’s extra cool because not only is he a Virginian, but he’s from Farmville, which is where my Alma Mater, Longwood University, is. I’ve been working my way through his catalog on iTunes and while I’m not sure they’re all bangers (and not all so universal) he’s got lots of talent and he’s just written the great anthem of our time. And that’s badass.
